NRL/ISP Trials V NZ Warriors LIVE GAME THREAD*

Whilst we were ordinary - a few things came to light.

*Madge's bench decisions were very poor.
*I thought Farah was very average and apart from one kick to the corner basically jarred the attack (as he did last season) - giving Liddle only 17 minutes was unforgivable. We looked far better in attack when he came on. Scored two tries in his 17 minutes and one try for Farah's 63 minutes.
* Benji played like he did in the latter half of last season - very poorly - at least Reynolds had enthusiasm and tried a few things and the backline looked more dangerous.
*We needed much quicker line speed and more slowing down in the PTB area - Elijah Taylor seems to be the only one that can do this effectively.
* Rowdy (when he returns), Matterson and Garner seem to be the best of the edge forwards - McQueen played better than he did all last season but still has a ways to go. Garner played very well.
* Brooks played like he did last year - good on ya Champ!
* Think our best back five are Mbye (ordinary game), Jennings, Momorovski, Masters (still needs to improve his goal kicking - 77% is not good enough) and Thompson.

Hopefully we will only get better - a few in ISP will apply pressure, that can only be a good thing.

- Benji, Masters and Nofo cannot be defending on the same side of the field together.
- They shifted to our edges and just got outside of us too easily.
- Benji was pretty ordinary and should have retired.
- Nofo needs to go.
- Packerlino looked spent after 13mins
- Terrible start from Jennings in Tigers colours with not playing the correctly then giving away a penalty on his next involvement.
- Brooks was great, especially defensively
- Garner was solid
- I liked how Mikale recovered from his knock and didnt go missing
- It looks like were one trick ponies, Early ball to Masters is our only play similar ti when Teddy was our only play.
- Mbye ???
- Matterson, Twal, Eiso was solid without being great.

Well finish 11 - 15

Yep, I have to agree with the many posters that are saying that the lack of enthusiasm was the most disappointing thing to watch - apart from the poor camera work and appalling commentating!
As much as Benji made a few errors, I thought Reynolds was worse than him and looked like a guy who hadn't played any footy for 2 years.
We were man-handled for most of the game by a bigger, tougher and more enthusiastic pack - very few of our guys could even make a dent. We are certainly short on grunt!

Brooks, Mikaele and Garner looked the pick to me. Twal, Matterson and Jennings did OK as well. I thought Marsters attacked well, but his D is rubbish and has never been much good (did you watch him in that Indigenous game recently?). Nofo looked slow and Thomson looked too small - although the Warriors wingers are pretty special. Mbye was very quiet.
The rest of our pack were less than NRL standard - so we need to see what Lawrence and Taylor will bring.
Finally, although Liddle looks sharper, he doesn't have the overall game that Farah has nor is he as durable. I think Farah still gets to start.

I think Farah today was really good but that’s just my opinion.

I am more worried about our 5/8 situation with Reynolds and Benji both awful.

Packer and Matulino look even worse than last year.

Nofo should retire.

I know it’s only a trial but that performance was really underwhelming.

Is Momorovski a new signing..because Momirovski didn't play..

Apart from the lack of enthusiasm already mentioned the most disappointing thing for me was ISP looked far more structured in attack and defence and did it with 15 blokes..One NRL trial seems light..but we will see

I also Eisenhuth Twal Mikaele and Garner showed some good signs but we will miss Lawrence big time I think..and Brooks needs to stay fit all season..

You're bang on. ISP looked stronger across the board than first grade did. They had clear structures in attack and defended well across the park. I really hope today wasn't an indication of what is to come this season.

Bit picky after a loss aren’t we?

My apologies @Russell ..I read your post wrong ..I realise now you meant options not who played today …I also think Momirovski should start the year in the centres

We will certainly miss Lawrence enthusiasm in the backrow but to be honest backrow and halfback where probably the 2 areas we went ok.The starting frontrow particularly Packer was unsighted and had us on the backfoot from the start.
Our stocks in the backrow would probably be the strongest we have had since Ellis left.I would take Woods back in a heartbeat if we had the opportunity
