Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

End of the day if we sack Madge now we end up taking a gamble on a new coach. They'll either be a coach others clubs didn't want, or an unproven assistant coach. The unproven coach might work out or we might get screwed again right as we've finally opened our salary cap up

Would also make it difficult to sign big name players unless we sign a coach who's already popular amongst the playing community but don't see any of those coaches joining us

This is the last I will say about this.

Just had the source confirm that Madge has lost the senior players. They wouldn't verify a specific incident, but pretty sure it's referring to Tamou -unfortunately things aren't looking pretty.

I'm not stirring garbage. I wouldn't say it if I wasn't 100% sure on my source.

the rumour going round is Tamou confronted Madge in dressing room at half time about how wrong the game plan was and they had a blow up, hence why Tamou didnt play any of the 2nd half

Tick tock on the Madge clock *if correct*

Absolutely ridiculous if true.

Do any of you honestly believe its Madge's game plan for

* Slow line Speed,
* Pedestrian defence,
* Zero Scramble,
* No repeat sets,
* Misplaced bombs, perhaps there was an instruction to reduce offloads.

Lets face it OUR Tigers have been the Easy beats for the largest part of 20 years.

We are soft and not a club that many players would aspire to join unless they look for easy money and plenty of holidays.

**I am sick of the club that i love as much as life itself being ridiculed.**

We need this coach with a hard work and discipline first approach, it is our only way out of this mess.

No doubt - hard work is key, as is discipline. The coach has that approach, but unfortunately the players aren't responding. The question is why? who knows.

I love the club too - I want it to work out, just flagging I think it's a tough road ahead.

This mentality isnt a WTs issue only.

Tbf we haven't made one big name signing since he's arrived, even though we've certainly tried.

Well then sack those 'senior' players. Get them out! Or they will just poison the attitude of our promising youngsters like Laurie and Stefano. In a handful of games those two have showed more heart than our older players ever have!

Bennett, Sheens, Gould, Cleary, Bellamy are good communicators and man managers. I include Morris in this group as well. Communication and man management are so underrated with coaching.

How do we know Madge is not good in these areas?

I'll comment on Morris. The players want to play for him. Even when down on the score board or down on players the Sharks perform. I love that in their team. Morris has been instrumental in their successful junior dev. I think we need to get him at WTs in some capacity.

To those senior players. I don't care if you disagree with Madge. You are not the coach, just do what you are told you overpaid prima donnas. And if you don't like it go to a different club, or get a real job on an average wage. You have disgraced the memory of Tommy with your attitude yesterday. At least Madge cared!! I am still fuming just as much as yesterday.

We haven't made one in the last 10 odd years and one of the big issues is constantly changing coaches. Another is players don't want the mountain of pressure of being a marquee signing here/our spine changes every year and a half

We're gonna have to do a Canberra and break the cycle by thinking outside the box and they're certainly trying that

This is where good, strong management comes into play and sort out any divide. This is where the club lacks most.

Perhaps what we're seeing here is that a hard work and a no-nonsense approach is too simple. There has to be purpose behind it other than 'hard work will turn around our team'. Hard work alone will not. Tactics, strategy and utilising your players strengths will. I think Maguire's attitude is right but I have serious questions about his coaching.

We can rag on Matterson, Aloiai all we want. They didn't really have a good reason to leave but chose to based on the coach. Not a good sign. Bring Morris in as assistant to apply pressure.

if anyone thought 2021 was going to be a successful season for us, they were dreaming. Our pack for the most part is quite young which will lead to inconsistency. We don't have a middle with the leg speed and ball playing that can take advantage of the new rules. Our backline consists of players known to be rocks and diamonds their whole career. Our spine has played very few games together. In fact our fullback and hooker have barely played any first grade, the 6 has played very little in the halves and our halfback has been much maligned his whole career. Then there is the mismanaged cap that sees our highest paid player a bench utility and possibly our next highest paid a reserve grade forward.
Yet, we are heading in the right direction. We have unearthed a great young front rower in Utoikamanu. Luciano Leilua has shown he has more talent than almost any other backrower in the comp. Blore evidently had a great preseason before injury robbed him of his chance to impress. These guys can be the foundation of a great pack in a couple years, but they are not there yet.
Liddle has looked solid and there is evidently a clear development plan that will see Simpkin be a regular inclusion by season's end. Our new rookie fullback has been outstanding, though there are still areas of his game he needs to vastly improve. Our 6 looks better with every game in the position whilst our maligned halfback is leading the competition in try assists after 5 weeks, despite the team as whole not performing to well on the field. Again this spine will be better in a couple years with the inexperienced younger players given time to develop their individual games as well as the spine as whole getting time together.
Our backline is still rocks and diamonds and we still don't have the 'small ball' lock option but this is what the development and recruitment team is for. And soon enough we will get cap space cleared from past mistakes being off the books they should be in a position to recruit in the areas we need.

So about the coach. It was his vision that has put together this solid foundation for the future. Let him see out his contract and give him the chance to do something with it. The alternative is bringing in a new coach who will have his own vision for the future tear down the existing foundation, instill a new one and then also be moved on before he has time to get to where he is building.

This does not mean im happy about the performance yesterday. It just means step back and see the bigger picture. There was a lot of (misguided) confidence on this forum heading into this season. It shouldn't dissipate so quickly. At least let the season play out before this type of carry on.

None of the business of these "senior players" to approve or disapprove of the coach. These blokes really need to be identified and then punted otherwise their attitude will simply poison our young guys.

Bomber is a good coach, a top bloke and a former Wests Tiger. Be great to have him back in some capacity.
