Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

Laurie won one series with NSW against possibly the best QLD side in the history of the game and only just lost another. Even Bellamy failed as a NSW coach against that team. I don't know if he is a good coach or not but I don't think you can base it on his time as NSW. coach.

Lets be real.. The team has improved dramatically and playing as a TEAM.

As for Panthers, just shows their lack of depth...

Okay, the team has definitely improved.

Who would you give the 3,2,1 points to? I'm going:

3 Brooks. I've been a critic for a while but I'm onside now. His kicking has improved immensely and his defence, which was never in question, is even better.

2 Garner. Has toughened right up and rarely misses, runs hard and goes the big minutes.

1 Mbye. Has really settled the attack and also defends well.

Would of thought Twal was worth 3pts, did you see his numbers?

Tck-38 top
PCM-59 top
RM-152 top
Runs-18 top

But a lot of blokes played out of there skin?

Who got MOM on the night? Would've thought for sure Twal got it he was immense!!

Twal always plays well. It's just come to be expected of him. Gould spoke very highly of him.

Yes, he’s been coached very well.

Ivan coached him well.?

MADGE WELCOMES OLD FRIEND IN TIGERS CAMP
One coach who has no trouble with a new face is the Tigers' Michael Maguire, who will welcome highly-respected veteran Tim Sheens onto his staff with open arms.

The pair go way back - Sheens handed Maguire his top-grade debut as a player way back in 1992 and the pair have always been close.

Sheens won't be a threat to Maguire - his role will be mainly in pathways and development.

The former Kangaroos coach has been working in England for several years but will forever remain a part of Tigers folklore, having delivered the club its lone premiership in such rousing style in 2005.

Sheens won't be back for nearly a month however - he has committed to coaching the 'Exiles' team that plays England in a one-off international in three weeks.

I guess you will have to find other ways to dislike him?

Daley was allowed to coach the indigenous team from memory.

No it was because he works on the BSB, which is owned by TabCorp.

The only time I to see him is when he's giving the odds for games at the end of the mat johns show.

Serious question. Who owns the Storm? I was aware they were privately owned but not sure if it was by an individual or a consortium?

Score flattered us, but for 65 minutes we were up by 6 against the panthers 2nd grade side.

Conceded 2 tries against a 12 man Warriors side.

There is some cool-aid being drunk and there will be a rude awakening.

Why do guys like you follow the club , or any club ? I don’t understand the concept of Death riding this thing you supposedly love .

It’s not cool aid drinking to see the team is clearly better . And competed , and dominated some way more fancied forward packs .

But your right I guess we all need to go back to being miserable and waiting for the apocalypse. Cause that was fun ....

Tim Sheens returning got me thinking of something.

A month or so ago when people were calling for Madge's head, and others were saying we need additional coaching staff, there was a myth doing the rounds to the effect of 'Madge doesn't want good or high profile assistants because he is paranoid about getting replaced by them'.

This is obviously rubbish, because he'd previously tried to bring Laurie Daley to the club.

Laurie isn’t a good coach.

If I had to choose between John Morris and Laurie Daley as our coach I would choose the latter.

He failed as nsw coach and hasn’t landed an NRL gig. Tells you something.

How many clubs has he applied for a coaching position with?

It seems to me that @Telltails argument is a fair bit stronger than yours Avo, as to whether Laurie Daley is a good coach or not.
Or maybe closer to the point is... your statement is pretty weak.

Daley's role was a specialist halves role while still presumably working as a radio host, similar to the roles the Johns' brothers have had.

It opens up the suggestion of cronyism.

He’s never been an NRL coach. Apart from a few games for country NSW his only coaching appointment has been for NSW where he was fired. Do you have reason to believe he’s a good coach?

Johns brothers arent/werent employed by betting company, pretty straight forward.

I'm referring to their roles as specialist halves coaches with the Eels, Roosters etc. Part time roles.
