Martin Taupau - Discussion Thread

heard the same, PK said that there was strong 'mail' last sunday that tapau was to going sowfs.has also asked for a release to move on
hope they are wrong, the tigers cannot afford to let him go as well.
if he goes as well what sort of team will we have ?

Honestly don't want this turning into a Robbie thing but you could visually see his support for Robbie at training and at the game against the Warriors when Robbie came off.

Why should he show any level of loyalty when his bosses clearly aren't, especially considering he isn't a junior and has no sense of attachment to the club.

This would be so so soooooo destabilising on and off the field..

Let him go. If he doesn't wanna be here, sayonara. The culture among the players is a disease, almost inoperable if this is true. Everyone blames big bad JT, but forget this playing roster has a history of dogging coaches. It just strengthens my belief even more that the board are doing the right thing and removing those who think they are bigger than the club.

Taupau is a club marketing team dream as other clubs well know. He is a well spoken and a very humble man and a credit to his family. Taylor piss off back to the cricket.

Everyone here saying let him go, will be the first one's whinging when we struggle to win 2 games next season.

I'd rather have a gun player who comes with a bit of attitude, rather than a nice guy like Buchanan who hits as hard as a 12 year old girl

I wouldn't want to see him go. He's a great player with a huge personality and reputation. A real crowd favourite for his toughness and the way he plays. However if he did go, the Tigers did have great wins against the Storm and Raiders when he wasn't playing.

Not sure if most people would agree with you there GNR…
Culture is usually driven by the coach, both potter and taylor have soft characters, most successful coaches demand respect, look at Bellamy, Hasler he was a teacher he knows how to communicate

Potter i would agree with you on, JT i'm not so sure. I'm not pretending JT is a saint, he had me offside the majority of the yr with his 5 tackle, bomb game plan, but he seemed to take the leash off towards the end of the yr. I just don't know if the players are completely innocent in this, they're suppose to be professional. Who needs a coach if they aren't allowed to stamp their authority?

He seemed to be indicating in the following July 2015 report that his next step would be to NFL as a linebacker;

Wests Tigers enforcer Martin Taupau could follow Jarryd Hayne to NFL

WESTS Tigers enforcer Martin Taupau has revealed his desire to participate in an NFL combine and follow Jarryd Hayne’s career path from the NRL to American football. Hayne was signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Francisco 49ers and will learn in August whether he has made the cut to the 53-man roster. Like Hayne, Taupau also dreams of pulling on a helmet and pads in the US.
Speaking candidly to foxsports.com.au, Taupau admitted he has a genuine interest in auditioning for the NFL and believes he has all the attributes to make a successful switch.

“I’m massive on the NFL,” Taupau said. “I’d love to go over there and try out for the NFL combine.
“I love the way they train. The footwork, they are very explosive and that’s my game. I’m a very explosive player and that’s the training they do.” Taupau revealed he recently met with Hayne while the 49ers hopeful was in the country recovering from minor foot surgery. It was during this meeting that Hayne told Taupau, a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he believes he has what it takes to make it as a linebacker.

Taupau fits the build and dimensions of a classic linebacker — he is 188 cm and 112 kilos — and possesses an impressive mix of size and speed vital for the position. He is also considered to be the strongest player in the NRL with the Kiwi international able to deadlift over 300 kilos power-cleans 140 kilos. “We had a good chat,” Taupau said of his meeting with Hayne. “He said I’d make a good linebacker. “I wouldn’t mind putting myself in there or doing a combine.”

Should he attempt to switch to the NFL, Taupau would find himself in relatively uncharted waters.
