This is very similar to what happened at Penrith a few years ago when Cleary and Gould came along (Moss also). Previous admin buckled the club with backloaded contracts in guys like Lewis, Jennings, McKendry, Gordon, Grant and Coote. All but one remain. A few years went on and they relied on juniors to fill the void, then heavily recruited in positions they needed with experience and a few journeymen (almost a "moneyball" approach). Players like Manu, Taylor, Idris, Whare, Segeyaro, Wallace, Soward, Kite. They filled the squad with blokes who had something to prove over a few years.
With the added experience of the above names some of their great rookies began to shine. Moylan, Mansour, Docker, Watene-Zalezniak, Cartwright.
Signed great rookies like Peachey.
Blokes like Lewis Brown, Nigel Plum, Jeremy Latimore are all playing great footy.
I think this has Moss written all over it. He has probably looked at our books. Gone…good god, how do we fix this? And come up with a plan.
Us as fans may have to crawl before we can walk, thank previous clowns in the club for the mess they've left us and put complete faith in our new structured coaching department. It may be a journey as I'm sure Penrith fans would know, but look at them now, they'll get a premiership soon. We just have to be patient and trust the blokes running from the top down know what they're doing. As disappointing as it is to lose players like Blair, Thompson and Austin we just have to cop it on the chin. That's the salary cap unfortunately and we don't have as many paper bags as the Roosters.
