Martin Taupau - Discussion Thread

Anyone whose eyes are not painted on could see that Marty played like rubbish for the majority of the season.

Is it possible that he wasn't putting in on or off the field, so the coaching staff decided to let him go and be someone else's problem ?

Just as plausible a theory as any other on here, since we are all throwing darts in the dark.

It's sad because on his day he is a wrecking ball, but those days are few and far between.

Didn't think they would let this bloke go.
Most games I seen He gave a great display in defense and attack.
Manly will be better for this in their forward pack..

Well as the wonder halves were mentioned again by JT this is the season these two very well paid under performers need to stand up. No more excuses. They've played enough first grade games . They need to perform now.

seriously, i just heard JT say letting Marty was a good decision.

am i alone here, JT is possibility the most stupid coach or the most uneducated person i've ever heard, i'm not saying he can't speak, he's a frighted little man, can anyone else see it?

I just can't believe i follow this organisation, if it wasn't that i slept with a tigers teddy bear 50 years ago i would never look back at the tigers.

JT is definitely "Special" 😕 i agree Icon…

I don't think he is a frightened little man. I think that would be a lot better. The problem is that he makes decisions as if he knows exactly what he is doing when he appears to have absolutely no idea.

I think its a good decision he is gone. Waste of space. 99% of the time, looks like tarzan, plays like Jane. Overated flavour of the month that didn't deliver any consistency.

If he wants to go, then seeya champ. I'm not at all surprised he didn't have the balls to say it how it was for the last month or so.

Neither did the WT management.

I basically agree with this. He has a massive impact when he is on song. I thought this season he underperformed.

Still he is the exact type of player we need. We have too many plodders.

I loved watching Marty at his peak, all 2 games of it.
I really did, I'm not being sarcastic. It was frustrating watching him fade out of games though, and seeing him plod around gassed after 20.

IMO The guy was the icing, not the cake. I think the players we have bought will bring better fitness and more consistency and hopefully we will not be worse off.

2016 is DDay for Taylor in terms of my membership. If so many of you are so angry, why not go to espncricinfo.com for a few months and come back in March? Life's too short, guys, and none of your jobs or Futures are on the line because of Marty or the club. Taylor's is.

We are all passionate or we wouldn't be here, and I love that about this place. If a bloke thinks the $$$ to passion equation don't add up for him then it's his call, no ill feelings until we play them, and then I'll boo like I do for any scum from the other 15 clubs. I can't blame him for taking the dough, but that's why fans endure and players like Marty are flavour of the month.

He will be a success story with Manly , just like Austin with Canberra. We have very few players who can break the line and have not made a single signing who can perform Marty's role. He should have been made to play out his contract , plain and simple.

Stevetiger, it seems everyone except Teddy has underperformed this year…. Including JT.

There is a downside to signing fringe first graders. You have them for a season and then they go looking to make up for lost time by signing their next big contract. Good luck to him and I'm sure he will do well,

I think that is a fair statement. We've had a really bad year. I hope it improves significantly next season.

I suppose there were some solid performers this year. I think Moses, Naiqama, Halatau and Lawrence all went better than expected.

The problem with some people on this forum is that they make comments, not on what is said, but what they perceive of what was said. He said nothing, I repeat, nothing about leaving, Manly, money, or any other club.

Can people just WAIT and see what happens instead of bloviating about something that they know absolutely nothing about.

I guess perception is everything

sorry jason we havent got the players to replace taupau…he is an international forward who gave to australia a few months ago.he was our best forward until he asked farah to approach taylor about our style of play.after that you could tell he wanted out and his form fell away....i am done with this club

I nearly peed myself when I read that.
He is the only player we have, that put any fear into the opposition, and we are supposed to believe he can be replaced easily.
Another soon to be famous pearl from our leader

He had three good games this year, both time we played Souths and the test match. We had our two best wins, Storm then Raiders without him. Glad we didn't try to match Manly's offer. Good luck to him and thanks Marty for the time you spent at the Tigers.

IMHO, our best player last year was Woods, than Tedesco and Seumanufagai.

We recruited both Austin and Taupau as fringe players and turned them into rep players. At the same time we surrounded them with a host of good young juniors who have done well. This is a fine reflection on our recruitment and development systems.

I have a feeling Rankin with maturity could turn into a very useful player for us but again he is essentially a 5/8 so his tenure may not be that long at the club. Other clubs will come calling. It is something we had better get used to.

People will have there own opinions for the reason Marty has left and no doubt $$$$$$$$$$$$ is the biggest factor in his decision.

I find it very Co-incidental that he asked for a Release after the affairs of Farah became Public.

My biggest concern is that players feel the need to ask for a release before there Contract commitments are completed, they obviously can't see there Careers progressing at our Club for whatever reason?
Very hard for our young fans to be motivated.

I'd rather they wait for the 2016 season to start myself.
