Martin Taupau - Discussion Thread

Firstly The interchange isn't going to drop to 6 :roll that would be way overkill. 2ndly soliola, fensom and papalii can all play 80 minutes WITH EASE. Lastly the raiders want taupau to play prop not 2nd row…. You clearly know nothing at all about NRL because you are completely and utterly way off the mark...

They could be offloading Papalii?

Doubt it, he's an Aus and Qld rep and one of the best 2nd rowers in the comp… why on earth would they want to offload him?
They need a big name prop or two for 2016 and have been clearing the decks for a big signings for a while now.

The idea of Taupau and Papalii in the same team is scary. Add the young big boppers, Boyd and Vaughan, as well FPN into the mix and it's even more scarier! Yeah they are certainly building towards something good, that's for sure. It's been quite a long time since they were a serious threat to take out a Premiership, so good luck to them.

Add to that one of the best hookers in the comp, Hodgson the Pom. A halves pairing of Austin and Sezer and a backline of wighton, lee, croker, Leilua and Waqa/rapana and they are definitely a force.

Obviously a raiders fan taking the piss. Enjoy Ricky as your coach for the next 10 years

Hearing 2016, Joel Edwards to tigers was some sort of compensation, yes not a superstar signing but a very handy player to have in the team.

My brother spoke to Marty at the WT grand final luncheon and asked him what his plans were - Marty told him he was playing for the Tigers in 2016 and looking at what was on offer after that.

Doubt Marty would have revealed too much to just any bloke off the street. Kind of standard answer you'd expect.

Yeah it's soooo s*** that's why there's been rumours for weeks about taupau leaving. Geez some people are bloody dumb….

So others are dumb because they don’t accept rumours as fact…OK then

You mention clearing the deck for this, what clearing the decks?

Two aging players, Shillington and Tilse are gone, Edwards and Cornish it is obvious Sticky doesn’t rate either of them and neither of them were on massive money, the Raiders may even be paying part of Edwards contract, the rest are low contract players who need to be replaced

On the other side they have signed Sezer on big $$$, and upgraded Austin, these two alone would already take up a big chunk of the money saved, and they have also signed Whitehead from the UK, then there is Clydsdale though the Knights are likely paying part of his salary, but not all.

The other off contract players aren’t going to save the Raiders much more

Hold the phone Batfriends…..

FB Manly Sea Eagles page report they have signed Taupau on a 1.9mill 3 year deal it's why they let Sene-Lafeo go to the Sharks....I think he has every Club covered now

I hear Camden Rams picked Marty up for 40k per year over 2 years, plus a slab of beer per game.

I know someone high up at the Camden Rams so nerny-nerny-nerny-nerr…... :roll

Manly Sea Eagles on verge of signing Marty Taupau from Wests Tigers
in 2 hours
Phil RothfieldThe Sunday Telegraph

MANLY are on the verge of snaring explosive forward Marty Taupau from the Wests Tigers.

The Kiwi international is under contract for another year but is seeking a release.

A number of rival clubs are aware of the situation and are chasing the game-breaking forward for 2016 and beyond.

New Sea Eagles coach Trent Barrett is a clear frontrunner to secure his services to play alongside fellow Kiwis Louis Brown and Steve Matai.

His arrival would be a massive boost to Manly’s finals campaign in a forward pack that has already been beefed up with the signing of Maroons State of Origin forward Nate Myles.

Rumours that Taupau wants out from the Wests Tigers have been around for several weeks.

He is one of a number of players unhappy about the treatment of club legend Robbie Farah.

There has also been speculation Taupau would attempt to do a Jarryd Hayne and try to make it in the NFL. But we’re told NRL is still his preferred option.

His departure will put further pressure on embattled coach Jason Taylor who will struggle to convince a player who doesn’t want to be there to stay.

There is talk of a swap deal between the Tigers and the Sea Eagles involving veteran hooker Matt Ballin. The 31-year-old hooker has two years left at Brookvale but has been granted permission to look elsewhere.

After missing the finals last year, the Sea Eagles are rated a $15 chance in the first betting market issued by the TAB for 2016.

The price would shorten to around $12 if Taupau signs. The Wests Tigers are a $34 chance.

No incorrect.

He was given permission to become a free agent. From his lips!

All this negative PR deliberately being stirred up by the media against Wests Tigers is real beat-up. Phil Rothfield, a prime mover in this area, was in direct contrast to his current disparagement of Wests Tigers, very quiet during the Cronulla drug scandal.

Wow Taupau for Ballin - that's an even swap :unamused: Old Slothfield loves sticking the boot in us doesn't he?

Hmm, Manly makes a hell of a lot more sense than Canberra. Still a shame if we lose Taupau though.

If marty leaves he is a hypocrite, he would be stupid to go imo. 'Marty Kapow' is the face of WT, I don't think he would stand out as much elsewhere and his brand would take a hit.

If the club can punt players as they see fit, why can't players leave if they feel the club is not a fit anymore?

They can, I just think that it would be a mistake for him.

If it is over the coaching/treatment of farah as reported I think the coach will probably be gone by mid season anyway if not by end of season

I assume he means Lewis Brown. And he wants us to take him seriously…
