Referees were shocking, penalty count was 14-7 and here are some stupid rulings that would of allowed us to win.

Pettybourne Try was a Try
Storm Try before halftime clearly no evidence shown that it was scored.

This makes the score 20-18 and the game would of been in anyones hands, had Anasta got the kick we would of had a draw or something close.

The reults of close matches like last nights are decided by referees. To say that these referees are very fickle more often than not is an understement.

Jason Robinson - Last nights refereeing performance is exactly why I tell my kids to say 'NO' to drugs.

Once Vave's try was given the big T on the ground, there was nothing in the footage to indisputably deny it. The irony is not lost on me that their Video Ref call was given a try on the ground and ours was given no-try.

If we have reintroduced common sense into the obstruction rule, why can we not have common sense in the "driver". There is no way in Hell that BMM impeded a defender despite placing a hand on him for a moment. This should have been overturned (or given benefit of the doubt by the ground official as was the case with Vave).

14 penalties! Are we really that ill-disciplined? A guy at work almost choked on his coffee when I told him that we were the most penalised team in the comp even before that game. We are not one of the teams constantly trying to bend the rules to our advantage, so we do we cop it so badly? I've often wondered if it was because refs don't fear Sheens/Potter like the do Hasler/Bellamy who are not afraid to give them a spray after the game.

The humorous part, Bellamy thinks we should have been penalised more!

The majority of last nights game was played at a semi final intensity. Had that been a semi final game would it of been refereed the same way? If the players can turn on a performance like that, then surely the officials can too.

We were talking on here last week about the fact that Melbourne are the games greatest innovators when it comes to bending the rules to gain advantage. My position was that bellamy is some kind of genious for consistently orchastrating these plays as he knows the officialdom is so useless it takes them weeks to work our what he is doing.

My problem with this is that the Storm are PURPOSELY bending the rules to gain advantage. Last night we were accused of this and it just isnt true. So if they can see a team like ours why cant they see a team who is doing this for real?

That was a good hard game of footy last night and I can gaurantee you the Storm boys would have been sore this morning. The refs ruined it with ludicrous penalties and ridiculous calls on the tries. The Storms first half try was simply not one. Pettybournes try was simply a legal try. That makes the game 12-0\. Yeah sure Benji's try was off a forward pass and they got that wrong as well but potentially we could have led 18-0\. That changes the whole dynamic of that game and Melbourne would have had to resort to the hail mary's to get back into it. Which would have upped their error rate.

I dont blame lack of fitness for that loss. I dont think we havent worked hard enough at training or pre season as others do. Melbourne were gifted their roll-on's through back to back to back penalties…it happened three times. No side is fit enough to withstand that when 3 blokes are on debut, another couple have played less than 5 games, our starting prop and blinding fast winger is injured and our attacking weapon is on one leg.

Melbourne were good last night, no doubt, but they were also lucky.

The one thing that will be interesting will be the SOO series

Will we see 21 penalties in a SOO game , probably not

It was obviously a ploy by the Tigers to try and stretch the ruck rules in their own red zone to the limit and when you do that away from home you run the risk of being penalized off the park

You know what though… I'm glad they had a crack at it. The Storm I feel were shellshocked when they turned up with the intensity in defence. Our team is renowned for being lightweight and easily out muscled however last night I think we bullied the premiers for the best part of an hour before the refs decided to start penalising.

It was infuriating to see Storm players laying down in the PTB area, hands on the ball and holding onto the player and getting away almost scot-free, but these blokes have it nailed down to an art, and it always favours them with the referees. We didn't take the points, but I certainly think we earned our opponents respect.

Yeah they did mate.

I would have liked to have seen some interviews with their forwards post game. It certainly would have surprised them to have 3 lunatics in mowhawks belting into them and then have a couple of kids debuting off the bench who did the same thing.
