That’s a big call but he was certainly a good one.The best fullback ever , before Billy and Teddy changed the game,
Yep… and he put the teeth in his sock and kept playing. That’s a big call but he was certainly a good one.
Very good last line defence and could find a gap.
Only thing he ever did wrong was sledge Ian Robert’s about his sexuality at Leichhardt one day and got the s..t beaten out of him by same IR.
Trainer was scratching around on the ground looking for broken teeth( true).
"best"The best fullback ever , before Billy and Teddy changed the game,
I think that part of that was driven by the burden he carried for so long before coming out. You’ve got to remember that , at that time, things were a lot more closeted than today.Yep… and he put the teeth in his sock and kept playing.
Roberts best known now for having a sook about just about anything.
Nah, he wants a 5 year deal and we only do ones !Are we signing Garry Jack?
Couldn't believe at the time that Wests let him go but, given Garry's love of a dollar, I assume it was a money decision for him.I saw plenty of Garry Jack. I can honestly say that when the opposition made a break, I was always confident that he could stop them as the last line of defence. His defensive game was second to none and he was great under the high ball too. Had speed off the mark and could hit a hole.
Great all round player.
2024Are we signing Garry Jack?
Yep, his teammates always said he wouldn’t shout if a shark bit him !!Couldn't believe at the time that Wests let him go but, given Garry's love of a dollar, I assume it was a money decision for him.
My final word on Garry Jack, to me his most memorable moment was his tackle on a runaway Alan McIndoe (the Emerald Express) in a SOO game on the touchline. Tedesco couldn't have made the tackle and I believe even the great Billy Slater wouldn't have made it, both aren't quick enough over the distance.Yep, his teammates always said he wouldn’t shout if a shark bit him !!
Dont know if that’s exactly true but it’s a good story.
I thought he stayed back at training because he knew a guy that did a later shift on the freeway tollbooth who would wave him through for free.Garry Jack worked overtime on his sprint training in Wollongong. He could not quite get through a gap but plenty of hard work with sprint training overcame that issue. What a great player he was for Wests and Balmain.
I've heard that but never had it confirmed.I thought he stayed back at training because he knew a guy that did a later shift on the freeway tollbooth who would wave him through for free.
Yea I liked the way if someone broke through our defence Jimmy would attack them and make the decision for themMy final word on Gary Jack..if only we had a FB of his caliber today? He had all the skills and a tough resilience. Loved watching his kick returns, at top speed.
Would have adapted easily to the modern game.My final word on Gary Jack..if only we had a FB of his caliber today? He had all the skills and a tough resilience. Loved watching his kick returns, at top speed.
Slater was way faster than Jimmy Jack and twice as talented. My final word on Garry Jack, to me his most memorable moment was his tackle on a runaway Alan McIndoe (the Emerald Express) in a SOO game on the touchline. Tedesco couldn't have made the tackle and I believe even the great Billy Slater wouldn't have made it, both aren't quick enough over the distance.
You know? I think he would have found the current game easier?Would have adapted easily to the modern game.
