Michael Potter Article explains this mess

I find this article strange. It contradicts himself a little, he says he had no control over the signings of the team but then he says he was questioned about signing Marty.

Pat Richards and Keith Luila - also I thought were Potter signings.

"Asked who made the decision, Potter said: “The then board and the CEO (Grant Mayer) at the time"

Problem I have with this is that Farah's contract was announced in March of 2013, Mayer didn't become CEO of the club till July 26th 2013, So how on earth did he apparently make this decision on Farah's contract ? It was Humphreys not Mayer !!

If that's true
Maybe Potter isn't as honest as he tries to make out he is.
It sounds like a prequel to a job application elsewhere

Farahs signing was announced well before he put pen to paper, he signed whilst Mayer was in charge.

Why? It wasn't disrespectful. Candid, but still respectful. Bloke oozes class.

Makes me feel even worse about the way Potter was shafted. He tried to set the place up for success from the start and was forced to run an obstacle course.

Well if the deal was done long before, it's not Mayers fault.
I think that Mayer was completely slimy, but he can't be blamed if the deal was already done and the board agreed with that
Looks to me like Potter has the grumps because because Mayer recommended shafting him to the new board

Seems obvious to me the deal was agreed to before but Mayer structured the back ending of it.

Didn't Potter also take edit for signing Marty? I thought Mayer did that prior to Potters appointment but I could be wrong…

After MAYER has been doing some shafting…...he finally got shafted himself.....

Good riddance I say....hope the new era of WTs board and management don't make the same mistakes as the previous rabble... :bash

Mayer was the only football knowledge in the club when the board appointed the new coach.

Jason Taylor is a Mayer recommendation.

Is my memory playing tricks or was there supposedly an offer on the table for Robbie Farah from Parramatta Eels at the time of the negotiation of his current contract? Wasn't it the threat of Robbie joining Parramatta that forced the Tigers to make a quick offer to him?

Yep that's right - but in hindsight the board should have called Farah's bluff of leaving and stuck to their guns and offered him a more realistic deal - even 3 years with an option in the clubs favour would have been a fairer deal all round. Professional sport has become a big business with no room for sentimentality. As it turned out his past two years have been on the decline.

Well the name is in brackets meaning Potter didn't actually say the name it was added by the writer to add context. Obviously they didn't research it very well.

I think the classy thing to do is to simply not say anything. I still like the guy. He comes across a lot better than Taylor and appears to have gotten a lot more out of the team.

I'm going to defend Taylor a little bit though in that maybe he is making the right decisions to get the club back on track.

Now we know why Manly speared Mayer, now I know why Qantas is a basket case with Humpty there as a senior exc there.

Exactly right Steve …Taylor has to be given the chance to rectify these problem areas so as we can move forward and become a more competitive and stronger club.....
What we have been through this year is the result of a huge clean up,with all the financial mess and no player depth, who honestly thought we would be top 8 contenders realistically.....

Obviously people will say I'm a Taylor loyalist....I was loyal to Sheens and Potter as well.....
Taylor is the chosen coach by our board...he deserves a CHANCE to coach the team and build a roster before he is crucified as many already have.....opinions are just that, and until Taylor has a level platform to work on this team with,I will judge him after he has had "the chance "to do so...

The CEO is the face and the mouthpiece of a club and everyone thinks that's where the buck stops. And normally it should.

CEO's report to the board, the board sets the strategy and the CEO makes it happen. Good boards are not seen or heard.

Unfortunately, all of our CEO's till now have had to answer to the "old boys" board.

Our new CEO will answer to a proper board for once.

My fingers are crossed but weirdly, I have a smile on my face.

Our Club is an absolute joke , A Circus run by Clowns who have no idea how to run a football Club .

Potter is all Class and still represents himself in that manner.
Never had control of anything and still managed to know how to Coach a team with what he had , was doing a brilliant job until injuries hit us hard midway through last year .
Made the hard decisions of benching Marshall when everyone went hey wire !!!!!
Felt that Farah should only be signed to a 2 year deal but fell to deaf ears , had to give a please explain in regards with him wanting Taupau at our Club .
So why did they employ Potter as a Coach ? when we are starting all over again .
They never gave him a fair chance when others at the Club were making the decisions.

Mayer was always an issue, but because he spent half the day on Twitter, some fans thought he was the best thing since sliced bread, LOL.

Depends if someone sought out his opinion. I don't think he would have went running to the media offering his 2 cents worth. If anyone has an axe to grind with the club, it's him.
