Veteran prop Ray Cashmere has signed a one-year deal with the Wests Tigers after being granted a formal release by the Illawarra Cutters today.
Cashmere was approached by the Tigers last week in a bid to shore up their depleted forward ranks, but was initially denied a release by the Cutters.
Cashmere had been told he would have to see out the end of his one-year contract with the Dragons’ feeder club side, but he was granted a full release this afternoon.
Cashmere will train with the Wests Tigers first grade squad from next week, and isn’t expected to play in the side’s clash with Brisbane tomorrow night.

I welcome the (re) signing of Razor. He has everything to prove and the WTers have little to nothing to lose. Hopefully he has a lot to offer.
BTW didn't Cashmere play for the Wests Magpies in 1999? If so, doesn't he now become the only pre-2000 Magpie playing for the Wests Tigers?

DEPARTING Cowboy Ray Cashmere has declared he will be no `Aussie flop' when he joins Salford in the UK Super League.
After three seasons with North Queensland, the rangy prop leaves Townsville tomorrow for Sydney before he, wife Sarah and son Charles head to England early next month.
It will be with a mixture excitement and sorrow that Cashmere ends his stint at the Cowboys, which took him from fringe first-grade player to NRL cult status.
The 28-year-old said he owed North Queensland plenty in his rise to prominence but with a short time left in his career, said he needed to cash in while he could.
Salford, who will join an extended Super League in 2009, gave Cashmere that chance, signing him to a three-year deal in July.
"I'm 29 next year so we're just trying to make the most out of it," he said.
"If I was 21 or 22 now then I would stay put for a few years and try and get 100 or more NRL games but, at this stage, I could only have two or three years left in me.
"I'm just trying to set myself up as best as I can to ensure quality of life post football."
But Cashmere said his decision to join the Reds, along with another departing Cowboy Mark Henry, was not all about the money.
The Macarthur Saints junior was well aware of the pressures placed on Australians in the English game and he has vowed he won't fade out without a whimper.
"I'm a competitive person and I have pride in my performance, so I'll be looking to hold a starting spot over there and just provide a good service to the team," Cashmere said.
"I don't want to be the Aussie bloke they brought over and didn't deliver, I want to try and make a name for myself over there and enjoy my time by playing good football. I won't be resting on my laurels, I still want to make an impact over there."
Before joining the Cowboys, Cashmere had played just four NRL games across seven season with two clubs – Western Suburbs and the Wests Tigers.
There were even times when he considered throwing the towel in.
But a chance sighting by former coach Graham Murray of Cashmere in action for the Western Suburbs Magpies' reserve-grade team in 2005, made him glad he didn't.
"A couple of months (after Murray saw me play) I had an interview, so I really appreciate what Muzz did for me," he said.
He will head to England with 58 first-grade games under his belt and a 2008 call-up for the City Origin team – a moment he regarded among the highlights of his career.
Cashmere's rangy physique, fearless ball running and unquestionable work ethic made him a crowd favourite both with North Queensland fans and rivals alike.
"If you had asked me four years ago if I would play 50 NRL games, back then I would have told you `no', so I'm pretty pleased how it worked out," Cashmere said.
"So I appreciate the opportunity the Cowboys gave me to make a good life for me and my family, because without this I probably would have been battling my whole life."
