Richard Coorey - get this guy a goer

A lot of punters over this one, don't normally see this level of interest in the forum from Ron Massey players.

Why has he not cracked it for NYC if he's just on 20? Late bloomer or something else? No offence to the guy, I'm always dubious of highlight reels… selective editing, as they say.

I have been spewing about this for years. I've known his old man since I was kid. The young fella is a Balmain junior, is a life member of his junior club and got senior Balmain ditsrict player of the year when he was 16\. I believe he was the best forward to come out of balmain at that time he was put into the SG Ball squad and I even went down to watch his pre season games. He was fantastic but after someone at the club who has sincve been sacked realised he was Arties son. they gave him the flick. Since then hes played for Lebanon at an international level and helped them qualify for the 2017 world cup. Canterbury picked him up for NSW Cup and he's only 20\. Penrith were after him as wellbut he is now at canterbury for a year. I wanted this kid to be a tiger more than anyone else. We need big young solid props. Someone has to get onto this for the next time hes off contract for GOds sake.

Which club at balmain did he play for?

Dundas Shamrocks from 5s to 15s and then 16s and 17s at Enfield Feds.Someone has to send this video thru to the football club. Could be good chance to pinch a quality player before he hits the scene elsewhere.

Oh yeah wasnt his dad the pres?
Khoury.

He isn't the next big thing but he has size, power, big minutes and a great offload. We could do worse then take a gamble on him. It's not like we'd have to break the bank.

We have players who offer less on more money at our club already. Worth a crack but highly unlikely IMO.

Tweeting it at whoever is our state cup coach would be my play.

Cannot some one actual commit to do it as I would be beginning from scratch in trying to find these guys? Thanks. They can at least check him over.

Have to agree. Looks like a winner, has size and seems to always want to offload. Looks totally comfortable with the ball in his hands. A WT jersey would suit him.

McDonnell will be all over it like an ompa lumpa on chocolate…

Hope we can get this done.

I asked about the young fella this morning and this is what I got…

- The 20's coach at the time wanted nothing to do with the Directors son and even though recruitment actually liked what he had to offer, he didn't make the final cut from the coach because "hes Arthurs son". We did the same thing to him here for SG ball and when we pissed him off he wentto go to another club and the release didnt go through in time so when Norths picked him up they couldnt even use him. I also had pointed outto me that the coach had a horrible 2014 but still picked the exact 20s team for 2015 which left no room for new blood and had similar poor results so was axed at the end of last year
- 2015 he played a few games in shield where he was told he was too good for and he then dominated Ron Massey Cup the first year out of regular u19s district football. Apparently his old man said he has another 20 minutes or more of those same highlights but it got to 7 minutes and they didntwant to make it too long.
- That same year he was called up to play for his National side twice before going to South Africa on tour at the age of 20 to help his homeland secure a spot in the world cup and they did. Not long after, his video came out and Panthers were interested, but once the Dogs found out they snared and signed him quick smart, word is that itwas supposed to be train and trial but once Des saw his video he made them contract him on the spot.

Its only a year contract to. The only thing i forgot to find out was who his manager is so someone can forward details to the club to get in contact. If he only signed for a year does that mean he can sign for the following year now? Or is there a date we have to wait for to approach?

Although the footage looks good.

It is worth noting that very few (virtually none) players make it to NRL via Massey Cup (Metro cup in all its guises) unless they were already in the system.

The last players I know of that went onto careers this way were Ben Galea and Andrew Ryan, and Andrew Ryan was in SG Ball squads previously.

The development missed from not being in these squads is hard to catch up

All these clubs not playing a kid because of his dad? What is he some super, egotistical, obsessive monster that no-one wants to deal with?

But yes we could sign him for 2017 right now if we wanted to. If we did they might even release him.

And now that i think abut it i do recall his name being thrown around in Balmain juniors a while back. Why not give him a crack?

