Penalty Try?

Yes penalty try for mine and had we been on the receiving end i would have no qualms about it either. Whether or not the penalty try was given i still believe it was a try giving Marsters grounded the ball after it was stripped.

Did MCK go off for HIA after scoring? If yes that shows you the impact of the high shot.

Hahaaaa nope, lots of times players go off for HIAs so the team can get a free interchange, especially when a penalty is given because it justifies their decision to do a HIA.
You can't tell me that players aren't being taken off when they don't really need to be.

Everyone screams for the NRL to be consistent. At the time I did not agree with the Craig Smith penalty try in the Melbourne v Saints grand final, but it was given.

MCK may not of dropped the ball outright when hit but he was stunned, bobbled it, and did not have hold of it when Kahu slapped it out.

I would have been filthy if it was given against us, but would not have been able to come up with an argument why it should not have been a penalty try without reverting to Phil Gould like, "I am an Alien", drivel.

He didnt bobble it and he did have hold of it when it was stripped, don't know what you were watching.
If the strip doesn't happen he scores.

@TheDaBoss
Yeah nah.
MCK got whacked in the head as he was about fall over the line for a try.
He would have scored it 100%.
It was therefore a certain penalty try and if it wasn’t ruled as such and went against us it would have been a huge injustice.

yep my thoughts as well

Another penalty try that shouldn't have been awarded in the Dogs game.

Once again the contact didn't prevent the player from grounding the ball, he got to the ball and just fumbled it trying to ground it.

The bunker has opened Pandora's box with these calls.

**NRL admit ref’s wrong call robbed Cowboys in narrow loss**

NRL head of football Graham Annesley personally phoned North Queensland CEO Jeff Reibel to admit his whistleblowers got a crucial call wrong, which cost them during their golden point loss to the Wests Tigers.
Annesley said senior referee Ben Cummins erred in awarding Ryan Matterson a first-half try in the Cowboys 27-26 loss in Townsville on Friday night after missing an Esan Marsters knock on in the lead up.

“We believe the wrong decision was made,” Annesley said.

“It’s been a couple of weeks in a row that we’ve had incidents in Cowboys games, which we regret and we wish they hadn’t.”..........

.......... The bunker awarded the penalty try after the Tigers centre was collected high by Jordan Kahu and he spilled the ball over the line.

Under NRL rules, a penalty try can be awarded if an official believes “in his opinion, a try would have been scored but for the unfair play of the defending team”.

And Annesley said he had no issue with the bunker’s call.

“They come down to personal opinion,” Annesley said.

“In this case, we’re not in a position to say the video referee made the wrong decision.

“He formed a view that a try would have been scored if he had not been hit high.”...........

did he phone us up? and apologize about the :hankey: calls during the Rabbitohs game?

He couldnt find our phone number or he would have

@TheDaBoss The bludger would have called us up and said we should have been penalised more, and that we should consider ourselves lucky he didn't sin bin our team just for showing up.

They did, and because Pascoe picked up the phone while under suspension he is facing another 2 years.

Strip and we still score ...even Paul Green admitted that

Can imagine the uproar on this forum had it been the cowboys who were awarded the penalty try that got them back in the game and then ended up winning the game in golden point. The fact that the on field ref called a no try should have taken any sort of argument out of the equation. I’ll take it anyway about time we’ve had some luck on our side.

the on field decision doesn't matter anymore. from now on, the bunker rules on it as it sees it- they don't need "enough evidence to overturn the decision"

i can't see it from an unbias view but I think it should've been a penalty try and this should set a precedent for it as well. in fact, MCK came off for a HIA afterwards as well. there was enough in that head high shot for me to say that it interfered with MCK putting that ball down.

I really don't understand why the ref even has an opinion of try or no try when sending it to the bunker, if the bunker is going to over rule him anyway.

It's a joke, the ref should just send it to the bunker, the reason why he sends it in the first place is because he doesn't know, so if he doesn't know then he doesn't know, so let the bunker sort it out.

I reckon the referee should talk to the video ref similar to how the touch judge would talk to the referee. He passes on what he has seen but then leaves it to the video ref to make the final decision.

No use having a bunker if the on field ref is going to his / her 2 bobs worth ....get rid of the try / no try , video ref makes the call without any prejudice
