Robbie Farah..Discussion Thread.....

Had to happen for the benefit of the club going into the future. No doubt he's been a great servant of the club but you can clearly see his heart is not in it anymore!!!

This really sends a good message to the rest of the player's. That the club is finally in charge not vice versa.
Everyone should be on notice !!! (expect for Teddy )

I'm surprised that people aren't reacting with more sentimental affection. Regardless of how you perceive his last year he has been a consistent and loyal performer for the club since his debut, and I will be sad to see the first genuine Wests Tigers club legend go. I hope he's successful and happy in whatever path he follows from now on.

That's life mate. Don't expect it always to be fair and it won't let U down

Really can't agree with this, the bloke played his guts out for us. If the tigers want to do this then Taylor should go as well.

Moltzen's tweet says it all - he was pushed and I don't think he is happy. Doubt anyone in the playing group is happy to be honest.

Who wants to play for a club that shows no loyalty to its players, let alone club legends and life time members.

We could cop a bashing by the warriors on Sunday..

He also went on to take a cheap shot at the club in regards to their loyalty, or lack thereof. Forgetting the fact they acted unethically to pull him out of a contract he signed with another club 4 yrs ago, not to mention keeping him on their books for the last 3 yrs when he hadn't even played a game.

When Go and Taylor went crying to press recently about their salary cap issues they set this up perfectly.

Im fairly confident this has been the plan all along. Possibly why Cherrington was brought forward. We all thought they were talking about Lawrence, Galloway etc but looking back no doubt this was the situation they were trying to defuse.

While i dont mind the decision i do feel conned, its a very different feeling supporting a club run by businessmen.

If Taylor names Woods as the 2016 captain that might just do me.

Sentimentality doesn't win premierships. If we can make 2 or 3 massive signings going into 2017 off the back of money left over from guys like Farah, Lawrence and Galloway, i'm all for it. I know it sounds like the old cliche of more waiting, but if marquee signings, or at least being in the running for marquee signings is what the end result is here, then i'm all for it. Farah is not going to make us a better side, so why not save the money, take our lumps for another yr, and try and gear up for a massive 2017 and beyond?

Not being sentimental. Sure he hasnt been at his best this year, but he is still a match winner. When Benji used to go missing, who would step up to the plate every week? Robbie would.

Our young halves need his steady and calming influence more than ever on the field. This club is going downhill fast

Benji left 2 yrs ago. Farah was the backbone of this side from 06-09 yes, but that period has been over for 6 yrs. When was the last time he won us a game like you have described? As someone else said, he's just a defensive machine these days, and those are a dime a dozen.

Under Jason Taylor's gameplans he has become a defensive machine. Taylor has taken away Robbie's flair and creativity which is what made him the best hooker in the comp.

Rubbish..he was doing the same back end of last year…. 50 tackles per gAme and that's it.... Anyone old do that

It's concerning knowing we will have a spine with an average age of 20/21 years old. Even in 2005 we had an older Prince and Hodgson. I think there needs to be experience in the spine.

Some of you are talking about players as if they are simply commodities. The effect on morale by this decision will do more damage than any other decision made to date. I expect clubs to start approaching Woodsie, Tapau, Tedesco, and any of our other regular first graders - and we all know a contract these days means nothing. The only reason that we still have Tedesco is because of Robbie. Free up more money –- what player is going to want to sign with West Tigers when it is well documented that we are broke, and we are running last. The Captain is gone watch the troops jump with him. Dark days ahead.

I support the decision for a whole lot of reasons which includes financial relief, club chemistry and opportunity for the youth of the club. He has been an absolute champion for the Tigers for a long time and deserves acknowledgement for that but the time is right for him and the club.

$1,000,000 a season for 2 years?

Who do we blame for that? Robbie must have known that in itself would push the club into a dark hole for at at least those 2 years. A $7m salary cap with one player taking up $1M a season? It was always going to end poorly. Add the rumours of Lawrence's heavily back-ended deal and now I know how our cap is a mess.

