No New Signings until 2017 - Jason Taylor Statement

I would much rather JT come out and say we will sign no one then sign someone than say we will sign someone and sign no one. There is no high hopes or expectation now and then a let down like when Mayer came out and said our marquee signing was Aaron Woods. Most of us thought a marquee signing meant a new player from outside the club. Well, probably everyone except Mayer that is.
Still happy to put my trust in Taylor and his team.

It is simply not a fair competition - WT will always be in the also-ran category. I've given up hoping for anything other than mediocrity from this club.

The NRL is the new Premier League. The rich get richer and the poor starve. Look at all the top teams, all backed by millionaires. There's no way a team like us signing Josh Drinkwaters yr in yr out can compete with teams poaching guys like Sam Burgess and James Graham from the UK, and being able to keep a spare 500K in the wallet for a rainy day.

Have you been watching the Premier League? Only early days but Southampton whored off half their team and are still second, perennial strugglers West Ham are fourth and regular top four placers like United, Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool are sixth or lower.

The club needs to get smarter in the way that it operates, and the problems are far reaching. We're broke at the moment, Balmain are insolvent, we're playing out of three grounds to appease particular factions of the fanbase, our board and management up until the end of this year lacked business acumen and only looked to further their own interests/ego.

The club needs to streamline operations and hire the right people to turn the club around. But in order to get the right people you need to pay the right money.

They can turn it around, but resolution of ownership must be the priority in order to have a unified vision on how to implement solutions.

my big concern over the last few years has been that we have paid massive overs to keep our juniors.

it's a dumb game we have played with this pathway to the nrl tunnel vision.

They're the only ones we can keep / attract to the club Bon.

that's a load of bs by fans playing the poor me card.

for the majority of the last 10 years we were at full cap and said not to expect player signings.

when we did have money i can only remember 3 big names that were confirmed we were chasing.
ellis,lote and blair.
and we got all 3.
when potter took over he was never allowed to sign quality established players.

of course they won't come when you are not in the market for players.

8\. WOODS
9\. FARAH
10\. GALLOWAY
11.TAPAU
12\. …..HALATAU
13\. SIRONEN

7\. BROOKS
6\. MOSES
5\. RICHARDS
4\. SIMONA
3\. ....NAQAMA/LAWRENCE
2\. NOFOALUMA
1\. TEDESCO

14\. Santi/Akouola
15\. Lodge
16\. Ava
17\. Sue

That's not a bad side, but JT is right....we need a centre and a second rower...

Can anyone explain the obsession some people have with trying to turn Taupau into a back rower? He's the one bright spot heading into 2015, he's not broken, don't fix him.

He can play prop and second row and the team has 4 props already.

He'd need to fill a gap until someone better comes along…as another poster said, we are light on depth, so with the current roster, his versatility needs to be utilised.

Do we have another choice? I'd gladly leave him at prop, but given our depth, I don't think we lose anything by putting him there.

I actually heard the interview while driving.

And in between the missus and the kids all talking over the top of each other, I could gather the points JT made were:

1\. Not looking to purchase anyone new.
2\. Released Blair due to salary cap pressure.
3\. However is someone came along for the right price he would be interested.
4\. Centre is one area they could potentially look at.

So its not all doom and gloom, as he left a small window open with regards to buying new players.

So it took 6 pages before someone else who heard the interview balanced the argument with truth. Thanks for that mate….makes even more confident in Taylor and Moss.

Penrith showed the way last year….a team of players who are well coached and work hard and for each other will achieve good results...we could be this type of team this year!..of all the players released I can honestly say I'm not sad to see them go...Gavet being the exception...but he was on the outer before last season finished....We will surprise many...the only obstacle could be our injuries

Is Jason Taylor the real deal or pretender I don't know the answer this question .Time will tell!
My understanding is Taylor got the job over with Potter because it had a five year plan.
What upsets me is Taylor can go on 2GB and tell people some of his plans but you cannot tell the supporters! The supporters have the right to have a basic guide on what's going on before the public. We're ones with pay for membership jerseys etc.

