7th Tackle: The club firming for Moylan's signature

Matt Moylan has a club of preference should he not resolve his issues at Penrith.

The Panthers skipper has told close mates he’d be most keen on joining Manly, where old assistant coach Trent Barrett awaits.

We told you last week about all the factors in Cronulla’s favour – and make no mistake – the Sharks are willing to offer James Maloney as a straight-out swap.

While Moylan would no doubt like to re-unite with a host of former Panthers in the Shire, he is closest to Barrett.

Remarkably, the Sea Eagles coach picked up the phone and offered condolence to Moylan when he was dropped for breaching team protocol in April.

Manly also ticks Moylan’s desire to live closer to the beach.

It’s understood eight clubs have expressed interest in his signature, including believe it or not – the Bulldogs.

None too impressed about his current absence from Penrith being presented as a mental issue, Moylan is giving them close consideration.

At the same time, Panthers officials haven’t been impressed by his application to injury rehab and recovery.

Yee ole..'told close mates'..

I doubt Manly could afford him without going over the cap. DCE is on massive money, so would be their fullback Tommy T, so where would Moylan fit in? 5/8? A team can't afford three big names in their spine unless they're rubbish (like the Warriors) or they're cheating (Storm).

Not even Roosters or Broncos could get three big names in their spine (though they get 2 1/2 alright).

Maybe if Moylan took a little bit less $ he could fit in, but wasn't this whole drama rumoured to be about $$?

Manly don't have to pay Brett Stewart and Steve Matai next year saving nearly 2 million.

I'm sure if Moylan wants to go to the Sea Eagles they will accommodate him. They will have Snake's and Matai's money for next season plus Lawrence gone and there is talk of Green being offered a contract by the Warriors but downside they will have to pay all of Sirro's and Uate's contracts next season. I hope they can't afford Moylan but Bozo nearly always gets his man!!

Manly will not have a problem cap wise,Green will be released to the Warriors and although not on Moylan money he would have been on pretty good money so they will probably only have to find about 300g or so cap space. Manly have a few players on heaps but they have plenty on small contracts

Hmm… live in manly or live in penrith... Tough decision

Well cheaper rent in Penrith by far.

But why do footballers have to live in the suburbs where they work? Lots of Sydney-siders don't.

Didn't Manly come out the other week and say Blake Green was definitly seeing out his contract at Manly? Kiss of death.

The warriors just signed Blair on big dollars, plus Harris and Beale, Foran is gone, and Mataulino, but Mataulino was on bugger all, they have RTS, Luke and Johnson who just re-signed on big coin, their cap should be full.

Also Warriors have not re-signed or released a number of other players such as Hoffman, Lillyman, Thompson, The Beast, Lolohea…...........so who knows how much they have left in their cap

Or maybe a player is actually not coping.

Either this is contract stuff hitting the fan now and some player wanting extra money…. But I really don't think it is. If you go to a Grand Final, your value will increase. If you start saying "hey I can't play because of personal issues" are you looking at more Dosh or less?

Gus and Penrith have had to accept that one of their stars "Isn't OK". He isn't going to sign for anyone. The NRL is incredibly stressful and the guy cracked. Not hard to imagine.

Can we close this thread already? Would rather he play with the Chooks or never again then suffer the consequences of Depression. Life is just more important then this stuff.

Yee ole..'told close mates'..

You're on the money again Geo.
Let's start with Massoud , this is the individual who told one and all that Connor Watson had signed with the Tigers. Credibility NIL.
Manly don't have any money in their cap, have you ever heard of the Trbojevic brothers there goes the bulk of Matai and Stewarts money plus full freight for Sironen and Uate in 2018 and beyond. Their only chance is to move Green on to the Warriors and then find some money could happen, but its not going to be easy.
Maloney will not go to Penrith it is insane to think so, he may go to Souths or Newcastle but on big money.
Penrith's priorities are 1- Sign Edwards. 2-Sign May. 3- Get Griffin to do a man-management course in the off-season. 4- Hope that they can keep Blake, Peachy, Yeo and Campbell-Gillard happy on ordinary contracts.
If ever there was any doubt about Moylan leaving Penrith that was dispelled last Saturday night when Bryce Cartwright put on his best display of the season.
When Moylan is released in a few weeks if Ivan decides he wants him at the Tigers we are in with a huge chance. We have money in the cap, and wasn't Harry Triguboff made a Life-Member the other week back.

Interesting that there is no mention of Ivan's relationship with Moylan in the article, nor any mention of the West Tigers. I just wonder if Nathan has invited Matt around to his place for a barbie and a beer or two? - and by some chance he happened to run into Ivan at Nathan's place.

mmmmmmm?

Moylan is either staying put or going to Manly. We are not in the race. Anyway we should get a answer soon when Penrith season comes to a end

And your source is WHO ??.

Oh well cross that one off the list! Who else can we chase for the last 2 spots? Wouldn't mind a name player, but I suppose they are all locked up by now, so they will probably be a couple more depth signings, sadly.

What's this rubbish about Moylan going to Manly because he wants to live by the beach .
The guy who plays 7 for the Panthers lives at his parents place at Newport .
