For some reason Madge still does.

..thats because if he parts company now he will be unemployable as a NRL head coach
..and he may just believe he can turn it around??
I hope he can if he gets the opportunity...but something about leopards and changing spots

I think it's madge not happy.

What’s to be happy about? This club has destroyed his reputation. He only has one way out and that’s to somehow get us playing finals. That’s if the club doesn’t sack him, which if they do, he’s cooked. He’ll never get another head coaching role again.

I think Madge has a fine reputation in the game having brought success back to Souths. ***People always leave WT and go on to bigger and better,*** you only have to look at how many former Tigers are playing/coaching in the finals.

Ummmmmm Wayne Pearce, Terry Lamb, Michael Potter and Jason Taylor wave hello.

They’re not at our club so by definition they are somewhere bigger and better, we’re a tier above Centrelink

At the risk of sounding like the daily Telegraph, I could name a full team of former Wests Tigers players in top eight teams, including a coach and bench. They say hi.

Is Madge a player?

I respect the fact that he's not giving up.

Imagine how hard it would be to get a coach after Ivan walked away, the belting we're copping about players not wanting to join, and then another coach walks away. That would be rock bottom.

Anyone who thinks Ciraldo would risk his future career by coming here is dreaming. It will either be Flanagan or Toovey or some other drop kick. Ciraldo isn't a moron, better gigs will come in time and he will be patient.

So why don’t Flanagan or Toovey (who is completely off the radar and probably won’t ever coach again) not wait for a better gig? Are they morons?

They are definitely not the brightest bulbs in the house. Listening to Flanagan's master plan of bringing down the storm reflects this.

Could be a good solution for all parties. Madge tells the media he is not going to coach having Sheens on top of him, so he quits. In the background on the quite a settlement is reached. Madge is not sacked, so his reputation is not tarnished and we get a new coach

He’s done himself no favours either.

As it’s been mentioned over 100 times, we’ve got worse every year with this supposed great coach who’s won a comp in Australia and The UK and is the current coach of a top 3 international. Not to mention none of those accolades have helped him land a big name signing. You can blame recruitment on other parts of the organisation but at the end of the day, you are playing for the coach. I also understand our recruitment has never really been that good but it does feel like it’s at its worse ever under Maguire.

You can blame rule changes all you like too but every other good coach has adjusted to them and it’s concerning 2 years in that Madge and his coaching staff seem to have no answer for them. If this review just sacks his assistants, that’s incredibly poor considering they were picked by Madge.

I also see numerous people say “if we sack Madge we have to start again” we really don’t. All I can see is Madges work in the background with youth and bringing young players to the club when his main priority should be getting the first grade side to fire. Show me a supporter who says Madge has built anything with first grade and I’ll show you a liar. The defence is awful, the attack is just as bad, so bad that I think if you do a bit of digging, majority of our points have been scored when we’re chasing games. There’s no consistent shape or plays and there is no identity to the team. We’re not a flashy attacking team, we’re not a gritty defensive team, we are not a team. South’s fans were happy to see the back of him and manly fans are rejoicing they never got him, he is done in the NRL.

His biggest mistakes were

1. Taking on a role when our cap was in such a putrid state, full of overpaid entitled hacks just in it for the money.
2. Stating publicly he could do something with the roster.
3. Proceeding to turn us into last chance U

Honesty is the best policy Madge, Pascoe handed you a lemon.

You screw the cat, you wear the scratches

Madge married the cat and pretended to make a family and home with it!

Very good news that Sheens will be the head coach with Maguire as the figurehead coach.
Congratulations to the club. With Sheens heading the coaching I have hope again.
Well done to Maguire for accepting the demotion to figurehead. it can't be easy.
We should all now get behind Sheens and the club and move into our improving future.

Wow that’s a winning move from the club if that’s the case ,Sheens head coach .. Maguire figurehead coach ? the new position created by the review board to cover everyone’s failures .
Well I suppose it’s like 6 home grounds now the board are collecting coaches you do not want to pay one out so you employ another only at the Tigers ??

We still need to get pascoe, Lee and hartigan away from first grade recruitment.

Hartigan needs to have final say on recruitment, with a little guidance from Sheens.

And surely with guidance from Madge as well Cochise.
He is the Head Coach, so surely he gets a say in who he feels he can best work with.

Should be the other way in my opinion.

Why?

I am more talking about as a mentor, I am happy for Madge and Sheens to have input into recruitment decisions, but strongly believe the final decision should rest with Hartigan.

Genuine question. How does that work with the concept of a coach's accountability? I wouldn't want to be accountable if I didn't have final say on my team.

There are not many sports in the world where coaches have final say over the roster.

OK, agree to disagree. From previous posts I believe you are a CEO and I was for 15 years before retiring. In my role I would only accept accountability if I chose my team. You can't do it from day one because there are incumbents but, over time, I chose and shaped my team to produce the best outcomes for my organisation.

:100: agree @coivtny
It's just common sense that the coach would have the final say as to who he believes he can work with to get the best result from, for the sake of the Team.

If you want to talk about players, the VAST majority of players that leave Tigers dont go onto bigger and better. A small number have.

Maguire is trying to stamp his authority on our club but the majority of the players, the most vital part of the puzzle, are not buying into it. They're soft, have been for a decade, can't see them letting anybody come down on them with any sort of authority or tough love. They'll just turn their bellies up like they did this year.
