They sacked him and didn’t pay him out - then just stopped paying him all together…

What did they think was going to happen.
They tried to give him a different job instead of having to fork out…

Shame Lee wasn’t around back then, Tim might have taken him up on the mowing job at LO
Probably would have made the ambulance chaser look stupid as well.

I'm not outraged....
But plenty of players have improved under Madge...

Matterson, Luciano..
Because people wanted Madge gone, they couldnt see what some players have improved on...yes Luci,Matterson.Eisenhuth,Harry Grant honed his skills under Madge now an Origin player he was stuck as 3/4th choice hooker in Melb and the year with us he improved dramatically,Madden has played better,Laurie still young and green but shows good potential,Star given the chance in NRL....I know people will make excuses, but I have said it before and I will say it again,"NRL is a tough comp, you have to be tough to make it in the NRL arena",obviously some cant handle it and blame the coach, just as Tamou said,"we were to blame for Madges exit because of our poor performances....says it all really, good luck to Noddy and the next in line....

Yes, I’m afraid it is impossible to sustain any position to the contrary.

But it was still great to see Packer sort him out.

He’s never been the same.

Word is "headaches" slowed him up well into pre-season....
He's got a heart the size of a Carraway Seed.

I was a Madge fan, I would have preferred we stuck with him and weeded out the pansies instead...

I have read on here how we have lacked an identity, truth is, we have one. We have put alot of effort into building it over the last 15 yrs.... "when the going gets tough, call someone else!"

There better be a plan in place. We have a team mostly built on princesses of the highest order, new age wet noodles who dont even understand the definition of "hard work", think they get paid for insta posts rather than playing footy.

Im all for coming to the conclusion that these muppets werent men enough to be dealt with as such, hell, for the most part they would be foreign to the requirements of being successful in their field.

But all I ask is there was a plan, someone able to make this incompetent rabble perform to somewhere remotely, even to the level of half their salaries worth, and be accountable for being so disappointing in the arena they so flacidly devoted their lives to.

Hopefully there is a magician out there looking for a gig.

Madge wasn't a quitter....
I can't say that I thought he was our long term coaching option,
But it did feel that Madge's spirit was finally filtering into the squad.
It felt to me the squad were swimming against his tide for the first few years...
I think having a send voice in Jacko really got them to change direction for him...

As I said, I can't say that I saw him here for the long term, But I do think I saw this team start to take on his spirit a little....
We've been so soft for so long - I enjoyed finally seeing glimpses of resilience in this team
I think he was worth persisting with.... Short term at the least.

Like most of us, I'm just hoping they don't start turning up in their golf shirts.

I love the aggression of this post.
It doesn’t matter if it’s 2002, 2012 or 2022…our players are mostly bitches when the torch is applied. Why? It can’t be just the coaches…

Did we really pay Madge $800k to leave NOW???
My guess is the KPIs in his current 2 year contract wld never have been achieved(top 8 minimum),and we cld have canned him at the end of this year for not very much if anything??
The sole reason why we did what we did mid season(and incur that $$) is surely to lock in the next coach(probably Ciraldo)..
Maths just dont make sense..but of course it is the WTs!!
$640k odd fine for Farah not working in a proposed role post retirement and salary cap penalties for two seasons to boot, on top of paying almost all of his salary at the bunnies.

So $800k for a coach not working, especially when he would have finished his original contract last year, well, that sounds about right for WT.

It's in the walls...
We've only had a smattering of real tough blokes since the fellas from the Merger wound up...
Just no steel.

Since then we've flashed our way to an under 50% winning ratio...
Then tried to build a club around the super talented millenials.
Never built a team of work horses.

The team also got worse...
Hadn't replaced Benji, Farah, Harry, Matterson, Aloiai...
The team we have now isn't as strong as the team we had in 2019 or 2020.
I think he tried to but Douehi for Benji but injury, Diane to replace Douehi at FB but still learning and injuries, Liddle come back from injury not as good, Simpkin still learning both for Robbie. Blore for catto but always injured and the Ute should have taken over from the lawn mower by now but injured. Sounds like I’m defending Madge, I am not. But I can see where maybe he thought he had players to step up but not. Anyway it looked to me like the team as a whole was not improving.

Agree mate, Trying to - Or hoping it would happen doesn't always translate...
I feel as a squad we spent 3-4 years getting rid of the crap and treading water a little, Trying to
get a win with young blokes here and there... Just didn't happen.

People say Matto was our best player in 2019, He was supposed to be here for 3 years
- Left after 1...
How many teams get better when their best player leaves unexpectedly and there's no time to organise a suitable replacement in that position.
Matto and Farah played good footy for us in 2019 - We lost them both for 2020...
Couldn't replace them and the results showed.
Harry was a shot in the arm, But was still a rookie and we only had him for 3/4 of a season...

