Still very concerning that the board appears to have completely missed the mark. We know the club has been making money. There's no footy people taking part in the review, what part of 'governance' are they looking at exactly?Article in full below
The owners of the Wests Tigers have commissioned an independent review into the operations of the embattled club in a move that could have sweeping ramifications for the most powerful figures in Tigerland.
Sport Confidential was given a statement outlining the parameters of the review, which was rubber-stamped after more than 2000 club supporters signed a petition urging a review following a decade of abject disappointment.
The review will be conducted by former NRL chief financial officer Tony Crawford – now the managing director of Benchmarking Matters – and Gary Barnier, the managing director of Cooperage Capital Pty Ltd.
The stunning development comes as it emerged that the club had waved farewell to experienced assistant coach David Furner and failed in a bid to prise respected head of football Peter Parr out of Newcastle.
The Tigers have aimed high in their search for a new football chief and Sport Confidential understands key officials sounded out Parr about his interest in joining the club.
Parr is believed to have offered a polite thanks but no thanks. His priorities are on continuing the revival that has begun at Newcastle.
While the Knights are flying, the Tigers have languished at the foot of the ladder and their owners have taken the extraordinary step of commissioning a review into the club’s governance in response to the pleas of frustrated fans.
“The board of the Holman Barnes Group has commissioned an independent report into the governance of Wests Tigers,” the club said.
“The board would like to thank all members and fans of Wests Tigers for their feedback in relation to this matter, especially all those that took the time to sign the petition that was submitted through the hosts of Wests Tigers podcast.
“While we are unable to set a specific time frame for the completion of the report, we are hopeful it is completed in a timely manner.”
The Tigers have been under immense scrutiny in recent seasons following a run of wooden spoons, the latest leading to the early departure of head coach Tim Sheens.
Chief executive Justin Pascoe has been at the centre of supporter concerns, having presided over nearly a decade of mediocrity at the Tigers.
Fans made their feelings known over the closing weeks of the seasons as they held damning signs in protest at the performance of the club and its chief executive.
The Holman Barnes Group – named after Wests legend Keith Holman and Balmain icon Keith Barnes – was established in 1955 to support the Western Suburbs.
It has grown exponentially since then including its ownership of the Wests Tigers – the group owns 90 per cent of the club with the remaining 10 per cent in the hands of Balmain.
I agree.... We need to go hard now we are here where we're at.... No 2nd measures or half arsed efforts.... It's all or nothing I hopeStill very concerning that the board appears to have completely missed the mark. We know the club has been making money. As I mentioned previously the decision making processes of the football department and the board need to be reviewed, speaking to players and agents, past and present. Anything less is an embarrassment, and typical WT fluff
This is a real problem , firstly well done to all who pushed for it , now my thoughts are bean counters to do the review , no football experience at all , again they will miss the mark and say yep club is in a really good place financially and has grown over the last ?. Years ,the football dept and our position on the ladder over the last 10 years won’t get a run I feelStill very concerning that the board appears to have completely missed the mark. It sounds like it's being done by 2 finance dudes. This should sort things out 😅😅
If this is a genuinely professional and independent review into the shambles that has passed for a club administration these several past years, it's hard to see one bloke in particular hanging onto his job
I'm not sure about this? Dont want to in anyway pour cold water on the hard work of fans, especially Garry and Hemsley but how were these 2 selected to do the review? Was there a tender process? What qualifications do they have that would give us confidence of an independent review being able to produce reasonable recommendations. It sounds like it's being done by 2 finance dudes. Just google it but prepare yourself.Congratulation guys absolutely amazing job
Do we know much about the people conducting the review?

Why would the owners release those recommendations and their intended action to us fans?
Yes, we can only hope. Because we dont have anything else. 😒We can only hope that this is a genuine review and positive action will be taken rather than a token review which is just to try and calm stormy waters and then ignore it.
Hopefully the club gets it right for once

My experience is that whom ever commissions the report gets the outcome they want - they are rarely truly independent.
This is not necessarily a negative as Holman Barnes may want to shake things up and the reports provides both the “independence” and leverage to do. So.