In reply to some of the posts about his jumper number, I remember when I was his age 18 - 20 that I had to year jumpers without numbers as all the starting line-up jumpers were too small for me, the number on his back has NO importance as to his ability and or starting position, Richard is a very big lad and always seems to manage to get his notorious back-hand flick off-load away even when there are four if not five players trying to stop his forward momentum;
Alas there is no way that this Enfield Federal junior will ever play for the Wests Tigers, as has been stated his family is very closely rooted to the Blue & White team (Bulldogs) unfortunately this means if he plays NRL it will be for the CB Bulldogs, down the track if he is improving at the same rate and we (WESTS TIGERS) get our financial orders in affairs we may be able to0 get him to sign a VERY lucrative deal, but it is going to have to be in the millions over something like five (5) years and by millions I am talking about the amount that Robbie Farah is on now.
So disappointing and he has been working on leg speed and trying to decrease his size so that he will be of benefit to any team who needs a forward or someone who can play in the centres such as happened to us this year when Jason Taylor put Matt lodge in the centres to replace one of the injured centres even when he had one the best defensive centres playing the other side of the second row (Chris Lawrence), by the way they scored three tries down Matt Lodge's side in about 15 minutes. Richard is a big loss to the WESTS TIGERS.

His old man is a very powerful man in the NRL, but even then he has NEVER influenced a decision (as you can see from the Canterbury u20s scenario) but its politics. Its a damn shame becaause he did nothing but perform throughout his whole junior career but he is made to pay becaue people dont like his father. Ive known him for years…you actually cannot get a better guy to talk to. He is a stand up guy which is why i have been mates with him for many years.

If this is raw uncoached talent (which it probably is)…imagine what some bloody good coaching could do for him? For an amount of money that would be nothing, I think its a no brainer.

This could be for a lot of different reasons, change of players around him, the fact that the Bulldogs see him as an opportunity for the future, were they can build a great forward pack around, a completely different scenario, Wests Tigers have a totally different standard of just about everything when it comes to the Rugby League side of things, they can afford to bring their youngsters on at a decent rate whereas Wests Tigers can't;one of the reason we lost Maia (Sorry for the incorrect spelling of this great young players name, but we do have quite a few players with names that are very similar, but only one of them signed with the PANTHERS during 2015 and for seasons to come)for this season and probably forever.

It is a shame but we lost another junior almost identically except this guys father was a Tigers Legend ( young Michell Pearce, son of one of the greatest Tigers ever). so apart from a lot of guess work I would love to see him play against the bigger boys in NYC and then quickly into the NRL if he was capable of the quick time leap.
Good Luck Richard, it's just a shame that you will be playing in BLUE & WHITE rather than GOLD, WHITE & BLACK.

You say that, however if its obvious that he has no clear path to first grade at the dogs due to an abundance of other top talent in the position then he would certainly consider his options.

It's his career and livelihood after-all! No player would say if i can't play for my favourite team then i won't play for any other club and will effectively retire! If given the security of a contract with the opportunities/finances which is isn't otherwise available to him, i'm sure he'd certainly consider approaches from any other club in the comp.

For this season though he would stay at his favourite team and give his all in hopes of securing his future with them. After that he either re-signs or it's open season.

Im with you. I bet he wouldn't mind playing with us because he was pretty much there before already dont u think? Can someone at least send the vid to recruitment to take a look at?

I have it on good information that he is well and truly already been given a whole new set of training schedules, the BULLDOGS don't waste their time on NO-HOPERS and certainly don't put you in the realm of having a specialized training regime set up for you, without you having the natural talent and as for being in NYC or NRL they aren't going to put him in a position that he is going to do himself major injuries because he hasn't been trained coached correctly to suit his needs.

Young Richard has been a late bloomer and has only started to make the commitment to Rugby League that is required if you are to go on to play NRL and then Representative Rugby league. I am 99.9% sure that barring injuries of course we will be hearing a lot about young Richard in the next year or maximum two.

Agree that given the current Bulldogs NRL pack has an abundance of talent I'm sure Richard like Taupau before him and many other players over the years will seek better opportunities at rival NRL clubs. So Richard will either have to bide his time with the Dogs or sound out other NRL teams for a shot at playing in the NRL on a regular basis. Also on another note I don't believe Lodge was put into the centres but it was Lovett against Penrith with Whare carving him up.
