We have 3 players who could become Marquee players if given the right opportunity, that is definitely not our problem.

1. Laurie
6. Doueihi
9. Simpkins

Is a lock in for the next 10 years if given the right platform.

EVERYONE else needs to go, its as simple as that. From coach to players.

I’m sorry but none of our players cut it.

Nofa, Leilua, Roberts, Talau, Brooks...gone.

Tamau, Twal, Garner, L Leilua...gone.

Ofa & Blore can stay...The rest, cya later.

How sad is it that our side is a string of has beens and reserve grade quality players.

Sadly, I think I’ve seen enough of those three to say marquee player is a stretch, they’re your basic run of the mill first graders, maybe throw in Twal too.

Those 3 are good players. I am pretty sure Laurie will never be marquee. Simpkins might get to that level. Doueihi may as well but he needs to be playing in the halves.

I guess it depends on what you call marquee, to me it’s a guy on north of 700K who’s a regular contributor in rep games. Doueihi and Laurie still have a couple more steps to climb. Simpkin is still trying to prove he’s NRL material.

How many 'marquees' has Sheens signed when we won? BTW, Prince, Payton, Hodgson, Whaitura, Richards were all unwanted by their clubs!
IMHO, we need players that fill the holes we have, not necessary 'marquees'!

I would target Nicho Hynes and I would play him at fullback, shifting Laurie to 5/8 and Doueihi to the centres. Hynes seems to have that desire to get his hands on the ball as much as possible, which is what you want to see in a marquee signing.

I imagine he'll be in very high demand, but he could instantly improve our attack and help organise our defence from the back.

Agree on Hynes

Hynes
Brandon Smith
Jaydon Su'a
Plus a decent NRL winger with reasonable height and speed and can read defence

Twal is our best forward.
He stays.

The rest we can agree on.

Surprised people rate him tbh, he stunts our attack. He is slow and predictable.

Seeing teams like panthers play upsets me. They are so far ahead of us it is clear we are going no where foe the next 5 years at least. They are no in sync when attacking and defending its crazy...and we had their coach to make matters worse....

I don't mind Alex, but I have to agree, he just doesn't bend the line in attack and I know he was out with a sternum injury or something like that at the end of last year, but I think Eisenhuth stood up and had more impact while Alex was out.

I personally don't believe in buying marquees as a sure-fire strategy, unless you are an already successful club. I don't think a single player will fix a club's issues if the fundamental issues aren't fixed - whether it be coach, roster, finances, team harmony, admin etc.

Just look around at some "marquees" and whether they turned the club results around, off top of my head: Blair/Tigers = no, RTS/Warriors = no, Ponga/Knights = not really, Klemmer/Knights = no, Pearce/Knights = no, Fifita/Titans = not really, Sharks/Johnson = no, Tedesco = yes (club already successful , plus Cronk), Cotric/Dogs = no, Foran/Dogs = no, Hunt/Dragons = no, Broncos/Milford = initially yes then mostly no, Ellis/Tigers = yes, Burgess/Souths = yes (with Inglis)

I think we should start will NRL standard players and work our way up from there..

We do start with good NRL standard players....unfortunately once here they work their way down the standard ladder as well as the premiership ladder because some of them get found out their not NRL standard to start with...

Understand your point..

I think we need to get 1 for a few reasons:
It would boost morale of us poor fans
It would create revenue through marketing / memberships etc..
It would assist us in attracting other players even if not Marquee ones
It was also assist in development of our younger players as he would bring that experience with him.

Not saying it would make us a to 4 side but it has a lot of positives to it and we also have the money available. You can only have so many young talented kids (we have a heap) but need guidance.

At this point we have more or hope of unearthing another Benji or Tedesco. I thought we may have had something with Simpkin, but he’s been a big disappointment so far. Especially when you see guys like Walker and Walsh who are a year younger come in and take games by the scruff of the neck.

Did mention that Simpkin would be 18 months away

Walker and Walsh aren’t. Farah wasn’t at the same age. Usually if a player needs time, he’ll still show you glimpses. He hasn’t shown any imo.

Simpkin games against souths for a debut was very good

The love AD ,hate Brooks brigade, yet Brooks has been our best player the last 2 wks. The side has also been better with AD at centre. Laurie tries hard , but along way from a top class FB, lets wait and see. Other then that not bad.

Laurie you say is a long way from a top class fullback, just like Brooks is a long way from a top class halfback, difference is Laurie is in his first full year of NRL at fullback.
As for Doueihi, he has a bit to go to become a top level 6, and he should be playing there now to work on these things, and again, it is his first full year of playing five eighth

Well said

I can't believe that people talk up Su'a. He has been awful for souths this year, would not rate him as a significant improvement to Garner who I rate as a fringe first grader.

I'm not a hater of anyone, think I am more of a realist, but Brooks wasn't our best against Newcastle. He was good but AD was top shelf at centre that night. And Brooks was solid against the Warriors but he wasn't our best and failed to ice a couple of opportunities late that could have gotten us home. Twal was a beast vs the Warriors and was clearly our best

Problem to me is, we want marquis players but those top players want a strong club.
So it's a Catch 22. We want good (great?) players but have no players, no form or a winning culture to attract them.

He stays.

The rest we can agree on.

Twal is not our best forward. He's our fittest forward.

He also needs to become a bench player so we can mix up our props more. Having two static work horses to start and them only impact players on the bench is unbalanced and wastes interchanges.

Start Mikaele and Tamou, drop Twal to the bench. Bring him on after 20 mins and have him play out the rest of the game. He gets a breather at half time and we can rotate other spots with impact players. It's not rocket science. Although it is interesting that suddenly Twal has offloaded more in the last month than in the rest of his career combined.

I get youTB, but it,s only this year that we have had a decent forward pack, and, it,s only the last 2wks that they have performed. Is it just a coincidence that Brooks has performed well in the last 2 wks? I will say it to the cows come home, the spine only looks good behind a dominant forward pack, and only looks great with with a good backline as well. Souths halves and hooker looked bad last week, because they were dominated in both areas.
If people studied more carefully, you would see this the case in all games. I hope Brooks leaves, put Doeihie in the halves, and he would get the blowtorch. Plus who would do the tackling, because without him we would have conceded far more tries.
