Of course I'm more than happy for government money to be spent upgrading the public schools, but it was a poorly thought out and poorly executed scheme. The only real beneficiaries of this were the builders who pocketed an absolute fortune for these projects by basically writing their own cheque. Sure a few schools may have got some classrooms or a canteen they desperately needed, but there are schools that are having second halls and libraries built that will serve absolutely no purpose to them.

The government should have spent more time on the scheme appointing qualified people to conduct a strict tendering process to ensure the government was getting value on every single project that went ahead. In one instance, it cost $850,000 to build a canteen! It was poor form by the government to let these inflated submissions be signed off on without questioning them at the very least.

great idea lets throw more tax money at commitees maybe we would not have needed such extensive work done in schools if the last government hadnt robbed the education system if u ask me and nobody would why do we waste money on state governments we should a centralised system for the whole of australia

Here, here.

Honestly, all they actually needed to do is have the p&c committees source the builders and quotes. Instead of a beurecacy. But, like not eliminating foil insulation, they didn't research or think about the policy structure…. **Nor did they fix either when things started going wrong!**

Yeah, there was no follow up. Did they not retain final payment until the site was inspected by the government and all defects are rectified? A P&C committee would butcher any builder that did half a job! I don't expect a committee to be formed to review the findings or anything, the damage is already done as far as I'm concerned & it would only waste more money…

I don't know why she would bother going on his show. Jones is a failed Liberal Party candidate.

She had to mate he has one of the countries biggest audiences that arent pre-pubescent girls and he's not afraid to ask the hard questions.

Biggest audiences in the country? What are you doing PR for Jones? He gets less than 20% of the people listening to the radio at that time. And most of them are over 60 anyway.

Oh yeah and we all know the unions are standup people….

what about the people who are in them

Mate I'll never denegrate workers in a union….I was in one for 11 years. Then I quit my job and went out on my own contracting...During my first big job a builder short shafted me pay on a contracted job. I sought out my rep for advice and he basically told me I was on my own...even though I was a fully paid up member for more than 10 years.

I told him to get stuffed and quit on the spot, to which threatened me. I then recieved invoices off them for subsequent fee's, which of course I didnt pay, these turned into reminders, late notices, phone calls and then threats. I kept a dialogue going with them the whole time but stopped when I was visited at my home by two gorrillas at 1030 at night midweek.

THIS is the unions....they are standover men. I stuck to my guns and never paid them....ever since any project I go onto as a subcontractor usually involves some drama with reps trying to get me excluded from meetings and once even kicked off site.

Do I have a set against them? you bet your backside I do....I think they're the scum of the earth.

I agree the policy was poorly implemented but surely you can see the problems you'd get with having P & C Committees making those kinds of decisions. ICAC would have to block of a year's worth of hearing dates. The insulation policy was just not thought out problem - surely anyone with public policy experience could foresee what would happen when you give incentives like that to a largely unregulated industry.

Schools building programme is actually good policy. The implementation could have been better handled at least in the review stage between tendering and building. Any RFT process worth its salt should have a value for money component to it. The MRI fiasco was another example of poor implentation of a half decent policy idea.

Mate iI'm talking about shows where the hard questions are asked and answers are demanded. It's more reputable than the crap shows these Labor people usually go on to hide and have their ego's stroked. Rudd used to go on Rove and answer questions about what his favourite colour was

Haven't we been here before? Once again you are taking the actions of one union (the CFMEU I'm guessing) and applying it to the union movement as a whole. It's like not going to the doctors because of what Dr Patel did…

You seriously believe that? Jones soft soaps Libs and brings out the guns for Labor pollies. Check out his interview with Abbot. No on seconds thoughts you would have already listened to that. Jones has as much credibility as Piers Ackerman. Serious interviews aren't conducted between Alan spruiking for seafood companies or trying to get retrials for convicted murderers, they're done by people with real credibility like Laurie Oakes or Tony Jones.

Go away you boring little idiot….I'm talking with grownups here.

Akerman is a Liberal fan boy with a large vocabularly and is Australia's version of Rush Limbaugh. I regularly tire of his Labor bashing when he can't even recognise faults within his own party. But you can't tell me that Gillard, Rudd and Co. haven't been responsible for some shocking policies, gaffes (ETS, mining super tax,) and porkies neither.

Unfortunately, because voting is compulsory, you have a large portion of the public who couldn't give a rats about politics and take no active interest in it whatsoever and for them, its tantamount to a popularity contest. This is more or less how Rudd got in… Speak a foreign language, impress the electorate with a large vocabulary and show up on Rove a few times and you've got 75% of the 18-25 demographic right there.

Unfortunately, democracy in this country means we vote to keep the worst one out, not vote to get the best one in...

Gentlemen…...I dont really mind Politics on a Rugby League forum ....in fact it can be quite amusing...

but lets try and stray away from personal insults.....

Simon has obviously been on the red wine cause the ABC is broke....

As for Liberal or Labour....I pretty much gaurentee no one's lives will change drastically either way...

P. S Go Julia.....

Sad but true….I wonder how many of those bandwagoner kids who proudly strolled around wearing Kevin 07 t-shirts have hit the workforce as of yet and whether their thoughts have changed at all?
