"We’ve got a number of guys in NSW Cup who are NRL players and that’s what you want and that’s how you build a successful club,” he said.

“Anytime Canterbury has been successful in the past it’s had strong NSW Cup teams and Jersey Flegg teams and that’s what we’re trying to build and we feel like we’re getting closer."

- Cameron Ciraldo

We still have plenty of catch up to do
Some seem to think all you need is a good 17. Well that maybe the case if you wanna win one year, but if you wanna be at the top long term this is the mentality required.

Was looking for this thread all afternoon

See the boys got up, any thoughts from people who saw it? Especially on Laulili vs Naden for Skelton
Laulilli played ok, but Naden was a standout.
If it’s form based, Naden would get the call up.
Tristan Hope was great again and our two high energy 13’s in Charlie Murray and Bailey Hodges were both very good and it will be interesting how they continue to develop.

Thanks as always Vicious, I can't justify bar TV but glue myself to nswrl updates through flegg and cup but don't get a lot of insight from thay

Naden showed he is a class above Cup, nearly 200m run metres, another big efforr chase in defence and big voice to help this team. I must say each player was solid today, you identified the key performers and I’ll add Heath Mason, Elie El-Zakhem & Jaxson Rahme. Sukkar too. But finally everyone put their hand up today. Let’s hope this is the turning point.

At the game, watching live....
Naden showed a lot of leadership qualities.

Played well, moved to fullback towards the end of the game.

The cedar boys were all solid as well.
Rahme is such a nugget.
Elie looks promising.

As you know I’m a big Heath Mason fan.
I know he is not in Bula’s class as an out and out fullback, but he’s what I call a boots and all footballer, does nothing half hearted except catching the high ball. In saying that I have no doubt he will continue to improve under the high ball and he more than makes up for it as every ball carry is with 💯 intencity and nearly always makes half breaks and lands on his front because of it.
I agree our 3 boys of Lebanese decent were all very good, I’m definitely seeing Sukkar becoming more confident and starting to realise he can use his size and speed tj advantage. He’s also becoming a more confident and more reliable defender.
Rahme does nothing flash, but works hard and is always in the game, can’t fault his effort.
El-Zakhen is another big body on the edge and runs good line, looks to be a good late signing for us.
Kurt Falls was much better yesterday, which made a big difference.

After Naden's miserable end to first grade mid-last season, to his credit, he showed excellent effort and application in reserves in the final 8 weeks of the season. He has carried that form into the this year. While Skelton is a big loss, Naden is a more than handy replacement.

Great performance yesterday:
Extremely impressed with Ackland, thinking not much of him going into the season but he surprised yesterday in attack, pretty soft in D.
I love Sol effort and intent out of yardage but his defence is woeful. I am a strong believer that his best position is centre but geez wasn't great yesterday. He has been leapfrogged by both Naden and Laulili and possibly soon Feledy.
El Zakhem played well definitely some promise. Kurt Falls looked great.
The attack looked beautiful at times and I think i'll credit Kurt Falls with that one.
Porter off the bench was a nice touch. Definitely keeps the intensity if he comes off the bench to replace Sukkar or El Zakhem.
Can Tristan Hope be any more of a reserve grade player. Great leader out there and holds it all together but not good enough for first grade. I think he is awesome, gives me Dockar-clay vibes.
Heath showed up which is nice. I do want to see him back at 6 but I don't think we will get that for awhile.
Naden ... i missed you.
Very weird, looking at the team list i thought this could be a quick 50 for Newy but extremely happy with Falls, Ackland and Hope. They glued the whole team together.

Great performance I hope to see them back it up next week at Lidcombe!!
Go wests

What did you think of Charlie Murray starting at 13 and then Bailey Hodges off the bench ?
I think these two have plenty of upside with their high energy style of play in attack and defence.
Murray has a very nice passing game before the line and also looks to have enough speed to be a running threat.
I think the query is whether or not he’s solid enough defensively, but his attacking game is good enough to have him considered for NRL game time after round 11 when he becomes eligible.
Hodges is a bit different where his running game is more based on high speed carries, but he’s also played plenty of 9 so is very versatile.
Both are probably a touch on the lighter side, but look to have plenty of upside to their games.

Murray is growing on me but not sure he has the physicality to be an NRL lock prospect. I hope I stand corrected over the next month. Whereas Hodges has plenty of upside at only 21/22yo, just not sure whether his best position is dummyhalf or lock. Hopefully is given time in both positions this season. Very skilful and very good defensively.

We both called for Hodges inclusion and there is no doubt he had a big influence on the much improved performance with his all action style of play featuring heavily.
I haven’t looked at the stats yet, but every carry was with high intensity and his defensive line speed was great.
I think we both agree he’s an under rated prospect, let’s hope we continue to let him prosper and don’t let him slip through our fingers.
The natural passing game, ball playing and speed over a short distance is what really impresses me about Charlie Murray.
I’m not certain if he’s defensively good enough or not just yet, but I can see that his link play would work brilliantly with our power running NRL forwards.
If Jack Bird was missing through injury, I honestly think either one of them could do a great job for our NRL team as an interchange 13.

Imagine if 3 former Easts/Brisbane Tigers premiership winning players make their debut with us - Faataape, Hope & Murray, kudos to Richo.

Couldn't agree more. I've liked Murray to start the year thought he has been good. But yeah too small, I also think my opinion on him mounts on the fact I still believe in Matamua who I believe should be there. A lot of these players Hodges and murray included are very attack orientated and tend to rely on a bigger body in defence. I think the magpies are smarter swapping a bigger 13 with Murray coming off the bench.
But I do agree Murray has exceeded my expectations this year.
