Madge going nowhere.

The club is in the verge of sustained success.

Reworked roster based on youth.
Salary cap relief
Pathways investment
Tom Sheens
Reserve team performing well.

There not gonna dump a tough coach for a nobody or rookie now.

Agree with all you have mentioned but I think part of a coaches success criteria is the ability to attract talent to the club as well as develop it.

Even with all the above being successful - I am not sure if Madge will ever be able to attract marquee type players that are required for premierships.

But you won’t attract them until we are successful.
No one will unless you pay overs.e.g. Titans-Fifita, Cows-Tamalolo (spelling) Dogs - new roster.

Found this quite interesting. From the old Buzzard at the Daily Telegraph.

TWO SIDES TO MAGUIRE FIRE

For a man with such a tough and aggressive exterior, there is a softer and more emotional side to Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire that we’re about to see.

A new documentary on Fox Sports shows he’s not all about kicking over dressing room chairs and roasting his players after frustrating losses.

You’ll get to see it from Monday, July 19, when Fox League launches Wild Wests – Tales from Tiger Town in a four-part documentary. It’s interesting because Maguire’s sometimes explosive antics and reputation as a tough, over-the-top taskmaster are often seen as a reason why the Wests Tigers struggle to snare big-name players.

Viewers will get never-before-seen, raw and unfiltered access to the highs and lows of a season that has challenged players, staff, and fans both on and off the field.

All up, Fox League did more than 500 hours of filming.

In the first episode, Maguire is seen almost breaking down in the dressing sheds after a 36-22 loss to the Parramatta Eels.

“I just want to say what you guys are building is right,” Maguire says.

“You had that team on the f…ing rack, ready to be beaten. And they’re a top-four team.

“We’re all hurting, I understand that.

“But what you’ve got to understand here is that … (long pause)

“I keep going back to … (long pause) f…ing hell, you’ve got me, you blokes.

“I just saw the effort out there is what we’re about as a team. You keep putting that effort in and we’ll grow this team

“I’m a little bit emotional here because of the f…ing effort we’re putting is right and I want you to f…ing believe that.”

Can u add the time stamp please for context. I got OCD...

It was taken after Tigers lost a close match to Parramatta.

I love Madge and will be disappointed if we part ways...really wanted him to bring us out of the hole but maybe we are just to too weak atm for his style...I reallly think we need to go for a coach with a great reputation and who players love...my two ideal options would be Wayne or filter...both would help us with attracting the right players

NOOOOOO to both

ciraldo or Flanagan?

Fittler and Bennett

Tbh I can’t really see any other coach changing this team besides tho two, due to their ability to get stars in the squad. Truth is we are a weak team...Madge is a good coach with an underperforming roster...imo no coach can get this team into the the top...so either stick with Madge and co and try and rebuild culture from the bottom down or get a high profile coach like Freddy or Wayne to attract top tier talent

Fittler is a dunce who does well at origin level due to the quality of players and it being more about motivation.

Wayne is not a rebuild coach and doesn't care about how he leaves a side when he finishes up. In fact I believe he likes them to crash and burn after he leaves.

They are the worst type of coaches for this club.

So who is the right coach to take us out of our misery?

That is the point, anyone with any high chance of success isn't going to come here. There are only 2 people I would consider to be highly probably to succeed here.

Yes they’d need a track record of bringing success to a bottom 8 team not many of them around.

Good point TW...but I think we tried that with Latrelle. He reportedly went elsewhere for less.

In business, you have CEOs that are adept at different aspects. Some are good are growing business, others transforming business and others stop who simply stop the bleed.

As much as I respect Madge, I think he has stopped the bleed and kind of pointed the ship in the right direction. Perhaps that's his role done (a bit like a Brian Smith or Anthony Griffin) and may need others with a different skillset to move forward.

Another that may be of interest …..

The Maroons have slumped since there big 4 retired and our blokes have come on?

I guess, what I'm saying is, it is a cyclical game, you can't stay up forever? Our turn will come.

That’s very interesting. I must have another look at that Eels game to see what transpired. I’m sure I heard Tamou say something like..”look I love Madge..there are underlying issues we need to address..and they started when we played parramatta.” Or words to that effect?

Cycles do occur and the Storm cannot be at the top forever. I think they will dip when Bellyache goes - like some players he has had at his disposal, he is a once-in-a-generation coach.

For us, we need a circuit breaker to get us out of our cycle of failure and at best mediocrity. I think its on its way with the COE, focus on youth and pathway programs but to accelerate it we need "generational" type signing either in the coaching or player ranks.

I will give you that, getting beat by 14, which most sides would not consider a close loss, is better than getting lapped by 40

I’m going with the player, I said earlier, no problem with signing a good forward, but a game breaker back is required, e.g. Turbo for Manly.

For all those who think sacking Madge will solve all our problems, must have short memories.
We said the exact same thing when Tim left (stayed too long, had nothing new to offer),Potter left (too nice a guy, not enough experience), Taylor left,(this one ,I agreed with), Cleary left (probably because he read this forum and figured he could never win) and Madge. Madge had won two Grand Finals, would toughen up our boys and we would become a real force.
The only people not being cross examined at present, are the players. Its time to tell the sensitive new age footballers in our team to bugger off.

Any coach can only do so much...but if we had some real leaders in the playing group (like a heigno or two)this wld never happen
If u look at our experienced " leaders "in recent years...Benji...Nofa..Mbye..Reynolds..Packer..what cld u possibly expect?
Thats what Tamou was brought in for,but seems hes as ineffective off the field as he is on it!
But he needs help

WT are going backwards and something needs to change. Sixteen games in and compared to last season's twenty, thus far in this one the side has regressed 15.5% defensively and 6.7% attack wise.

Nearly five extra points to now be 30 leaked and best part of a couple less scored week on week to 20.

Looking back at 2018/19 seasons and the only team now below our WT that was above them then are the donkeys.
