Rd 10 - WestsTigers v Knights

I must have reached a new milestone as a fan of this club.
I read the team sheet and chuckled to myself.
No sense of anticipation, excitement, concern or stress.

The competition really is starved of quality halves. Can't see this changing anytime soon with with very few good prospects coming through. Penrith and Melbourne set for years of domination.

Interesting, I think it was Phil Gould who commented on this. Apparently it's something that begins in the juniors - with the smaller, more nimble players often making up the halves positions. Once they get a little older, a lot of them are monstered by some of the kids developing in size more quickly, and they often give up the game. Feasible judgement and I'm sure a situation he would see happen many times in his line of work.

I like Douehi at centre✅

I'd like it too if we had the players to get the ball out to our centres.

Also his kicking has actually been very hand for us. Funny one week Tamou is saying its Douehi's team and the next he's pushed out to centre. Is it Brooks' team again?

Literally do or die for Brooks.

It's been do it die for Brooks for two seasons now. Guy is dead. Only a dead man walking coach keeping him on life support.

**Doueihi tries his guts out and almost drags us back in Sunday's game**, meanwhile brooks and Mbye were rubbish and brooks keeps his spot, Mbye gets essentially promoted and Doueihi shifted form his preferred position

That'll really encourage the team ?

That’s all well and good but we were down 18-0 in the first 15 mins last game

I hope we practice tackling this week because it sure as hell doesn’t look like we did any practice in the off season.

Doueihi still played well, a lot better than Mbye and brooks that's for sure. Shifting him to centre has no purpose.

You didn’t read my post did you ?
We’re also trying to offload mbye ..
No point hiding him in the garage like a garage queen .
We need to show he’s the universal soldier of footy to potential suitors.

Winning games is more important...

Not at this stage ..
We ain’t making the 8

There's 15 more games of footy and we are two wins out of the 8. Not sure we should be intentionally tanking games yet - loser mentality as per usual at this club

You’re kidding yourself if you think we’ll be playing semis ..
A team full of rookies and washed up plodders and nuffies .

That is literally what Madden does. He's just a distributor.

What he is:

* Good both ways passer, right to left cut out, picks the right pass often

* Decent short kicking game

* Good decision maker

* Good support player

* Quite quick for a half

* Okay defender for his size/age

What he isn't:

* Damaging runner

* Grubby/niggly

* Big boot

* Flashy

Where he differs from Brooks is he's a less incisive runner, a bit slower, but he appears to my eye at least to just take better options. He picks better passes and better kicks. He's better on the last. He's a better game manager.

Edit:

I would add that he will get more value out of our wide men than Brooks and Douehi. Brooks and Douehi don't use their edge men well and prefer to either run it themselves or hit the short player. With Madden in the team Kiah Cooper on the wing has 9 tries in NSW cup and he's an average winger. He will give the centres and wingers better ball.

If that’s the case we should be giving our youth as much game time as possible. Play Madden in the halves with AD, keep Stef in the side. But instead he keeps Brooks, Tamou, Mbye and all the other plodders. He said in the press conference the senior players were the issue, but he sacked none of them. Madge is all fart and no poo. Absolutely no idea and a complete myth.

I don’t hate the side,

Cini had an absolute shocker, I get he is a rookie and a bit of a fan favourite but come on... Players need to own their performance. He needs to be sent back to gain some confidence in reserve grade. What does naming him on an extended bench achieve?

AD to centre - let’s be honest, since the start of the season we have used half a dozen different combos and it has bled points each year. AD played well in the centre’s last year.

I think halves will be Madden / Brooks with Mbye at 14. Naming a debutant on the bench then have him start is a typical move.

Madden has been playing well and is deserving of a call up.

Realistically brooks can’t play centre Madge would rather have Brooks / madden and a proven centre in AD then AD /madden halves and have to find an unknown debutant in the centres. (Or Mbye back in there and an debutant 14 / no utility back up)

Even if we don't shouldn't we play out youngsters and try to build combinations for the future? I sincerely doubt Mbye plays so well that teams come begging for him. We're also showing all our players that losing is fine. Great club!

Agree

It’s the easiest way to blood madden without too much disruption

If / when madden finds his feet in grade very likely it’ll be 7. Madden 6. Doueihi

AD to centre isn’t that bad . We can still utilise his kicking game , or move him to 13 , when Mbye comes on . AD a has been stifling his outside men , but he’s been dynamic with the ball in hand , so it’s a hard one . Maybe Madge just wants jock to shuffle it on , give early ball and control the game .

One things for sure , if madden kills it , then Luke might be wearing a Titans jersey next year .

AD kicking game can’t be used often.
He would be out of position if it was.
I do think he would be a better center than 5/8th as it suits more a running style. But why Jock on the bench what a dumb dumb selection.

I noticed when guys debut , it’s late changes like sudden Pec injuries , or late swaps from 19th man etc. maybe it’s to take the heat off the kid while we all scream how much of a numpty Madge is for putting Mbye in at 6

we have Doueihi (when he moves back to 6), Laurie and Simpkin to do the running for him. the bloke modelled his game on Cooper Cronk from a young age. that's what we need. someone to steady the ship, play within the structure and let the players with flair around him do their thing.
