Nathan Peats officially told to look elsewhere

I wonder what would have happened if his teammates were given the opportunity to sacrifice a small portion of their contract money so he could stay?
Never even heard it mentioned.
And what happens if Watmough decides to come out of retirement down the track?

The pay cuts were mentioned early on ..the NRL knocked it back as the Cap breach does not only apply for season 2016 but seasons 2012-15 which is part of the breach notice…

The only avenue available to Parramatta to become Cap compliant in 2016 is to shed players...

I know they would still have lost points but thought they could get themselves compliant under the cap and play for points the rest of this year if the players took a paycut - no different to punting someone really.
The whole thing is a fiasco.

Well that was vastly easier and with less drama than what we went through….

I'd imagine De Gois will be the hooker for the rest of the year then.

Who nows what NRL instigated pressure he was under to sign with Titans.

No pressure, surely?

Robbie Farah urges Nathan Peats to “do what he thinks is right” in Eels cap saga

‘Happy’ Peats ready to accept his fate
Paulo uses disguise, fake name to play union
Parramatta Eels must offload one more player to fit under salary cap
ROBBIE Farah has thrown his support behind Parramatta hooker Nathan Peats, declaring the Eels’ likely salary cap sacrificial lamb “doesn’t have to go anywhere”.
Farah knows what it is like to be a representative hooker on good money at a club, only to be given little notice you must somehow find another club despite still being contracted.
As Peats’ management spent another day urgently trying to thrash out a deal for the sake of Parramatta playing for competition points, Wests Tigers’ rake Farah had a simple message for his fellow dummy-half.
“Do what you think is right,’’ Farah said.
“I was in a similar situation, and the whole time I knew I had done nothing wrong and was well within my rights to stay here.
“If he feels the same way, he should back himself and do what he thinks is right.
“He’s done the right thing by the club for the amount of time he has been there. He’s been one of their best players every time, and he’s been placed in this situation through no fault of his own.
“He’s got a contract and doesn’t have to go anywhere.
“But I feel really sorry for him to be placed in this situation because there will be a lot of pressure on him to leave the so they (the Eels) can start playing for points.

“That’s not his fault.

TROUBLE: Paulo in trouble for rugby cameo
“They went and signed four or five recruits in the off-season — and they were big recruits — when they (had already been fined) for being over the cap.’’
After almost getting squeezed out at the Tigers, Farah was curious as to how the Eels squeezed Michael Jennings into a roster that had only recently added fellow internationals Kieran Foran and Beau Scott over the summer.
“As a player you get a bit envious, and you think, ‘I wish we could have signed those sorts of players’. You wonder how they do it. But I guess we now know,’’ Farah said.
Last year Farah was told by the Wests Tigers to find a new home, even though he was entitled to the remaining two years of his contract that had been heavily back ended. He dug in his heels and the matter was eventually resolved.
OTHER NEWS: RUGBY LEAGUE COULD LOSE KEARY
Peats could be forced out of the Eels in order to ease salary cap pressure.

Peats became the third player the Eels had hoped to shed _ after Anthony Watmough and Ryan Morgan _ so they could wipe the outstanding $570,000 from their cap, and be eligible to play for competition points in time for tomorrow night’s emotional clash against South Sydney.
There remained hope the Gold Coast and Peats could agree to terms.
If you were one of Peats’ teammates, Farah said ‘’you’d be dirty with the people who have put them in that situation, not Peatsy’’.
While they share the same agent, Farah said his actual dealings with Peats had been limited, including a brief chat when he visited the Emerging Blues camp earlier this year.
Peats is arguably Farah’s eventual No. 9 successor for NSW.
“I’ve got a lot of time for him, he’s a good kid, he’s a tough kid, he puts his body on the line each week, and I would have thought the last player they’d be trying to get rid of,’’ Farah said.

I still can't believe the clubs haven't got together to write Parra's season off by not grabbing any of their players

From what I've seen of Parra , I wouldn't want to face them in the semis if I didn't have to

The whole thing is a fiasco.

They discussed this on one of the radio sport shows - apparently the NRL didn't want a repeat of when the Canterbury were caught - and the players all took a paycut and they kept the same squad together that was originally put together illegally. It makes it a bit of a farce though when Parra only has to pension off one player and move on one who was off contract at the end of the year anyway.

That's exactly what I thought would happen, I'm surprised Titans didn't stall on the peats deal for a couple of weeks to kill parras chances of making the top 8\. It would've given the Titans one less team to worry about competing with for a top 8 spot.

So the big question still stands

Are the Eels cap complaint or not ??

I think every league fan deserves to know before kick off in the Souths v Parra game

My understanding is they are still over the cap

Parramatta were trying to put it over the other teams so why not Titans putting one over Parramatta.

Peats should have just stalled and signed with Titans in 3 weeks or so.

I'd say his loyalty to his mates made his mind up. He would be wanting them to play for points. Class act.

Titans looks the obvious fit, given that they have 2016 cap, and no hooker.

You never know though with these things, McGreggor is not a fan of Rein and would replace him immediately if he could find anyone decent, but cap could be an issue.

He'd be handy for SOuths too, but cap is probably a drawback

I should get myself a Mole or lurker style column, Ive got one right now, probably do me for the year to keep on pace with their guesses

and a not so humble brag with the correct guess is also in line with the Lurker and Mole

Call me cynical( as some will), but this is a club who have made a lifestyle of cheating.
So I would not be surprised if inducements of some type were made to both Watmough, and Peats , and maybe others, to help things along.
Also I don't go for the theory that the players , not necessarily the ones mentioned, didn't have ANY knowledge of the cheating. . Players probably don't know the exact amount that other players get, but would be in a better position than most, to have a reasonable idea. And they aren't all completely challenged at being able to add two and Two.
It's hard to keep secrets forever in a football club.
Just as the Storm players must have been at least, slightly suspicious about the amount being thrown at them .
How the Managers and the players were deemed to be all squeaky clean, is a joke.

At least the punishment that the Storm received was reasonable, the NRL has turned this problem into a joke. Watmough may never played another game for the club anyway , , Paulo was going for 2017, and Peats isn't a big loss. Neither is Morgan..
But the cruncher is that they can still possibly be able to win the Competition,
No side that has cheated over such a long period , should be allowed to have the chance to Rob another club, that, as far as we know haven't cheated, of the chance of being in the Top eight
This is the gutter as far as the NRL goes, this is about as low as the AFLs drug cover up policy is.
