NRL Trial vs Panthers

Sounds like Austin and Anasta have both played well tonight, what does potter do for the next trial if brooks is fit?

He'll play Brooks naturally. Look its a good result tonight, but don't get too carried with how players perform, cos trial form means nothing.

Penrith knock on inside their 10\. Last chance for the Tigers to score.

78' — Penrith spill the ball inside their 10\. Last chance for points here as we press on the attack 10 metres out from the line.

Well, yes a trial, but I was delighted to hear that only 2 tries were let in. They were both from kicks.

Yes, yes, yes it was only a trial but (fingers crossed) our defence looks like it has improved. All the posts on here and twitter indicate that our goal line defence was very solid. A number of Penrith repeat sets on our line nullified!

Good start.

Match Report: Wests Tigers vs Panthers

Wests Tigers defeated Penrith Panthers 32-8 at Camden in front of 5042 fans.

Wests Tigers got off to the perfect start with grand final hero Pat Richards coming up with a trademark kick off which Penrith failed to handle.

Head Coach Mick Potter had spent the off-season demanding his players build pressure and he would have been pleased with a repeat set from their first possession.

When Chris Lawrence barged over at left centre to finish a nice attacking movement from that set, the Camden crowd left the players in no doubt they were supporting their local side.

Pat Richards had his first conversion attempt from the sideline, but his kick was caught up in a heavy cross wind and faded to the side of the uprights.

Wests Tigers were off to a flying start, capitalising on a penalty in their next set to camp themselves on Penrith's line before the Panthers had managed to touch the ball in the game.

It got even better from there when Curtis Sironen pounced on an error from Penrith in their in-goal when they failed to clean up a grubber. Playing in the second row, the 20-year-old showed great agility to notch up the second try of the night.

Richards made no mistake with the conversion to take the score to 10-0 after 7 minutes.

Penrith found themselves with a run of possession after that try, but weren't able to challenge the Wests Tigers line.

Braith Anasta was showing great leadership from five-eighth as stand-in captain for the injured Robbie Farah and was torturing Panthers fullback Matt Moylan with his kicking game.

A superb 40-20 from the former NSW player gave Wests Tigers a perfect attacking opportunity and they executed with perfection.

Winger David Nofoaluma was the beneficiary of an attractive scrum play, running in a nice try in the right corner after receiving the ball from fullback James Tedesco.

Richards missed his second conversion of the night to leave the score at 14-0 after 20 minutes.

Wests Tigers let the standard slip a little after that, conceding penalties and coughing up possession with loose passes.

They kept their line intact however, although Penrith were missing first choice halves Peter Wallace and Jamie Soward.

Penrith's attack appeared sloppy in their first outing of 2014, and despite Wests Tigers allowing them far too much possession, the home side's defence was more than a match for what was thrown at them.

Wests Tigers opened the second half in great fashion when front rower James Gavet ran a sharp line back towards the posts to crash through.

Braith Anasta had taken over kicking duties from the replaced Pat Richards and made no mistake.

David Nofoaluma was sent to the sin bin after chasing down a Panthers break soon after. Penrith looked certain to capitalise on their superior numbers but spilled a certain try over the line.

It was Wests Tigers' night and centre Keith Lulia cashed in after 53 minutes, showing his ability to his new fans when he stepped his way over at right centre.

Blake Austin got himself on the scoresheet to stretch 26-0, converting that try as the extended bench began to replace the starting side.

Hooker Dene Halatau suffered what appeared to be a nasty injury soon after - full details will be made available on the Club’s website when they are known.

Penrith finally got themselves on the scoreboard when Isaac John cleaned up a loose ball from a cross field kick to score a scrappy try.

The conversion was missed leaving the Wests Tigers in front 26-4 after three quarters of the match.

Two of the Wests Tigers’ new recruits combined after 64 minutes, five-eighth Blake Austin kicking a banana back towards the posts, with Cory Paterson surprising Penrith to stretch the lead.

Austin made no mistake from under the posts, converting for a 32-4 margin.

The closing quarter saw much of the original team replaced by the extended bench, including NYC players who had earlier played part of the U20s clash.

Wests Tigers had the bulk of possession, but a brilliant leap from Penrith winger Eto Nabuli saw the big man claim Penrith’s second try of the night after he flew above Delouise Hoeter.

The conversion was missed leaving the score at 32-8.

That would be the final score for the evening, Wests Tigers running out convincing winners in what capped a successful day at Camden.

Wow, from what I've read it seems Austin went fantastically! Also great my main man Lawrence got a try and it sounded like tedesco went really well too.
Apart from halataus injury it all sounds very positive going forward.

Anyone who was there, who were the standouts in your view? And which forwards?
