Players Starting To Turn On Michael Maguire After Post-Match
FOX LEAGUE

Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire is facing an uphill battle to keep his job at the club.

Brent Read and Michael Chammas revealed on the Triple M Saturday Scrum, players at the club are unhappy with comments Maguire made post-match following the side's loss to the Rabbitohs.

Sack the bloody players for once, not the coach. Maybe then the club will head in the right direction

We did. Brought in a load a new players (Stef, Tamou, Doueihi, Joe O, Laurie, Maumalo, JTJ, BJ) and then went further backwards.
We have bought in new players as I mentioned above but they may be the wrong players

Yes we have brought in new players but they maybe the wrong ones. And we still have some players that have been here since day dot that are still the same but think they are better than they are.

We're in a fight for the future of this club.

Are we gonna buckle to media speculation and weak player attitudes or stick with Madge, Hartigan and soon Sheens..

This is gonna take a little more time.

Im sick of the failure of the last 15+ years

Sheens and Hartigan will still be here. Maguire should not.

What’s so great about Hartigan? Isn’t he in charge of recruitment? Awesome job he’s doing, sitting and watching the club that will collect the spoon this year sign big name after big name, while he signs bums from the ESL. And re-signs young players that may amount to something in 3-5 years.

Junior recruitment and I dare say he does his best to sign first rate talent.

Nofa hasn’t done anything to make me change my opinion, still think he was worth 2yrs at $320k.
I doubt Hartigan would have signed him for 4yrs at $525k.

Some home truth comments from Chammas.

Interesting take have a read through the thread if you have Twitter

https://twitter.com/michaelchammas/status/1413807067329011722?s=21

What experience does Michael Chammas have in coaching a FG NRL side that would make anyone take notice. His job is to attract attention in the only way he knows how -through controversy. If the club sacks Maguire he will come after the club and their years of failure and inability to stick to coaches and support them to get the job done etc etc There is a reason Wayne Bennett answers them with one word answers and disdain - they are parasites. They feed off the game and give nothing in return.

Its easy to put a whole profession in the one basket.

Some of his reasoning is back by fact tho

Do wests tigers keep doing what’s failed for them the past few season?

Can madge coach a team outside the 8 and as bad as us? So far it’s a no.

I love Madge and will be disappointed if we part ways...really wanted him to bring us out of the hole but maybe we are just to too weak atm for his style...I reallly think we need to go for a coach with a great reputation and who players love...my two ideal options would be Wayne or filter...both would help us with attracting the right players

NOOOOOO to both

ciraldo or Flanagan?

Fittler and Bennett

Tbh I can’t really see any other coach changing this team besides tho two, due to their ability to get stars in the squad. Truth is we are a weak team...Madge is a good coach with an underperforming roster...imo no coach can get this team into the the top...so either stick with Madge and co and try and rebuild culture from the bottom down or get a high profile coach like Freddy or Wayne to attract top tier talent

Fittler is a dunce who does well at origin level due to the quality of players and it being more about motivation.

Wayne is not a rebuild coach and doesn't care about how he leaves a side when he finishes up. In fact I believe he likes them to crash and burn after he leaves.

They are the worst type of coaches for this club.

So who is the right coach to take us out of our misery?

Madge going nowhere.

The club is in the verge of sustained success.

Reworked roster based on youth.
Salary cap relief
Pathways investment
Tom Sheens
Reserve team performing well.

There not gonna dump a tough coach for a nobody or rookie now.

TWO SIDES TO MAGUIRE FIRE

For a man with such a tough and aggressive exterior, there is a softer and more emotional side to Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire that we’re about to see.

A new documentary on Fox Sports shows he’s not all about kicking over dressing room chairs and roasting his players after frustrating losses.

You’ll get to see it from Monday, July 19, when Fox League launches Wild Wests – Tales from Tiger Town in a four-part documentary. It’s interesting because Maguire’s sometimes explosive antics and reputation as a tough, over-the-top taskmaster are often seen as a reason why the Wests Tigers struggle to snare big-name players.

Viewers will get never-before-seen, raw and unfiltered access to the highs and lows of a season that has challenged players, staff, and fans both on and off the field.

All up, Fox League did more than 500 hours of filming.

In the first episode, Maguire is seen almost breaking down in the dressing sheds after a 36-22 loss to the Parramatta Eels.

“I just want to say what you guys are building is right,” Maguire says.

“You had that team on the f…ing rack, ready to be beaten. And they’re a top-four team.

“We’re all hurting, I understand that.

“But what you’ve got to understand here is that … (long pause)

“I keep going back to … (long pause) f…ing hell, you’ve got me, you blokes.

“I just saw the effort out there is what we’re about as a team. You keep putting that effort in and we’ll grow this team

“I’m a little bit emotional here because of the f…ing effort we’re putting is right and I want you to f…ing believe that.”

No idea what you're talking about, but had a crack. I think thats what you mean?

While I'm not convinced that Maguire can coach this team out of it's ongoing malady, dumping him now would be a death knell for the club.
Back to square one, again, again, again.
The arrival of sheens should shake things up a bit. See what falls out and what sticks.

I'm intrigued why you believe a 'tough coach' gets results? Clearly it is not working.

Agree with all you have mentioned but I think part of a coaches success criteria is the ability to attract talent to the club as well as develop it.

Even with all the above being successful - I am not sure if Madge will ever be able to attract marquee type players that are required for premierships.
