I'd hate to be a cop in the USA with all those guns floating about in society. It's no wonder that so many people get shot by the police. They must be suspicious/nervous in every potential encounter that the person they are approaching might be armed.

I don't claim to understand the American penchant for guns. it seems like a downwards spiral. The more guns there are out there the more you have to protect YOUR right to own a gun.

And I don't understand the police attitude. I would have thought that the police and police unions would have been the most vocal advocates for gun control, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Honestly tigger the good ol US of A has a national psyche that is still firmly entrenched in days of the Wild West. Many are still living the Civil War also. All their issues surrounding arms and rights and riots etc is just this collective psyche manifesting itself in the 21st Century. Despite all its rhetoric of being the leader of the free world, it’s a nation that has never really grown up.

I agree we dont have the same forces acting on us to bring about an implosion like the US, but if the US continues on its current path, Im not sure people have thought about what will fill the vacuum caused by the implosion of the worlds largest superpower.

It will create a lot of new stresses and new world actors and there will be new forces acting on Australia. I dont think we can be that confident that it will or would necessarily end well for us. None of us are uninterested bystanders.

I am NOT pro gun. I dont own one, dont want to own one, hopefully never will. I LOVE Australian gun laws but the US is a very different beast and recent madness shows exactly why they have this culture and what the 2nd amendment refers to "a well armed militia".

Come on man ! All the videos say they’re throwing rocks and fireworks and hurling bricks . Hardly a need for ***deadly force*** . The procedures and crowd control structures are in place, but at the end of the day , if these people want to burn Down thier neighbourhoods, which by the way , is actually counter productive to thier cause , as it actually reinforces negative stereotypes , then that’s how it is.

The Seatlle Mayor has banned the use of ***NON*** lethal methods so the police (including SWAT/TACTICAL/RIOT) hove no methods available to manage violent mobs and rioter other than asking politely not to. Pepper spray, tear gas, water cannons, bean bags etc etc are all banned. The police have been totally neutered and as the Police Chief says they have no ability to safely intercede to preserve life or property.

I highly doubt that SWAT and tactical response groups have been neutered , so it has to be an escalation in force . You can’t just go straight to deadly.

This is exactly why gun sales are going through the roof in US and I think it is shallow for us in Australia to pontificate without real understanding of the situation.

One of the single most important elements in WEstern civilisation is the Government having the monopoly on violence. US legislators are ending that monopoly and that is specifically what the 2nd amendment is for.

I just saw he tweeted the old chestnut that Biden would abolish the second amendment and take away everyone’s guns. Now besides that being an outright lie and fear mongering election tactic, only in the US could the phrase “take away your guns” be interpreted as a bad thing.

I ? apologise . I not only misread your post , by I misinterpreted the article I read about this as well. That’s the most illogical thing I have ever heard . I don’t even know what to say . I’m actually shocked , that someone would ever pass that law .


Mate, zero requirement for apology and this is happening all over the US. I'm anti gun, but if I liven in the US, I'd have one.
