Matt McIlwrick

According to a report Wests Tigers have already signed him but are yet to announce.

Really Newtown?

Don't think we need him as Liddle will be the main hooker and Ballin should be back.
Hope it's not more than $100k if true.

Many many different sources have been saying he is signed with us for the past month

what about Lichaa why would we be going after him as well if we have already signed this guy.

The only reason we'd go after Lichaa is if Ballin retires and the dogs chip in 350-400k for him. Are both those really likely to happen?

McIlwrick is an experienced cheap backup player. Voted the best hooker in NSW Cup this year. How could he be a bad signing.

The Mole is saying today it has happened, just not announced yet.

Yes that gets funnier the 10,000th time….

McIlwrick wouldn't cost a tonne playing well for Newtown all season very solid defender depth signing with NRL experience..if true..

He can't be too bad. He was named as hooker in the Reserve grade team of the year. JAC and Hunt were also named. Hunt as a reserve.

Is that the same Hunt who couldn't push Rankin out of first grade?

Yes. But hey, I did not pick the team. Just reporting the information.

He missed out on playing in the grand final and now Cronulla rake Matt McIlwrick is on the move.

McIlwrick has signed a one-year deal with the Wests Tigers and will compete with Matt Ballin and young gun Jacob Liddle as Dene Halatau and Robbie Farah’s replacement.

Market Watch first revealed the Tigers’ interest in the hooker back in early August.

After starting his NRL career with Canberra in 2012, McIlwrick has enjoyed stints with the Roosters and Sharks.

The Tigers have NYC gun Liddle tied up until the end of 2018 and Ballin on contract for another season but, with 19-year-old Liddle still maturing and Ballin recovering from another knee injury, McIlwrick will be in the mix come round one.

Be great to make a signing that was a top shelve f/grader. A player who would walk into our starting 13 and make a real difference instead of backup fringe players our players on the comeback trail. In saying that every club needs depth players

Awesome. This is honestly great cap management. Pay Robbie who is the SOO hooker not to play with us next year and sign this guy.

Brilliance.

absolute stupidity to buy a hooker on a low/second tier contract, murder the coach… worst person in the world... send him to prison :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse:

Nothing like jumping on the forum for a massive slap of negativity! This is a good signing from our second tier cap. If Ballin is 100% then McIlwrick won't be needed in first grade but he is there for a backup.

As for the criticism that we released a hooker to buy another….not all hookers play the same game. The issues regarding Robbie and his playing style were well publicised. Ballin and McIlwrick are more direct players that give the outside backs more room.

If the gamble over the hooker doesn't work in 2017, then the only thing saving JT will be if the off contract spine want him there.

Do people understand what 'depth' signing means

Yeah all depth signings are destined to play 25 NRL games a year,,,,haha

if McIlwrick plays 25 NRL games next year I'll be very happy because it'll mean we made the finals.
