John Morris has gone well at the Sharks under difficult circumstances. He also had a lot of involvement in the very successful pathways at the Sharks. Listen to him at his press conferences and he communicates well and has some history at WTs under Sheens.

I quite like John, his involvement in the pathways at Cronulla is highly respected.

He has done well with a very out of whack roster. Big name players on big $$ who are regularly out injured long term.

Agreed

Unfortunately Morris isn't anywhere experienced enough to dig the Tigers out here. Not saying he's a bad coach, but you need someone with a track record of turning a team around, otherwise you end up in the same boat again.

So your solution, if a coach can’t improve the side’s ladder position after an average first season, is to punt the coach in the third season?

Pretty much. It's quite obvious we're heading backwards, not forwards. There has been no progress, no improvement. He can't get us competing.

Haha good luck to the next bloke then. He gets 1 year's grace to take over from Madge, 1 legitimate year where he is measured, gets cut start of the third year if not surpassing the 2nd year inside 5 rounds.

You do recall of course, last time we course-corrected the coach in the first few rounds of his third year, all our best players left?

Do you really think he's a drawcard as a coach? We haven't really made any big signings since he's arrived - I don't think replacing him would harm our recruitment in any way. Additionally, objectively looking at our performances do you think we are heading in the right direction on the field? If not, what is the catalyst to turn it around? It appears to me as though things are getting worse and he has no answers to any of the questions.

We are in a lot of trouble if we can't make this work with Madge, what coach of any standing or with any ambition is going to come here if we sack Madge?

I don't rate him as high as others. I think the game has evolved and I don't believe he's evolved with it. I hope i'm wrong but I can't see this ending well.

I have had concerns about Madge for a long time, I think he has a style he likes to play and expects his squad to adapt to that style and is unable to adapt his style to suit the squad. I think the new rules have made his style less effective as well.

The problem is we have a history of turning over coaches and having coaches come here to see their career die, so we need to put the support in around Madge to make this work as we will not attract a quality coach and will be left gambling on another rookie and we can't afford to gamble.

What's wrong with expecting highly paid players to adapt to the coaches play book, nearly all knew this before they signed?

Because sometimes the players are not capable of playing in that style or playbook, sometimes the game moves past that style. Especially when the game is going through a great deal of change.

There hasn't been much change in the game recently has there?

I take your point, but both he and Hartigan signed a lot of these blokes, did no one including the players do any research on who we signed?

I actually think the bigger point is my last line about the change in the game and I question Madge's style under the new rules.

You may well be right, but that first half had nothing to do with anything except lack of ticker, enthusiasm and effort.

No. Morris is his own man but having played under Sheens he would no doubt be influenced by having been coached by one of the greats.

From a purely financial standpoint we can't afford to sack Madge with over 2 years left on his current contract. What we need right now is a confidence boosting next game miracle win over the Bunnies!

We did have a coach with a proven record of turning teams around but he decided to cut ties after 1 season to go coach his son

Bennett, Sheens, Gould, Cleary, Bellamy are good communicators and man managers. I include Morris in this group as well. Communication and man management are so underrated with coaching.

People management is the no.1 required skill for a coach IMHO.

Every year when the tigers pull out these performances the coach gets blamed, i for one don’t think it’s the coaches fault it’s something in the tigers system that the players tune out these performances every year doesn’t matter who is coach or who is playing for our side, it’s just consistently average performances every year with 1 or 2 good performances, it’s like every player that pulls on the tigers jersey states they want to make the finals but then look like they couldn’t give a hoot if they make it or not

It's not his fault; clearly there is a pattern there, but it's his responsibility to change it.

I love Gould comment about putting top 5 coaches in bottom teams, hello Cleary was at the tigers and made us worse !!