I'm gobsmacked. Is it his manager's fault? The CEO that signed off on that should go … Oh wait.

Today's shock has all the hallmark of Phil Moss.

I am now holding my breath about Tedesco seeing that Robbie played a big part in him staying.

Anyway, it's done. All the best Robbie, wherever you end up.

Yeah, i wouldn't wanna see that. Great player, but i don't think he has the personalty to be the leader.

I think if Farah somehow stays on, he has to relinquish the captaincy though.

We are coming last and have been a very average side for a few years now,the club is desperate to have the cap space to be able to enter the player market, so today's decision is no surprise.

Okay it is not the way we would like to see Robbie finish his career at the Tigers, but we are at the bottom of the heap and need to make some big and brave calls. Time will tell if this call has a long term negative effect on the playing group, but we can not have a million bucks tied up in a player who career is in decline.

Wow first Benji and now Robbie….I wish they both retired at the Tigers :frowning: What can ya do, thats life... Good luck to Robbie I wish him the best and I for one will never boo him just like i will never boo Benji.

NRL clubs have known for several weeks now that Farah could become a free agent for 2016.
>
Friends have claimed Farah has feared being pushed out of the club for the past few months.

Probably explains his from somewhat

Not sure how I feel tbh. Gone are the days of players being able to play at the 1 club.

Seems a shame, but we need the money.

I kinda hope we keep Rowdy though.

Many have been calling for it all year. Best for both parties I feel. His next birthday he will be 32, his body has just been belted too many times over the last decade to keep at the top of his game. His form has been off for 18 months now and he just looks disinterested out there, physically and mentally I think he knew the writing was on the wall for the last few months.

I really wish he goes to England for 3 reasons. Firstly, he would just kill it over there, he could rejuvenate himself, get that Robbie passion back that we all love and turn his last 2 year NRL career here into a potential 5 year career there. Secondly, I would assume an English club will pay more for him as a massive marquee signing for a current SOO player then what an NRL club would pay for him thus less for the TIgers to chip in to make up the balance of his $1mill contract for the next 2 seasons and thirdly, just like watching Benji play against us…...it isnt right. A one man club he should be.

He will go down as a Tigers great, should have won 2 more premiership in 10' or 11' and should have played at least 25 origin games. Stuck behind Buderus for 3 or 4 seasons from 2005/2006-2008 when Robbie was clearly the best hooker in NSW for the best part of those seasons and then again in 2010 and 2011 when he was media robbed of 6 matches by "made for origin' Ennis (although the silver lining of those 2 years was that he could focus 100 percent on the Tigers and we went pretty darn close to the title those years).

Cant wait to see what young Cherry can do for this team.

I read some people comment on how this will make other players nervous about a club legend being forced out. The reality is that 1 player demanding so much money and cripple the opportunity of others is what makes other players nervous and creates tension when the question arises to whether they are worth that much now! Yes he has severed the club well and deserves all the respect for his years of service. But he is 31 and he has nothing more to give. If he does love the club then he will step aside and let it grow in his wake. This is a business after all. We have seen so called loyalty to contracts in the past. A player can turn his back on a club and then we hate them for it but get over it. A club has to make a very tough decision for its future but I won't hate it for that! Things never stay the same for too long in the modern game. Change is inevitable. Enjoy those players while they last at your club.

Goodbye, thank you so very much Robbie and good luck.

In any other era, Robbie would have been a true great of the game but he has always been behind Cam Smith. A bit like Stuart Magill and Warnie.

I think he deserves our respect and appreciation for what he has achieved and how he has carried the club over some very lean years.

I would not be surprised if this wasn't a Phil Moss move given how he cleaned out Penrith. I know Penrith went deep into the semi-finals last year but realistically has it been a success?

I see Micky Gordon, Jennings, Luke Lewis etc all playing well. I wonder where the panthers would be with this guys in their roster?

You only get rid of players if you have someone better coming through and I don't think that is the case internally at the Tigers.