Spot on…

When negotiating to buy anything, do you tell the seller what your actual budget is?

Just like player managers invent stories of interest from Japanese Rugby to push the price up, maybe WT are sending signals that there'll be no more fat pay checks for has-beens?

Wishful thinking perhaps, but desperate purchases are something we need to avoid...

Well, I guess the club is now going about the business of fixing the problems of the past….........but how many are still at the club that put us in this mess to begin with? I want to see more heads rolled from up top.

Good to see they aren't just going to throw money at just anyone though, looks like some thought is actually going to be put into the club.

Jack Gibson said that winning starts at the front office, I just wish if there is anybody in the front office they would let the supporters know WTF is going on.

They have let us know what is going on. We are now complaining about it.

I don't expect the board or Grant Mayer to publicly detail the clubs financial position. I also don't expect Jason Taylor to publicly divulge his strategies to place the Tigers in the top four.

To quote 'Yossarian' re Taylor again; "I guess either you believe the man or you don't."

Spot on NT
everyone wanted change right ? We could sense a lot of things weren't right this year and the media at times raise our anxiety levels by making us question our Club and how it's run.
We as fans are sometimes left in the dark and will not always understand the reasoning for player A leaving or player B released from his Contract and all we can do as fans is try and believe the people at our Club are steering us in the right direction even though at times makes us question these people (Mayer , Mcdonnell etc.).
The Cap: there are players that are still with us signed by Sheens that maybe have Contracts heavily back loaded and we are now feeling the affects of it Lawrence , Moltzen but then again makes you think what would of happened if all these players that left wanted to play there Contracts out , Fulton had no choice. But say Blair stayed for his final year along with Austin ,Gavet , Patterson and Thompson going through with his original 2 year deal he agreed with us would we have been fined by Ian Schubert next year ? 😱pen_mouth: that is the reason we are all trying to do the Maths and say we have 1 Million in our Cap for 2015 why aren't we signing anyone ?
I think JT is a smart operator and would have a plan in place , if he does not get things right in the next 3 years i'm sure his well aware he could be left unemployed by the end of the term just like Potter is at the moment . I really hope JT gets things right as much as at the present time people are saying WTF is going on .
Anyway enough of my dribble :sign:

It was a sarcastic comment mate. We never go looking for talent because for whatever reason we don't have the money (most likely the reason you already suggested.)

4 pages for a quote one poster said they heard on a radio station with ratings that SBS Radio would be embarrassed with? I'm not saying he didn't say what was suggested in the OP but I'd rather hear something more concrete. JT's official statement the other day certainly wasn't along those lines

It feeds into it.

His statement the other day? He said there was cap room and while he didn't want to make promises or guarantees, a signing was possible.

Did he say that? The only thing i heard him say is that there weren't going to be any new signings, only in a much less blunt fashion.

His exact words in the statement were "By releasing Adam and a couple of other players recently we have had some relief in the salary cap. But I need to make it clear this doesn't mean that we're going to be signing up players between now and the start of the 2015 season… I can assure Wests Tigers Members and supporters that we have a clear recruitment strategy..."

So basically, the entire forum is in uproar because we have well known financial pressures, and refuse to throw money away at nuffie players that other clubs don't want, so as not to exacerbate those pressures.

Yep, must be the offseason alright !

Yep thats pretty much it in a nutshell. :crazy

To me 'relief' in the salary cap means simply we are choosing not to spend up to the cap.

Fair enough. To me it looks like Taylor and Moss are taking ownership of the squad and will start implementing their plan. Let's give them a go!

CB you seem like an intelligent forum member, and I often like what you have to say.

But I just can't seem to take you seriously with Weird Al gyrating erotically in the corner of my screen :roll

there wont be a club in two years. as when we finish near last supporters and sponsors will desert the club. has austerity worked in Europe. of course no. the club is a mess

It's all well and good to say we ll be right in 2017 but the reality is we need to win games to keep supporter base up , games on TV/ sponsorship up, membership up. All this takes care of itself when winning.
