My view on Madge was always he would be the coach that got rid of all the loafers and built a hardened roster where someone else would come in and recruit players to get them firing. His tactics have a use by date but for me now is not the time.

Madge is basically being done over like Dean Pay.

You think he’s definitely gone TYGA?

I hope not. It makes zero sense. Roster is a bottom half of the table squad. Changing coach is the dumbest thing I have heard in years.
I feel it’s a cop out from management and fans that don’t want to admit reality the squad is poor. Some feel changing the coach gives hope I don’t see it that way.

As others and I have said he has assembled 90% of the squad so if it’s a poor squad and he can’t get anything out of players he brought in who’s fault is it .Keeping this coach gives no hope

That’s ridiculous he’s assembled 90% of the squad. He’s trying to unravel it pretty much openly. I’m shocked it’s stayed together this long.

Since Madge has come in we have had Luciano, Blore, Utoikamanu, Harry Grant, Jake Simpkin, DaineLaurie, Ofehengaue, Douihei come in. In the reserves Tuki Simpkins, Tuilagi have also come in.

To varying degrees they are the best players in the team. They are also young and he’s building a team to last.

The one major mistake was Brooks extended after a Dally M season when we had b graders.

BJ, Jet, Tamou, Kepoa have been poor but most low cost.

The false narrative this is the squad Madge wants when Mbye, Packer and others are taking massive money off the cap is so wrong.

The problem is our best talents are young and not seasoned and can’t aim up every week. Our experienced players are loafers.

It sucks but long term rebuild is happening if weak management want to scapegoat and convince fans we are any good they either have no idea or straight out lie to fans.

And the experienced loafers that are in the side Maguire either re-signed or brought them to the club but that’s ok there low cost so will excuse him

BJ, Jet albeit cheap were mistakes as was signing Brooks to a big deal. at the time Brooks was playing well and was a junior.

Laurie, Utoikamanu, Blore, Luciano, Simpkin and juniors far outweigh. The club is battling it can’t sign anyone of more has to build from within and take time.

I think coaches are overrated with the exception of Bellamy & Bennett. It’s the club that’s the issue lack of pathways, developed youth and poor retention.

I don’t think changing the coach will change anything. Just my opinion if we do it we start again and lose the players that signed for Madge whom are better than the malcontents and we go around in circles.

coaches, players ,admin will all give the place a wide bearth...you reckon we cant attract marquee signings, see how we end up after sacking a premiership coach who has tried to cleanup a rabble that it has been for years...

Not sure how you can possibly think he’s done a good job. He’s taken a pretty ordinary team and made them
worse. He’s failed.

In your opinion, but he gave Simpkin his debut when everybody said he is far off NRL,he got Laurie here early,he moved AD to 5/8 and bought in Joe O and Stef to strenghthen the team and you say he failed because the results dont suit you...your hate for the man is overwhelming..yet you dont blame player incompetence at all...

I don’t hate him at all, but he’s done a terrible job and he deserves to get the sack. We’re 1-6, you may be happy with that but I find it unacceptable.

Exactly, he has made the squad less competitive each year, he has signed or re-signed all but MBye and Packer, he owns this mess, and should be punted

Exactly it’s as black and white for ppl to see. It’s only a matter of weeks for mine

He'll be lucky to see out the week. It would be better for WTs to be decisive and move swiftly.

If they're gonna do it they just need to do it, however I don't think changing coach suddenly fixes us. Hasn't worked the last 5 times... this club is rotten from the top down. Whole place needs a clean out not just the coach.

Big question is what does a new coach bring? Can they suddenly change our culture? I doubt it. Can they suddenly sign top players? Probably not. Unless they're a top quality coach there probably won't be much difference

Madge has always been playing the long game with developing juniors and that's showing in the success of our Flegg and Reserve grade teams. If I'm him I just start throwing as many of them into first grade as I can at this point.

**Yes we have to play the long game**. Not panic because of a poor result for season 2021. This is the way you fix things. Changing the coach now would just lead to more of the same we have had in the last 10 years.

We need to blood the juniors that is for sure. Don't know throwing as many in as possible is the way to do it, that smells of panic also. A systematic approach would be more appropriate.

How long is that game? If we have a group of Luke Brooks in lower grades that don't step up does he get a go with the next batch?

Blood them this year, no doubt. But do it a way that doesn't crush them either. There are some players in the Knock-on cup that could make the grade but they need to be carefully managed through.

What you are saying is spot on regarding blooding young players it’s much easier to do in side that are confident and playing well

If Maguire is sacked than Brooks should go with him. His eagerness to stay at the club and not show any hunger for growth shows a lack of confidence or desire. His comfortable chair should be pulled out from underneath him for his sake and ours.

I think we should give Madden a go, just to see? He has been going well in reserves.

Not looking good for him

Getting harder to call Benji a club legend. He's such a spoiled brat, you'd think a 36 year old man would have class but he's like a school girl. Gets dropped (deservedly so) and attempts to turn the playing group on the coach which is still causing issues to this day I'm sure.

Club shouldn't give him anything in the future ever again. Real club legends don't act that way, Lawrence is the best example.

The article is spot on, the Club should have listened to what was being said, not who said it.

And I know plenty of tough and skillful school girls.

Leaving aside whether Benji's reported issues with Madge last season had anything to do with our current situation, Chammas' article is well written, obviously well researched, and most likely accurate. He's one journo who's usually fair to the club and he always seems well informed about matters affecting Wests Tigers. The statistics he quotes on Madge's win ratios, both in his last year at the Rabbits and with us are really worrying. If he has in fact lost the dressing room, then we don't seem to have much choice and he has to go. Will that fix whatever's wrong? Maybe not, but doing nothing will achieve nothing.

Whoever is responsible for the roster (Hartigan or Madge) needs to have a look at themselves.

We have a million props, and absolute no decent outside backs.

Great article, just proves Madge had no man manager skills, and is still stuck in 2014, those results are horrendous, time to go I am afraid

I posted on the Forum the day Maguire had signed with WTs as a colleague still had close links to Souths and told me. What I didn't post was his reply when I asked him about what he would be like which I remember well - not the coach for WTs' style of football.

The WTs style of football hasn't got us very far for 10 years. Maybe a different style is what is needed. The ingrained "style" is hard to change, but it has to.

Not totally disagreeing with you good points about some of the players and club but I do disagree on the coach. I don’t expect a quick fix didn’t expect to even make the 8 just want to see stead improvement from players and team can you honestly say you are seeing it

I noticed that Madge got asked something in the post game press conference like “who is to blame or something like what do you need to look at”

With him replying starts with the players .. paused and also said staffing aswell..

So obviously some of the staff aren’t doing something right, which I honestly could point my finger at Lee hagipantelis or Pascoe..

Reason I say this is that they always come out of no where and talk crap and I believe they’d be the ones saying something behind the doors like “you can drop bla bla bla and bring in bla bla bla”

My thoughts

ive avoided watching it because i know itd make me mad, but if this is fair dinkum he should walk

all good coaches take full responsibility for their teams performances

Really can't argue with those win ratio figures for the last 4 years... Absolutely putrid and there is no sign anywhere of improvement

Players walking
No desperation
Leaving dirty work.to a team.mate
No direction or organisation
Looks like the players have decided
It's clear as day

Bit of speculation on my part, but maybe Madge and Hartigan aren't on the same page? Maybe they have different views on players, Madge might want to use our cap on players like Faloa and Dwz? I guess the board need to investigate what is wrong.

What concerns me is the report that Tamou and Madge had a blow up a couple of weeks ago. Need to mediate the internal problems asap.
