That's what I was thinking too. Reportedly our highest paid player is Reynolds ($750k) followed by Packer ($650k) and yet by all accounts we only have $800k or so left to play with.

I'd be interested to see a breakdown of Cronulla's cap too, especially if they get Pearce..

While we have brought highly for people like Tui (reported at 600K?) I also don't get how the Roosters can be talking Cronk, which should break their cap and be mentioned with Hayne and others. I have heard that their stars get the big dollars and they tell the rest they have to earn it…. But I still don't get it...

Cronulla I am thinking are backending their contracts. But they have made impressive signings like Dugan (1m?) and are keeping Holmes. I don't get how this is happening.

If you are saying Tui is getting 600k per year - you are kidding yourself.

At best, that would be for 2 years.

I am certain it’s 375k p.a for Tui. Someone with club insider jfk could confirm.

Not even that…

Mitchell Pearce has declared he's capable of playing alongside Cooper Cronk at the Sydney Roosters next NRL season after arriving back in Australia to decide his next career move.

The premiership-winning halfback's future is likely to come to a head next week after returning Thursday from a holiday in the United States.

Pearce is weighing up his options after the Tricolours signed Cronk on a two-year deal.

The Australian and Queensland playmaker's arrival at Bondi Junction jeopardises his place in the starting 13 and it's been speculated he could ask for a release.

Cronulla, Newcastle and Manly have all been linked to the incumbent NSW halfback although he is yet to ask his management to explore other options and could yet remain.

Asked if he could play alongside Cronk next year, Pearce told television reporters: "Obviously Cooper is a player you could play with, for sure. He's the Australian halfback."

Pearce is not expected back at Roosters training for another week but it's thought he'll decide his next move in the coming days.

I would love to have someone of Pearce's experience and talent in the team but I see some problems there.

Firstly, would he want to come to us? He's going to get other offers and I don't think that we are the most attractive option to him right now. Maybe in a few years.

Second, how would he fit into our culture? The Roosters do have a winning culture but, there's also the other side of it. The getting hand-outs under the table. The Bondi culture and so on.

Lastly, where do we play him? I don't see Ivan benching Reynolds so, we'd have to bench Brooksy. Which I just don't feel right about, for some reason.

Agree …. this was just not a serious option for us on many fronts.
We need to beef up few other areas of the team structure before mucking about with our 1/2s.

Awesome

Really hope it's right

Trouble in the chookpen

It's funny by all reports most players at rorters aren't happy with the situation as they weren't when rorters were chasing farah

Yet turde$co who hadn't even trained with the rorters let alone play was endorsing Cronks possible signing without thinking about the repercussions of how the playing at rorters felt about it

Turde$co and mosea will surely only be cancers at their new clubs

just read the headline in the News.Lmt press.

odd's on for Manly.
with Green going to NZ..

still Stranger Things have happened

Blake Green has officially been released from Manly.

Hopefully:

They would only release a contracted player if they could sign a better player, that better player is Pearce, better players cost more money meaning less cap space to buy other players, Manly have less room in the cap to buy other players because of this, if Joel Thompson wants a release, then Manly would almost certainly be out of the race since they have little cap room, Tigers have the space in their salary cap to sign him, Wests Tigers officially announce the signing of Joel Thompson.

Wherever Pearce goes I hope he lands into a good team culture. I have no doubt his off-field issues were not helped by the Roosters culture.

Might even get him playing his best footy if they can sort his off-field problems.

He is off to Manly, with Green released as well.

Apparently the timing is just coincidental

Pearce/ Cherry Evans - who runs the team? Both great players on their day. Will be interesting to see how they go together.

Can Robbo actually coach? I guess at the end of the day the record will say so many finals appearances and x amount of premierships, but the question of if he can really coach may always be a mystery.

Theres a lesson for rookie NRL coaches, don't start until you can get the Roosters or Broncos gig.Potter and Robbo both came back at the same time, one had infinite resources ( and still does) the other, well, lol, he came to us. The truth is the one that came to us is probably a better coach, just under resourced. Its a strange old world.

Robbo went into the final against the Cowboys with 2 backrowers in the centres & a winger on the bench who got 14 mins at the end of the game . How he has escaped scrutiny about that is amazing .

Possibly the worst coaching decision I've seen.

I raise you Lovett to centres on Whare.

That trumps everything!

Not only has he asked for a released, the Rorters has signed his released paper .. he is now free to negotiate with clubs .. Manly are odds on fav's, with Cronulla circling .. !!

I'm told it's not the done deal it might appear to be… Nothing is certain at this stage.

To manly?

Maybe his dad has asked him to consider tigers

I’d have Pearce in a heartbeat. Gives us a quality half now with good depth as an alternative when needed.

We're one of the last clubs he would consider.
