Player signings around the Grounds

When you have his ability as an AFL player and a golfer I suppose you have to offer big bucks

But it is bad career move for him in my opinion , he'd be better off taking a bit less and going to a stronger club

He needs experience now and will need some strong players around him to build his strengths as a player

There's a report now Knights are willing to table $1M per season for Holmes and Bird from Cronulla starting 2018.

If this is not an exaggeration and they were signed, plus Ponga, that's already a massive amount of cap on just 3 players.

I wonder how much of Siro's salary we are paying in 2017 & 2018.

Siro took the 2 year option he had on his contract with us for 1 reason only…...to protect his salary for the next two years regardless of whether he was playing NRL or NSW Cup.

**Manly picked him up cheap IMO.....and at our expense again.**
Watching Siro in the NSW semi's.....we haven't lost much....some of those other guys had it all over him.

He had better improve quickly otherwise he can expect to play alot of time in NSW cup again at Manly.

Yeah this is becoming a bit tiresome.

Believe it or not, we aren't the only club who has players on the books who are at other clubs. It happens with all clubs. It might seem more frequent with us because our club is the only one we pay attention to, but it isn't. I'm pretty sure Tim Grant would still be getting paid by Souths. Lets not forget about Todd Payten either. So its not like we haven't benefitted over the years.

Good news is that the Knights are not targeting Teddy & co at this stage :stuck_out_tongue: !!

On the flipside, the Sharks would have a war chest. And with no Barba or Holmes, i wonder who they would be targeting.

Nathan Ryan = Ali's Rumours…

I read that the Knights had offered Ponga a 5 year 3.5 million dollar deal! At 700k per season. That would be ridiculous. Who knows if his body can even handle NRL at this stage. Lots of superstar kids turn out to be fizzers, as we well know.

That's a lot of money for a kid to be earning and living in a small town with nothing to spend his money on. Kid would need to speak to Ben Barba asap.

The only winner out of that Ponga deal will be the Cowboys not being forced to pay overs to retain a 'kid with talent'… Look for them to have a red hot crack at Valentine Holmes now!

As for Newcastle, Are they still run by the NRL?

Player X.

Then Player X's club would target Player Y and round we go.

But to put it in context, if Newcastle were to offer and get Holmes for $1M per season, it tells you that Sharks likely do not have $1M to spend on the fullback position.

Ponga held up pretty well in two finals games. Didn't look out of place there.

Not sure how he'll go at a club where he's not surrounded by the same quality however.

Two seasons Diehard, or just 2017? I thought it was just one year ext in his favour?

Sironen was already under contract for 2017..the extension in his favour was for 2018 ..thank you Grant Mayer..We have effectively released him from the final 2 years of his contract…

With Ponga moving on, the Cowboys can try to convince the next best junior from Townsville in McKenzie Baker to stick with them instead of staying with the Roosters.

Don't mean that at all…Wests Tigers have released him from the final 2 years of his contract..

If the story that I heard tonight , is correct, (that the Cowboys have refused to release Ponga from his contract for 2017, as well as not getting suckered in to paying ridiculous money for "potential",), then the Cowboys are to be commended for both things.
Paying monoploly money to teenagers, is fraught with danger,
As has been shown in our own case.
While weve seen some flashes of form at times it's very seldom that we've seen consistency, especially from both players at the same time.
Maybe that will eventually happen, but IMO , the only one of our younger highly paid "youngsters", that has earned the big money is Teddy
Hopefully we'll start to get a return on the investment next season

It's about time clubs started refusing early releases

Yeah think you'll find cowboys refused to release him from his 2017 contract but confirmed he has signed with knights from 2018.

Sorry that's what I meant, He's gone, but they'll hold him to his current contract .
