A very tough and emotive decision, but the right one IMO.
He's nowhere near his $900k pricetag in 2015, and will only decline further in '16 and '17.
We're in desperate need of cap relief, so it's a no brainer to get his contract off the books if at all possible, especially with Cherrington looking like he'll be ready for FG sooner rather than later.
Successful NRL clubs are those that manage their cap the best - we're obviously eons behind in this respect. The sooner we can get rid of these bad contracts the better - especially as the club does seem to be genuine about this ambition for top 4 in 2017.
This will give us some wriggle room for 2016, and ensure we're strong players in the market for 2017.

It is correct that Farah, especially this season, was more passionate playing SOO than for WT.
Also if the rumours are true, he was involved in departure of TS and MP. There are rumours that Farah and Taylor did not start and are not on the same page ATM.
It can be argued that Farah is not worth $ 900k a season, for such a money he must dominate the game like Tedesco, or Thurston at Cowgirls. His effort this season was worth $ 400k max.
If this is correct it is a good move by both sides.
On the other hand, we loose another experienced player, who even if he's not any more at his best, is certainly still one of our best players. Question is also if we have adequate alternative in Cherrington/Little/Halatau, especially in defence.
Anyhow, probably his best move would be to continue his carrier overseas.

I do find it ironic that a significant bunch of forummers run the line "it's business, take the emotion out", but they will jump up and down watching the game this weekend, happy as Larry if we win and very disappointed if we lose.
So watching the team play is an emotional experience, but the makeup of the team is not? You don't care who it is representing us, so long as they are wearing a WT jersey?
I don't like this decision one bit. I understand the explanation, but I don't support it. Farah's had maybe two ordinary half-seasons in 10 years and some supporters are so quick to see the back of him, because he is 31 and we are running last. We have two state-rep players and we are ready to offload one of them because someone decided to pay him a bit too much money a few years ago.
I also fear that this is the action of a new board / coach / GM that wants to sure up it's own position at the expense of a player. Why not get rid of a stalwart if it buys you a few more years in the job?
For all those who are happy that Farah might leave: I hope you are ready for the backlash if Farah comes roaring back into form in another set of NRL colours.

Well if Farah goes, I hope we are buying someone who can tackle, as there will be a shortfall of 35 to 40 tackles a week that no one presently at the club will be interested in taking over. This club is so dumb,
We will still be paying a big part of his contract, and we will be losing one of the few experienced quality players that we have.
We've already thrown our two halves to the wolves by not having any experience with them. And maybe stuffed up Brooks' and Moses chances of even remaining in first grade. And now I suppose we are going to add another inexperienced kid who also can't tackle , to bring our total of targets to three . Cherrington has at least another year ( or more )to go before he's ready.
Those who are whinging about Farahs form this year, until Origin he was one of our best players, the injuries that he acquired were in Origin (separated shoulder) and in our (games broken hand) , when , by the way , if our Coach had of carried out his big announcement that no one would be played with injuries. ( ask Nofa and Simona about that too) he wouldn't have ended up with the hand injury that kept him out of so many later games
The timing is typical of this club, stupid, as most teams that could afford him would probably have organised their 2016 teams already.
I hope Farah stays right where he is and tells the club to pay his contract out in full ( as he is entitled to do)

WOW i'm trying to process all this 😱pen_mouth: just read this now .
I have mixed feelings about all this , as much as Farah's best is past him he is the heart and soul of this place and sends the wrong message to other players in the Club that would maybe like to remain Loyal and be a 1 Club player .
What i'm saying is obviously other players will be looking at the situation and thinking to themselves the Club has chewed him up and spitted him out with 2 years still to run .
Farah isn't silly and he will make sure that his Contract money is honoured , our Club will be paying a percentage of his Contract make no mistake about that as no Club will come in and pay the supposedley 1 Million per Season his supposed to be getting…..he would be lucky to be worth $500,000 at the moment.

# The joy and passion he brought to our household and at Stadiums
# The great Love, passion and affection he openly showed towards our Club
# The games he sole handly won for us .
Form wise i think the Club is making the right decision in trying to release Farah to another Club but i just thought i would never see Farah play for another Club.
Now i am starting to understand why his form has been so bad for so long , Maybe he has never gotten over the Tallis and Potter events that happened.
I will put my hand up and admit that i have bagged him at times for the pathetic performances he has shown the last 2 years but we don't always know the ins and outs of what is really going behind closed doors.
There is no winner in all this and can't help to think that despite him being past his best and the Club taking steps to try and purchase key players sonner rather than later , that it is sending the wrong message to other players in our squad who might want to play out there Careers with the Wests Tigers are now thinking no pay cuts to stay loyal to the Wests Tigers.
Anyway enough of my dribble and would like to Thank Robbie Farah for everything that he has done for this Club , you will no doubt go down as a Wests Tigers great .

Only explanation is that somehow it had leaked (Ritchie tweeted about it before the WT statement), so we thought we'd get a statement out ASAP.
He obviously got the tap on the shoulder a while back and has already had the feelers out, but I assume they wouldn't have wanted to announce it until a deal was done (a la Galloway).

The purpose of this is to show everyone in the club who is boss.A clip board and some mumbo jumbo about how losing doesn't mean we aren't improving and meeting our goals - a new coach and a new board, and the players will just fall into line. (More sarcasm)

Farah leaving could see some of these young players express themselves way beyond anything we have seen from them to date. Whilst Farah spoke did the talking with Tedesco, it was the reminder of playing with Brooks and Moses that kept him at the club.
Further, we are not broke. We were a basketcase in 2002 and we managed to sign Prince. It's always darkest before dawn….

It's a good point, but the salary cap is also there to save clubs from themselves. If he was exempt from the salary cap, we could be paying him truckloads with revenue remaining the same. Clubs would very quickly start going backwards, especially those with large junior bases.
