Matthew Bell

Bell is a little bit longer in the tooth, but would offer far more impact with the ball in hand than Gibbs and will do the job of a prop: Go forward. I'd sign him to a one or two year deal while Groat and Begovich blossom & Woods and BMM find more first grade experience.

That's not to say that Gibbs hasn't been good for us in his own ways, his defensive work is fantastic.

He has scored 1 try since his debut in 2006\. Bryce Gibbs looks like a superstar next to him. Would much rather give the younger forwards an opportunity than sign another plodder.

The very fact they've signed Bell means the young props coming through (Woods, Groat, Begovitch) will have an opportunity. You needs depth, experience and consistency in the pack. I would be happy if he played a non-nonsense role each week - i.e., putting his hand up to grind some hard yards while making his share of tackles. if the youngsters excel you can drop him to the bench or from the side altogether without feeling like we've wasted the sal cap.

To be honest I'm not dancing in the streets about Bell, but his signing fits in with what they said about bringing the youngsters through. He should be a pretty solid stop-gap for a year or 2\. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Since when the hell are props in the side to score tries?

Comparing who we let go for who we are supposedly signing. If you are happy to replace an average player with another one, well good luck to you…...enjoy your life

How about you compare on stats that a prop should be measured on, such as hit ups, metres per run, total metres, tackles etc.

Why would you compare the amount of tries scored by props? :crazy

The try example was not a comprehensive based analysis of both Gibbs and Bell. I was merely making a tongue in cheek comment that both are of similar standard, and Gibbs has tripled Bells try scoring feats (which really means sweet FA). **So why would you replace one with the other?** With the massive shedding of players, with a view of bringing in the young guns, I was hoping that they would be consistent.

Don't let the irony of this get into the negligible facts of try scoring ability…..... :brick:

why are you so sure that bell will be one of our starting props???

i think blair could be the replacement for gibbs

matt hasn't OFFICIALLY signed a contract, but a verbal agreement has been reached.

i guess the club is going to honour that (by announcing him as signed) and matt wants to come so we have our '25 tackles, 100m a game and no penalties conceded in 35 mins on the field' prop at half the price of gibbs.

One has the right attitude and is priced well.

The other is a bit of an arseclown and more overpriced than caviar

Yep - the club at the moment is looking really good with regards to the signings. We look more solid.

ps - Bell MIGHT NOT be the only Panther turning into a tiger next year.

and i guarantee the entire forum would be welcome to the player swap that we are trying to con the panthers into

I thank that's a really astute point Smeg.

The big picture seems to be that the club is looking to bring in players that might just be that little bit more "professional". Ryan and Gibbs are both well known clowns and Fifita sounds like he could have an attitude/training problems.

The three new signing all appear to be complete professionals and if this is the direction the club is trying to take then I think the cleanout is a good one.

Oh come on then, give us a clue at least!!!

There is a bloke named Jennings that can play a bit. Not saying he is coming to the Tigers, but if you are going to name Panthers best two players….

What about petro? Imagine that forward pack!!

Luke Lewis

1000/1 that Penrith will agree, the new Duke of Penrith Gus Gould wont let him leave even if he wanted to.

The players off contract next year are;

Petero Civoniceva, Michael Gordon, Brad Tighe, Sandor Earl, Nafe Seluini, Junior Vaivai, Luke Walsh

I concur that Lewis is at long odds to be let go.