Yep then Harry, and the lawn mower left the following year and again no time to replace him. That prick got dead set blessed JT gifted him a debut year in first to learn his trade and he was shit for more than a year and then he stabs us.

I jumped onto www.rugbyleagueproject.org to reflect on Madge's time at the bunnies.
After John Lang got them to 9th & 10th following the disastrous JT period Madge was in charge from 2012.

Now Lang had a pretty handy squad back in 2011 - Main names Sam Burgess, Greg Inglis, Michael Crocker, Roy Asotasi, Issac Luke, Chris McQueen (the good version) James Roberts (the other good one) John Sutton, Chris Sandow & Dave Taylor.

So when Madge took over what happened? - cos they made the Prelim Final in 2012!

Well, not a lot actually - in fact Roy & Jimmy left & George B joined but only played 3 games off the bench. So what happened - Enter Adam Reynolds! The only significant move in that 1st Madge season.

They made the Prelim Final again in 2013.

Fast forward to 2014 - What did the Squad look like in just 2 years?

SPEED to burn - In the backs: Greg Ingliss, Alex Johnson, Kirisome Auva'A, Luke Keary, Lote Tuquiri, Dylan Walker, Mobile forwards to balance the Burgess brute force: Api Koroisau, Kyle Turner, Ben T'eo, John Sutton into the forwards.

They smashed the Dog's big men to smithereens.

IN 2015 they made the Qual Final from 7th and thus were never a real chance. Then 12th in consecutive years and Madge is off to England.

Was Madge a development coach? - probably not. He already had the nucleus of a very good team when he arrived.

With Sam Burgess and Greg Inglis in your stable, you'd be pretty happy. Did he need to develop Ben T'eo, Lote? Nope. Plus he had plenty of depth players who'd been around the park - like Joel Reddy & Bryson Goodwin and a young bloke at heart in Robbie Farah. That's not to say that some of the young ones like Cameron McInnes & Angus Crichton didn't benefit from their time at Souffs but arguably McInnes & Crichton were fully developed at Cronulla & Easts respectively whilst Damien Cook & Cody Walker both started 1st Grade in their mid 20s so they had matured certainly but weren't on the radar as Development players.

BTW Reynolds won the Rookie of the year Award in 2012 debuting at the ripe old age of 22 after missing 2011 with an ACL. But the point being that Adam was already a superstar having played NSW U/17s in 2007 then progressing through the Bunnies Toyota Cup U/20s team making the GF in 2010. Madge wasn't in the club at that time.

So, compare Madge's arrival here to his Bunnies arrival - a salary cap mess and players not worth the Dencorub bill vs superstars in Burgess & Inglis. That there was our dilemma - wrong type of coach for the time of our product life cycle!

I guess the expectation at the time was that we needed a coach who would rearrange the Titanic deckchairs. A tough disciplinarian expected to turn broken bums into well-oiled machines or move them on was a task too far. It created disharmony & the Matterson issue really reinforced our reputation as a basketcase club. He succeeded at The Bunnies quickly because he had the cattle.- 4 years of finals and a GF win, not bad!

So the last years at the Bunnies, if reports are true, may have resembled our terrible Wild West expose! But seriously, how many times would you put up with being yelled at?

Apologies for the long post but having got that off my chest I must say I am quietly confident that Sheens will prevail with Ciraldo who may just be the 5-year solution.

Cheers

If I didn’t accept the whole of Tims rationale, I quite enjoyed some aspects of it.

For example we should find some comfort in the ability of the club to sign a sub marquee like Naden at the drop of a hat. He’s solid.

This Noddy as a development coach takes a whole lot of pressure off him and the squad.

I might add, Noddy seemed very composed and given his disposition, I think he is really looking forward to his opportunity. He spoke really well, very truthfully, minimal spin.

What if he flukes it and we start winning?

What if he releases the unbridled power of eyes up footy?

Madge was a formula man, players as machines. He was weening himself off it, but surely if we were all predicting the next ball carrier in three tackles time so was the defence before us.

I expect our Assistants and Noddy are good friends and we will approach matches with a less intense feel and the boys might start playing for each other.

I haven’t gone insane, this interim experiment could just work.

Should be a big bounce back this week.

Let’s hope Madge’s shock departure instills a fury in the players and they try to redeem themselves.

Noddy is a legend 🔥
Yeah, he couldn’t hide his excitement at his good fortune.

Like a distant relative has sadly passed away, was a Viscount or Duke and left you a half of Scotland.

We probably offered him an extra ten k and he jumped at it. He’d have to be on Kmart wages.

But he jags a few wins, ciraldo might have to cop another year under the glorious Panther swastika.
