I have no doubt that Reynolds will be a great buy for us and will work very well for Brooks next year. My only issue is how long his contract has been signed for, he'll be 32 years old receiving $750k that year at the end of his contract. Is that not seen as a liability for anyone else?

The salary cap will have risen quite a bit by then, and $750k will be fairly reasonable, if not a bargain

The way economics are goimg these days i predict the salary cap will GO DOWN next time. Clubs that sign long term have to be careful.

We have no huge contracts on our books like some clubs, who have more than 1 player on a million or more, how do they do it

The cap is never going down. It will only keep rising. In 20 years it will probably be over 20 million.

Pffft your dreaming. Salary cap is based on the amount of broadcasting money we get. Channel 9 will not come to the party next time. There actually thinking of getting rid of cricket. I believe theyl offer half of what theve offered this 5 years. Fox having no competition will put a price up thats far lower than what they offered this time around.

Id be suprisedif we got over 1.2 billion next time.

No. A lot of players play their best footy between 28-32\. Injury may be a concern but really when isn't it?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if he is injured in 2018 and it's a career ending injury, then we can pay out his contract for the following years outside of the cap (as long as it's a new injury, and not a pre-existing one.) So long term contracts are a good idea, as long as they are not carrying any injuries.

As 851 has already said, with the cap increases it will likely be the lower end of the scale for established first grade halves.

The cricket costs them money. Pretty sure the they do OK out of the NRL, especially since Fox has to pay to simulcast (pretty sure Nine got four games originally, and Fox had to pay simulcast fees to Nine to show them live.) So they capture all FTA viewers and get subsidised by Fox to show the FTA games on Pay TV. Plus the SOO which is a standalone deal.

Channel 9 are still interested in cricket despite analysts saying they shouldn't be.

In terms of the league, there will be Channel 9 and Channel 7 which will always bid for them.

Reynolds is how his name is spelt he had a pretty good game tonight had a go all game as he all ways does will be a big buy for the tigers hope he stays injury free when he comes on board will be a leader in a rebuilt side

You'd think with Reynolds & Woods being mates JR would've spoke to woods about the club… Despite all our deficiencies it doesn't appear woodsy discouraged him like he couldve

He came here for more money, simple.
The Dogs didn't think he was worth what he got from us.

Just like the players we denigrate as mercenaries.
Only it was to us,instead of from us.

I'll explain the difference to you. The players that left us were offered great contracts especially Tedesco. The players coming to us weren't offered in the same ball park. Typically if players are offered good money they stay with the club they are currently at.

The guys we are denigrating as mercenaries are much more extreme than 99% of players in the comp.

Reynolds left for money, no matter how you want to spin it? ( and I don't have a problem with that)
Teddy and Woods left to play in a team that had they believe has a better future on the field, and was better for their future. ( which will indirectly result in better money .), I don't have any problems with that either.

Do you really believe that Reynolds would even consider coming here for LESS money.
It was the one and only reason.
You said yourself that the players, (including Reynolds) came here for the overs that we were paying,
They are actually more mercenary than either Woods or Redesco

It would not be the fact that Reynolds was going to his new career as a reserve grade fill in ..it is always a bonus if you can get more money to play at the level you want .
Tall poppy syndrome at work ?

There is a photo going round of Reynolds throwing his leg out at Gutherson. He really needs to knock that rubbish out of his game. He's supposed to be a leader when he gets here. Some like me even think he should be captain. He can't be doing that crap.
