Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

I look at the Madge situation and for me its a bit head over heart. I actually like Madge, I think shows commitment and passion that I really admire. He genuinely cares about the club and would be sad to see him leave. Unlike JT who should never have been employed.

On the other side of the coin, I don't know if anything will really improve next year. I really don't think 12 months will make any difference , so then it becomes a 24 month plan but at the end of it, there are many questions.
Will we be able to attract the really good players we need?
Will we find our identity in terms of how we play?
Will we have the right assistant coaches to improve us?
Are there issues with key members of the coaching and playing staff?
Will we be in a better situation than we are now?

On the balance of it, even if Madge failed to make the 8 for the past 3 years but we showed resiliency, improvement and not had the blowout scores, I'd more than likely back him to stay as his vision is coming together. At this point, apart from a few small things, I just don't see the necessary success indicators, and for that reason, I think he will probably (albeit sadly) go.

I’m of the belief Pascoe has to go and Madge stay Pascoe just seems so unprofessional and strange. Madge Cleary knows how to coach at the last two clubs he has been to they have won a comp under him that doesn’t just happen by luck. The club has been a mess long before Madge got here I believe he is trying his hardest to change it but a lot of people around him are just hopeless at there jobs

Agree

Guy who posts tips thinks he’s in the know.

Don’t think he’s ever predicted anything correctly, especially with the tigers

Given who tweeted it, the opposite is more likely to happen

Sacking Maguire is a solution for creating false hope for fans around a FG team that finished where most predicted, in a competition where at least half the teams are better than them and will be again next year. While ever we remain on this pattern of attributing accountabilty on individuals instead of all stakeholders moving together to change the image of the club then can't see how the next coach has any more chance of success than the last one.

Yes I agree that any coach would struggle with our current roster, but any roster you expect to see improvement over the course of a few years and we have gone backwards. So I don’t see how you can keep the current coach.

Dean pays bulldogs teams were practically NSW cup sides and they played with more intent and structure than we do now

100% agree on that. Seems to know his way around defensive schemes. He’d have had that bulldogs side this season in a much better spot than Barrett imo

I never hold grudges lol, especially on a website where we just disagree what is the best way forward for the footy club we love.

Drawing out the review tells me that we are in talks with ciraldo and trying to get an understanding if he would take the job. It could also be madge blowing up royally about his assistant coaches being removed and having sheens on top of him. If that’s the case they could be negotiating a pay out in the background.

I think it's madge not happy.

Could be a good solution for all parties. Madge tells the media he is not going to coach having Sheens on top of him, so he quits. In the background on the quite a settlement is reached. Madge is not sacked, so his reputation is not tarnished and we get a new coach

I don't care how we get to having a new coach, as long as we get there in the next month

I think we need it sorted in two weeks max. Contracted players will be getting released and coming onto the market soon as clubs re gig their rosters for 2022 and we need to have a coach bedded down to have any chance in the market place

I do agree with that, I just don't want the club to wet their pants and keep Madge on because they couldn't wait 2 or 3 weeks to get who they wanted or needed

the other side of that coin is punting Madge without a suitable and superior replacement. What could go wrong?

Miss the 8 again?

So Madge lasts another week ...

I cannot believe its taking them this long to make a decision on Madge.. Before people say that I'm been impatient I just feel the quicker this is made the better for the club and 2022 for everyone involved. I hope we are just not holding off to see if Cameron C actually wants to come here..

Anyway at least the NFL as started so happy days
