I wouldn’t mind the assistant from the Storm.
If Cleary goes I do everything in my power to chase Wayne Bennett. He has a huge stature in the game.
The talent pool in Brisbane is endless and his connection to that alone would be terrific for a club that struggles to attract players.
I dont think he would be attractive to the Tigers but the money from Penrith we get as compo you never know.

Wests Tigers are weighing up a move for Wayne Bennett after the club was asked whether they would be interested in signing the seven-time premiership winner as a replacement for Ivan Cleary.
Bennett has already been told by the Broncos that his contract will not be extended beyond next season, leaving him on the lookout for another club as he attempts to continue his coaching career beyond his 70th birthday.
The Tigers have emerged as frontline contenders given they are resigned to losing Cleary — he has a contract until the end of 2020 but has received an offer from Penrith, where his son Nathan recently signed an extension.

It's like one of those puzzles from when you were a kid, where you have to rearrange the squares to make a picture, moving one square at a time.
Cleary across, Ciraldo down, Bennett down, Maguire up and across, Seibold up… suddenly Souths are holding the gap.

Cleary has to go now. Bennett is the better coach but Maguire is preferable based on age. He could be a 10 year coach for us and we need stability. Can Wayne coach 4-5 years? If this happens either way we are way better off. Cleary=Myth good coach but people carrying on like he’s jack Gibson.

I’m not sure he’d want to finish his final year in Brisbane but if he does, signing with us for 2020 already gives him security. The deal could involve a pay out from releasing Cleary to Penrith 1 year early. I would think both the club and Cleary would prefer to come to an amicable resolution as far as Cleary’s future. Cleary continues what he started for one more year. Both he and Wayne move on on their terms and then both coaches can concentrate on 2020 when it comes about.
My preference is Cleary one more year even if Madge was available now. He has New Zealand commitments first which would put him on the back foot in regards to getting his systems ready for start of preseason.
Finally by the club being able to announce Bennett is coming in 2020 it would actually help with our recruitment this year. Remember any player we sign from November is someone for the following year.
With an announcement that Wayne would be coach would assist Pascoe and Egan I’m putting together a more formidable roster for 2020.
Bennett or madge doesn't bother me who it is, both are upgrades to Ivan imo.
If and only if this story has any legs it would be a better guess tha Bennett will be at the club next season. Brisbane want him gone ASAP I do think this is more Fake News but if the Panthers come to the table with a huge payout anything is possible I suppose, I am not sold that Bennett is the right choice but it is better than a rookie.
