Re: Matthew Bell to Tigers

Best of luck to him with the Tigers. Underated player imo, **a bit of a pillow in attack but a very handy defender.** He does a lot of clean up work around the ruck that you wouldnt expect from a big bloke.

Ryan O'Hara?

TBH one of Coote or Gordon would do me. The only thing is that would more or less force Mullaney and Tedesco to look elsewhere, which sucks, because they are both fantastic and Tedesco especially is exciting as.

Your a good man MacDougall but I think you can give up on Mullaney….sadly no longer one of Mr Sheens favourites.

Coote is a 1 trick pony who only scores tries off bombs IMO,and the tigers don't put up bombs

that will do me, you are one of the most negative posters on here, but if you think coote cant play, you are kidding. In your mind who is a good player, seems like no one!

He is one of the best support players I've seen, positionally brilliant.

He was Harold Matthews player of the year, SG ball player of the Year, and until he went ot first grade was a mile ahead in the NYC player of the year.

He was the best player for Aus Schoolboys, NSW U18 and about every team he has played in, he unfortunately has had a few injuries which has delayed his impact in the NRL, he is a future superstar.

Jim Jones, a very good judge of a player reckons Coote is second only to Fittler as a penrith junior in his time, if we got Coote I'd be doing cartwheels. As I would with Gordon.

i'm one of the most negative posters on here? are you serious? i know your only trying to make a point but no need to exaggerate
I don't see what is so special about Coote. He has had injuries which have affected his pace, i.e he couldn't even run down Todd Carney last week.
at the risk of being labelled negative again let me just state FTR that i am happy so far with the signings and i too would be doing cartwheels over the signing of Gordon or Lewis, however it won't happen

Had a good look at Matt Bell last night he will be great for the tigers has a real go better than the sideway crab running of Fafita looking foward to seeing Bell in a tiger strip

Thanks TJ I was hoping that someone would mention how he went last night - the thread seems to have developed into a Coote thread.

Watched Bell closely last night and he played in two long stints at the end of each half.He was used as a decoy runner regularly and I saw three okay hitups from him.

His defence is a winner. On more than one occasion, i saw him reponsible for ,or involved in 3-4 consecutive tackles on the opposition.

At the end when Penrith were doing all their razzle dazzle crap,he was still running.

He may be used differently in attack by Sheens next year. But I reckon he will be a great signing, defensively at least.

I watched bell Saturday night,I don't think he goes looking for the ball like Tim grant and others. He had 3 good enough runs but i would like to see more.

I think we need to judge Bell on what he is - a fairly cheap, experienced NRL player who can do a job when required. Galloway, Woods, Groat etc are going to be our main props (throw in Blair too if you want). Bell is going to be the guy who can start if we have some injuries or come off the bench and run hard and tackle well.

I think Groat, Woods and Bell may split time in first and reserve grade. A NRL season can be very long for young props. Groat and Woods may need a rest. Bell is a seasoned FG player. Not a star but a solid role-player.

always thought bell was a bit of a "nothing" signing but i just read that he was part of the 2011 emerging maroons squad. this gives me a bit more confidence in him, though unfortunately he wasnt picked in the 2012 squad.

You don't play 110 games in the NRL (albeit as a bench player usually,) by being useless. He also started his NRL career late (signed with Penriff at the age of 24.)

Hope he finds a new lease on his career here and scores a few pies and makes a case to extend his stay.

certainly didnt think he was useless just didnt really understand why we bought him when he have a number of up and coming props and he was only a bench player for penrith. but if hes good enough for the emerging maroons camp hes good enough for me

I think he was bought exactly for that reason steve-o - because we only really had young props coming through. Losing Payton and Gibbs gave us a lack of experience in the front row and that's what he will bring on and off the field. I'd say he was also a fairly cheap pick up too. Sources have stated how he is an excellent trainer and a no nonsense hard working player. Good thinking by recruitment in my opinion.

Sorry mate, I didn't mean to insinuate you were. Was just stating that he's not the flashiest player, but he has played quite a bit of FG and is still around so he must have something.

ur rite mate, as tigertye said he looks to be an old fashioned toiler who'd train the house down. should be a good influence on woods, groat and BMM

We can't have a team with 17 superstars every week. Matthew Bell fits the profile of the toiler every team needs. With Gibbs gone, we're lacking in experience and an old head like Bell should bode well for Woods and Groat

Who knows, maybe Bell will turn out to be indespensible. When the likes of Utai, Moltzen, and Ryan emerged people were skeptical at first, but they proved their worth to us. Once players get used to the way we play I think it brings out the best in them. We might see something from Bell that we haven't seen from him before

although I admit, that's being optimistic. In all likeliness he'll be next year's mark flanagan

bell isn't going to make 10 tackle breaks, 3 line breaks, 14 offloads, and score 2 tries a game.

he is an old fashioned prop who will do his job very very nicely. 75m + every single game and 30 tackles off the bench. thats what he has signed to do, and thats what he will do.

he is the perfect player to show Groat, WOods, etc what it requires to play a season on Front Row
