Pascoe sanctioned by the NRL

Next brilliant move - NRL CEO decides which clubs can get salary cap concession because some won’t be able to afford it. Call this the roosters storm broncos rule.

No consistency moving forward which is honestly the opposite of most fans want.Toddles described it as "fairness" which it certainly isnt.

Had to laugh - Beattie using the excuse he had a commission meeting to get to so he could end the press conference. They started the PC an hour and a quarter late but had to start the commission meeting on time. I suppose that’s because you can’t have consistency hey Todd?

Throw in Third Party Payments. I'm pretty sure De Belin would be on decent TPP coin. If you were the CEO of the TPP company would you still want to pay an alleged rapist during the two year court time? I guess the TPP contract might give the Company a get out clause but given the NRL "No Fault" policy I wonder if this muddies the water .. especially given the NRL deep concern for player "Welfare". If a player used the TPP to leverage a home loan and the TPP firm decided to pull the plug then clearly the player's "Welfare" i.e. loan repayments would be affected.

If it hasn’t been agreed to then you are correct, if it was agreed to it should have been included in the cap in 2016 or 17

Well I would argue that it should be counted in the year it’s paid. If we sign a player for next year it doesn’t count to this years cap so why is it different for an admin role?

Anyway it’s probably all been covered 100 times so let’s just hope it’s done and dusted soon.

As a side note I can’t see Greenberg and Beatie lasting the season. They are dead set off in lala land.

Greenburg said consistency is an over rated word and he would rather provide fairness.

He said nothing is consistent and don’t expect it from the NRL.

Chris Wheeler, Deputy New South Wales Ombudsman January 2014: "What is 'fair' and 'reasonable' depends a lot on your perspective".

These despots are giving themselves carte blanche to continue doing exactly as they please. If you want fair and reasonable set up your own league somewhere else.

Dragons NRL star Jack de Belin has found out his fate today after a dramatic meeting of rugby league bigwigs delivered a crushing decision.

[news.com.au] FEBRUARY 28, 20191:59PM

Under-fire NRL star Jack de Belin has been stood down after a bombshell decision from the ARL and NRL boss Todd Greenberg on Thursday.

The ARL commission revealed changes to its policy on Thursday after a lengthy meeting at Moore Park, allowing for players accused of serious crimes to be stood down pending the outcome of their court cases.Dragons CEO Brian Johnston addressed the media after a long morning of waiting at the NRL headquarters.“We are just about to head off now and give consideration to the changes the NRL are making to the rules so we can digest that and understand, clearly, what it means,” he said.

Channel Nine reporter Danny Weidler revealed De Belin, who is contesting a charge of aggravated sexual assault, would be “stood down” and said Dylan Walker also be spending time on the sidelines.

Peter Beattie confirmed the news at a press conference at 1pm.“What we are doing is to set a benchmark and a standard to defend the game of rugby league,” he said, citing a need to repair the damaged reputation of the game.“Our aim is to rebuild the game. This is about a standard that is expected from players who wish to play in the NRL competition.”

Word from ARLC meeting is Jack De Belin will be stood down. Hearing players facing charges that could result in 11 years in jail leads to automatic ban. Dylan Walker is also facing time on the sideline. Manly centre Dylan Walker likely to be stood down, hearing 3 months

Greenberg stressed the NRL is making no judgement on the current trial and confirmed de Belin would be able to continue to train with the Dragons.

The new policy dictates that any player who is charged with an offence that carries a prison term of 11 years or more will be automatically stood down.Rugby league great Phil Gould was particularly critical of the decision, voicing his opinion on social media on Thurday.“Many in RL circles will be affected by what’s about to happen in next 48 hours,” Phil Gould allegedly posted in a tweet, now deleted.“The actions about to be taken, will instigate a wide range of reactions. “We could witness absolute chaos, welcome enlightenment, or even irreparable damage. Emotions will run high. I see few winners.”

After a summer marked by negative headlines and a string of scandals, the NRL has been hit from pillar to post and was pressured to act.

This was just what I read.

You got that right, talk about out of their depth

Doubt it is 11 years, but Greenberg said don’t expect consistency.

Seriously, they just make up this crap as they go along. The game is being run by a couple of spineless politicians rather than anyone with any form of leadership skills

I know any business needs to evolve with the times, but anyone would think rugby league was a new sport. Cap rules as well as rules around player behaviour on and off the field should have been sorted years ago. I cant believe there are so many niggly problems in the game atm. Just get this rubbish sorted so the fans can enjoy some good footy on an even playing field.

In fairness, its the players that are assaulting people and the clubs that are cheating the cap. But you're right, the NRL are doing a terrible job policing it. It would just be nice if those who earn a crust from the game would put the game first.
