Who can blame him, why would anyone of his calibre stay loyal to an unloyal organisation.

Good luck to you Martin, i loved your presence on the field, you will be surely missed!!

i'm turning 50 in a few weeks, i'm in a good comfort zone, me and my partner love going to the footy, but i'm at a loss at the moment with the club, i will buy one more season ticket, if we look like we did last year, or worse, i might consider taking up golf with the misses.

GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER TIGERS!!

I won't be renewing next season , I can't be arsed with the club anymore !
I'm over all the crap we are put through season after season .
Once Taylor goes I may sign up again ??
If that makes me a Bandwagoner so be it !

He will be a success story with Manly , just like Austin with Canberra. We have very few players who can break the line and have not made a single signing who can perform Marty's role. He should have been made to play out his contract , plain and simple.

That maybe - Austin didn't play too well against us as I recall.
That is because his one trick - "show and go" didn't work.
As the years go by it will work less and less.

Marty will have a good year with Manly imo but he would not have had it with us.

Well as the wonder halves were mentioned again by JT this is the season these two very well paid under performers need to stand up. No more excuses. They've played enough first grade games . They need to perform now.

It won't be JT concern…....Ivan Cleary will get the best out of them

We made the bloke an offer and he said no thanks.

What the hell are the club supposed to do? Keep him on the books for another season so he can run around disinterested and out of form, going through the motions like he did this year?

Nup, pack your bags Marty, and take your biceps and dreadlocks with you to Brooky.

Will that be one finger or two?

You can't possibly suggest that Taupau is worth 700 k

And he won't prove his worth at Manly either

Nate Myles will prove a far better buy for them

That would have to depend on form I guess..

That's interesting Russell, because I remember after the first game against Canberra last season I said it was the first time since they got rid of him I didn't regret it. I maintain he should've been the starting 6 for 2015 and he had a great season, but after that game I didn't see why you wouldn't just hit him every time regardless?
Also, Moses evolved exponentially this season so I was further placated.

As for the taupau situation, although never a huge Robbie fan, I did like Austin. He was their best player in 2014\. Say what you want about beau Ryan, but he was the best player one season and was gone the next.

Apart from being an incredibly fan friendly asset to any team - hard nuts love him, kids love him, I'm sure women love him! - taupau was not only (imo) the Tigers second best player last season behind Tedesco, but a big part of the club's image.

I for one am having my loyalty tested with his departure. Everything we seem to be getting these days is bad news; how long do we have to go through this?!

Okay, the club was a mess when you guys got here. Salary cap, salary cap, salary cap….

As I said to a colleague the work the other day (re engineering drawings): you only ever see the score - not how it got that way. And that's what people remember and consider.

I remember years ago Carlton had to pay so much money to keep Anthony Koutafidis. He was an awesome player but then was plagued with injury and they had no depth because he was taking so much cap space. And not playing.

What happens if the future they are going all in on doesn't pay off?!
No club in any sport (well, except maybe basketball!) can afford to invest so heavily in so few options.

Now the Tigers have all these money issues and Farah has been deemed such a counter productive influence they have chosen to accept the debt to him and play with a roster that is paid ($900k?) less than every other club. They are in effect saying that without him they will perform so much better on field that they will be better off holistically.

I've stuck with them the whole way, but I have to say letting taupau go has really peed me off. Man, I love big Marty! He's one of the few reasons left I love the new items, and it feels like there is constantly less and less to like about the club I've supported for over 30 years.

I'm not happy! :imp:

Stoked to see you around again  , great post mate

JT's interview leads me to believe Taupau was already on massive overs for next year with us.
Anybody else sense that?

No sadly all i sensed was more Taylorspeak

Yeah apparently now we can resign all of our juniors with the 150k saved from Marty in 2016\. We would have lost them all if he stayed.

He definitely wasn't. Its spin yet again. We tried to resign him for another couple of years and we supposedly offered him less than Manly. There is no way he was on top dollars next year.

Not fussed about this. I don't believe in keeping players who want to leave, it doesn't do any good for the club.

Don't think Marty is worth top dollar and not a key ingredient to future success.

Some people go way overboard in here about coach and mgmt. You don't want Marty to be let go, but he's on big money for 2017 and was clearly agitating to start that big pay a season earlier. We made an offer, he knocked it back, we move on. No need for the theatrics, and if you want to drop your membership because of this player moving on, go ahead.

Look he did get an upgrade , but he would of been on not a great deal to start with

I would of thought maybe 250 k at a guess , but probably on more this season

Line is in the sand , if you don't want to be here , the doors that way

At least someone is talking commonsense on here. The offer the Tigers made(1.1 million for 2 years) was more than fair for a bloke who plays about 40 minutes per week. I wouldn't have bothered trying to match Manly's offer as they really are risking a lot of coin IMO.

For those whinging right now, come back to this thread in 12 months time when the club is looking to lock in the likes of Brooks, Moses and Sirro who will all be circled by other clubs.

Taupau was on contract for next to nothing next year. Retention of Brooks and Moses is a smoke screen from a failed leadership group and a failed coach. I am in shock of how incompetent we are.
For the Tigers cheerleaders on this forum if you paint this as a positive give yourselves an uppercut.
We are inept what a disgrace of an organisation where we want to get rid of our best players and retain a coach no one wants to play for.

Wake up and get rid of Taylor NOW>
