Phil Gould joins Bulldogs

Bad news for us I reckon. He has been lobbying hard to get any NRL team more involved in the South West Sydney. He will really try to get the Bulldogs paws up in the Campbelltown/Narellan area with the new set ups there.

We cannot have everyone, as I understand we signed Sheens for that role. I am happy with this, Sheens was already with the WT, while Gould was always with "money is no object" teams.

We’ll see. I’m not sure Gus is the great mastermind he’s made out to be.

I’m not a big fan of him.
He gets everyone offside with those big poppy eyes 👁👁

Had a google to check his age, with me thinking he’d easily be in his 70s, but he’s only 62..

With Sheens being 70, I’m sure we’ll get more out of him than Gould.

Just the question is, who comes after these guys?

Why is it that clubs like WT and Bulldogs need to “set up development pathways within the club”, why ? If they’re fundamental to the success of the club don’t they already exist? Us fans accuse players , when it’s the club dropping the ball.

I agree,

he will try to weaken not only us but Penrith and the Eels as well. In doing so he will make the Dogs stronger. I doubt it will be instant but we will need to have our house in order.

As neighbouring clubs and both underperforming can't say that this does not raise a level of concern. Hate when Gould is affliated with Sydney clubs and retains his media presence. Always seems to have more influence on the NRL than any other commentator.

I agree with @Yossarian that he is not the great mastermind he is made out to be. But you have nailed his best attribute and that is controlling the message for the club and himself. As a commentator he can really control the message and make a club and himself look a lot better than they are.

My thoughts exactly. Its a great pick up for the Dogs and could be a significant blow to Wests Tigers. Gould was approached before Magic round and there is no way he takes on the role without doing his homework. When asked in recent times about WT he has always said we should base ourselves at Campbelltown and take advantage of the growth and potential there. Make no mistake, the Dogs will target that area and they will target it hard. We will have nobody to blame but ourselves. You snooze you lose.

they will move to take over Liverpool area not campbletown perfect for if this new stadium comes about
if campbletown was the great messiah some say regarding growth then Magpies would never have had to merge
WT needs both junior bases balmain and Csmpbletown to survive

That would have far more to do with poor strategy than anything else.

WT need both areas to develop if they lose campbletown or Balmain areas we are stuffed.
Liverpool is practically dogs territory now that will be Gould's target

I don't disagree we need both areas, but if you think for a minute that Gould will see the Campbelltown border and steer clear then you have rocks in your head. I mean even Souths who are nowhere near the place see a chink in WT armour there.

But by the same token, if it was the answer to all RL clubs problems Gus wouldn't have mentioned it. He would like us to concentrate there...for his own reasons. I'd be very careful working on Gus goulds free advice as he normally charges clubs a lot and he gave this for free as he was taking the bulldogs job?

But that’s it - our problems are because of poor management not location.
