Skando for me. Always on the fringe of rep footy but week in week out was the best player for the Maggies.

I would think even when he was playing for the Tigers most recently, he wouldn't have been on big $$$ but still had a go. Much less could be said for some of the big name players.

Skando isn't a player you would consider 'under-rated'. How can the record holder for most games for WT be considered under-rated?

I think Skando was under-rated by all but WT fans. I think he definitely deserved rep selection, especially in 2005, but was constantly overlooked.

Buettner - WAY UNDERRATED

Ahh Buettner, he was probably past his best by the time he played for us but, he certainly came in handy in when Benji first did his shoulder back in 04 filling in at 5/8.

Great Thread, I was only thinking about underrated players this morning.

Robbie Mears for sure, as honest as the day is long he always tried his guts out.
John Skandalis. The best prop to play for the tigers not to represent NSW. I still maintain that he and Laffranchi were robbed of a Roo tour in 05\. As a front row pairing Skandalis and Laffranchi rolled the best props running around. Mason and O'meley, Ryles and Bailey, Webcke and Civoniceva.
Mitch Brown, after his finals series in 2010 he should of walked straight into the number 1 jersey. I really feel for this guy.
Joel Caine, wasnt our best footballer, but he always tried hard. Was one of my favourites frowing up.
Honourable mentions to Senter, O'neil and Galea.

He would have to have been the slowest 5/8 in NRL history by the time he got to us.

to me, pat richards was underated by, and continually overlooked by state selectors etc when imo he was the best nrl winger during the 2005 season. i would not have swapped him for any other winger in the comp that year !

the tigers missed him big time when he went to england, maybe even more so than dare i say it, scotty prince

IM Back, been away, but had a couple looks at the forum while I was overseas

I think that Galea, O'Neil and in more recent times Heighington were underated by casual league fans, but well respected by the hard core fans and in particualr the tigers fans.

I'm going to go very left field for our most underated player. Terry Hill. He was not underated in his career as a whole, but I reckon in his days with the tigers he was underated.

In the early days I reckon of all the old has beens we bought in that era, Terry Hill was the one that stood out, he performed strongly in a poor side and in his contributions in that time are overlooked.

I thought Terry was particularly good in 03 when Sheens played him at lock.

I may well be crucified by this, but Robbie Mears anyone? Loved him as a backup to Senter, would have liked to see more of him.

I can, unfortunately, see this being Bryce Gibbs midway through this season, man will we miss him.

I don't think John Carlaw has been mentioned? He was honest in the centres and one of our best backs in a struggling side. Went on to play at the Warriors and Dragons if i'm not mistaken.

True, and I believe was part of the Warriors GF team from memory.

Darren Willis best winger never to play for Australia and Allan Fallah best hooker never to play for Australia. for the Maggies maybe just a tad before Wests Tigers but kickass players just the same.

Darren Willis never did get many plaudits as a player .Your call on Allan Fallah is a bit ambitious but he did try his heart out.

Steve Georgalis anyone? He did play for the tigers in the inaugural year.He played well above his weight, tackled his backside off and still had energy for attack.
