It's not changing the coach in isolation is it? I've listed the initiatives and good outcomes that are happening now in the post below.

A new coach won't solve the issue, new assistants, Madge stays and builds with his commitment, work ethic and passion for the club. Some players have to much to say, and need to get in line with Madge's direction and culture change. But in saying all that I reckon he won't be there at the end of the week.

If the reason for the roadblock to recruitment has been identified then the Board has no other course of action than to remove it.

That roadblock is Wests Tigers I’m afraid…

Elite players don’t want to play for us..you just need to look at the players who have left for your answer

I'd be surprised if the review did not include discussions with player managers.

I would be horrified if they did speak to player managers. Its the player managers who dig a hole and throw the club in it,they only care about the themselves and getting a lucrative slice out of their clients (Players and Coaches).Player managers are a very large part of the problem and you want to get their advice.AMAZING

Player managers are apart of the NRL landscape. I'd expect Hartigan or Sheens to be having ongoing discussions in an attempt to improve our roster. Providing feedback on road blocks seems a proactive and measured approach. Why alienate a group we need? They need WTs as we have a large amount of $ to spend.

Madge couldn’t adapt to his roster and failed to see how he played with souths would not work at tigers. We don’t have same Burgess

Even in 2022, we still wont have Burgess'.

We have a hard working, old school coach where poor descissions and poor attitude wont be tolerated anymore.

I'm sick of players on good money robbing us fans.

**Our 15 year plus problem has been and still is culture.**

Look at Melb/Roosters in 2021. Thesehave high standards from the top down.

Is the Club/Board truly this stupid.

It’s easy to say look at Melbourne and the Roosters. If it were that easy to reach those standards, every club would be with them and they’d no longer by the envy of the competition.

It has been said here that Ciraldo has overseen the best defensive team in the NRL but nobody knows how he would go with inferior players. As an example, look at the Penrith Parramatta final and you wouldn't see better defence than either side put up. Now, look at the assistants at those clubs and Ciraldo did really well but Parra had David Kidwell, who was a past defence coach at the Tigers and he did equally well in that game.
BUT Kidwell was a disaster as defence coach at the Wests Tigers. My point is that any reasonable coach can do well if he has a quality roster and it is the roster that needs improving under any future or present coach before we will have any success.

Yeah very good point.
Signing Ciraldo would be an enormous risk.

Every option is a large risk.

True but the green coaches are an unacceptable risk

Believe me I have thought that for a long time.

Taking on a Ciraldo or ESL coach is a risk because their experience in NRL as a head coach, with this squad is completely unknown.

Retaining Madge is a huge risk because his experience as a head coach of the Wests Tigers, with this squad is completely known.

One risk is unknown, the other is known. ***Past performance is the best indicator of future performances.*** Which do you hitch your wagon to?

I'm not making any claim about knowing a lot about risk assessment, but as far as financial investment is concerned, one of the most commonly used disclaimers is along the lines of:

Past performance is not an indication of future performance.
OR
Please remember that past performance may not be indicative of future results.
OR
Past performance is no guarantee of future results, etc.

Don't know if that is relevant in this instance, but that is something I take into consideration when determining where I invest my hard earned.

I would hope even our board would not be dumb enough to take advice from player managers. They do not work for a clubs best interest despite the spin you put on it

Of course they work for their clients but they also need to place their clients at clubs. There is limited cap. Having an adversarial relationship with player managers seems to be counterproductive to what we're hoping to achieve.

It's not changing the coach in isolation is it? I've listed the initiatives and good outcomes that are happening now in the post below.

Hartigan has been onboard for 2 years now and if he's in charge of negotiating with player managers, he hasn't done a good job with all the signing misses we've had.

We've recruited decent juniors, but we've already seen that we've lost a number of players from that Flegg side. Jordan Hill, Mavoni Taufua, Logen Dillon, Jackson Rahme all rumoured to be gone. Time will tell if they make it to the NRL, but it's not a stretch to think they will be the new Paps, Tatola etc. that the club let go. This should have nothing to do with Madge's role.

Sheens doesn't even know what his job is yet. He's gone from leading junior pathways to reviewing the coach before he has actually arrived.

The CoE is the only thing you've listed that is guaranteed, and there is only one in Concord.

Thanks @weststigerman. That quote from Gould needs bumping!!!
What a few of us have been saying for a while, but when a legend of the game makes that statement it should carry some weight. And thank you Steve Hill!!

I would be interested to know Sheens position on this considering when he was shown the door with a much better roster than the current one departed with the jab - " players sack coaches". The irony of him being part of the fate of a coach of the same club that sacked him where the rebuild started, is almost comical considering where we are at, and that he is being heralded as the one to save us.
