Potter Gone - Contract Not renewed! Official!

Firstly I would like to thank Mick for giving us the opportunity to see the many young guns in our club,Mick Potter your dignity and integrity are second to none, and I congratulate you on a great performance under extreme difficulties.I did say in an earlier thread that I would hope the new board makes a decision that takes Wests Tigers in a forward direction and not base the decision just on Mayers recommendations as I feel he has his own agendas, only time will tell… :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Was always a dead man walking. He did well in such horrible circumstances and remained professional throughout his tenure.

A man of such solidarity and the kind of person he is did not deserve the treatment he got from the club. He deserves much better and in a way, I'm happy he doesn't have to deal with all the BS from within, but sad he leaves without being given the chance to do so.

Thank you Mick!

I'm upset by the way the club (and for mine Mayer) have treated Potter. Never had a chance.

If Parish is signed then imo this deal was done weeks ago and agian POtter had no hope. Also adds specualtion to the Farah interview being cut short by Mayer. Mayer is guilty as hell if Parish is signed.

However, I think we need to move on as mentioned Potter would continue to be undermined.

What I dont get is why the board would not renew Potters contract without interviewing other candidates first to see how they much up. Again is Parish a foregone conclusion.

I will be extremely disheartened if it is Parish.

Please sign Griffin and sack Mayer. Then with a new Board, CEO, Head Coach and Coaching Staff it will be a real fresh start.

I am very angry (understatement )

I will not be pursuing membership for my family for 2015.

I am mostly peeved at the " New Approach" comment

We have needed discipline and strength in a coach for years, we got one and now he is gone.

Perhaps the WT official statement should of read: Dear WT fans….we are excited to announce that Mick Potter has been sacked, he never had the support of anyone in power at this club to begin with. We hope to announce a new coach by the end of October, by which time every decent player on the market will be signed to other clubs, so to tell you the real truth the new coach will be stuck with an identical squad to this season. We hope our playing group like their new coach or else we will be looking for another new coach for 2016\. We hope our extremely loyal (re: gullible) fans will continue to blindly support this farce of a club emotionally and more importantly financially (I need to be paid!). Enjoy your Xmas turkey suckers. Yours unsincerely Grant Mayer.

Sad but true.

It wont change the opinions of people who react to every rumour and innuendo, and who base their views on every piece of rubbish that is written, or said, even if it is not backed up with any facts. So no ….. the speculation will never stop with some people.

Indeed! Of course, some are better informed.

Well, I truly hope that next year Mayer comes under heavy scrutiny if our West Tigers perform dismally, after all it was his recommendations that got Potter ousted…what's good for one is good for the other 😛ray:

Sad to see Mick go as he seems an honourable guy but the change had to be made.

I think who becomes coach will depend on who takes the football manager role.

However I would like to see Nathan Brown or Jason Taylor come in

I would like to see Brown with Trent Barrett as his assistant and hold onto Kidwell

I don't think Farah would be happy if God himself was coach . All the best Mick in your future endeavours , you can hold your head high … And maybe one day you can come back and coach again once Farah hangs up his ego .
What a shit outfit Wests Tigers has become !

I am a little confused with Mayer's statement and the duties of the soon to be GM Football Operations. I do not have the job specification that was advertised for the position, but it would seem to me that if that position was not filled how could they advertise for a new head coach?
Thanks to Mick Potter for his effort throughout his tenure, handled himself admirably. Personally I think by retiring him will allow him to keep his sanity. As for the rest, the loonies that are/were running the asylum, an old saying that is so true, "Everything you do comes back on you!"

What a load of BS this statement is" "**Mick Potter had been given three opportunities over the past six weeks to address the Board** and present his vision and plan for Wests Tigers going forward. **Taking this into account, the Wests Tigers Board and management agree that a fresh approach is needed"…**
The Board has been in place for less than 2 weeks....why would Potter address an outgoing Board who would not be making the decision on his future!!.....They way Mayer wrote that statement implies Potter had the opportunity to address the Board but didn't take it up...therefore sealed his own fate.....what a load of BS from Mayer!...and the new Board as they presumably sanctioned this release....

Unfortunate for Mick, but in my opinion, to have any level of coaching success in the NRL this will be the best decision for his long term career. Currently he enjoys a level of support and sympathy from the fans and the media, and it would only take a couple of early bad losses next year, which is highly possible, and his head would have been on the chopping block again,. He leaves with dignity, still a bit of an unknown quantity and hopefully will get a chance somewhere else in the NRL. Not sure any experienced coach with any level of reputation will take this job on without a hefty pay cheque - have a feeling a rookie coach is our only option. Massive challenge - and best of luck to whoever has the courage to take it on - that in itself will say a lot about the person. I will be cheering for whoever it is.

When does Robbie select the new coach?

Give it a break!!!!!
A new start with a new board and a new coach is what was needed.
Are we going to have put up with the same old garbage on here all over again for the next few seasons . There's just the odd chance that the board will select the new coach on the recommendation of Mayer, that's what really scares me. Then we really will have something to whinge about

AAh Robbie welcome back. The only time you comment on our forum is in your defence.Whilst getting tiresome your "lone wolf" antics are one your family members but not many else would be very proud of.

Surely Mayer must fall by the same sword. How in the hell can he survive???

Anyway I am sure they will be a job for Mick in the NRL in some capacity, he proved time and time again during his time with us that he was a person of integrity and strong character, and people like that are hard to find in the NRL.

I would love to see him get a gig at another club and be given a real chance at success and not have to operate blind folded and one hand tired behind his back

Look I really like Potter as a bloke. He has held himself so well considering all the BS he has had along the way.

Was he the best guy for the job though? I don't know. I really don't believe we saw the best out of him purely due to the injuries he's had to deal with for the last two seasons, let alone the off-field nonsense. When we could get a top squad on the park we looked the goods.

Did he deserve another contract? Yeah I reckon he did.

The reason purely being because I believe there are so many other people who deserve to go before him. Yeah, I realise were discussing the head coach, but maybe if he had some competent professionals surrounding him he would've been more successful.

Kidwell - our defence coach, where was our defence this year?

Payten - there for a giggle with his old mates?

Mayer - started strongly in the role but has proved he is just a tactical manipulator who plays on twitter and hides when the going gets tough.

Our strength & conditioning/rehab team - enough said. Sack the lot, Skando with his little Tafe certificate. Screw this jobs for the boys rubbish.

Our board - a weatherman, an Olympic swimmer, and some other knobs with too much pride of former clubs to look to the future.

Even our membership team sucks.

I just hope that with Mick gone there is many more to follow, he didn't deserve this crap. But my hat goes off to you mate, you handled it like a true professional, pity you just weren't surround by any others.

Goodnight sweet prince :frowning:

Really hope it isn't Parish, the guy looks like a nut job. Griffin or Taylor i'd be fine with.
