LIVE GAME Round 11 vs. Rabbitohs

Live Game Discussion
Did anyone really think we were a chance today?....to be at 8 behind with 10 to go was a brave effort...Our attack inside the 20 needs alot of work...fix that, it gives the team confidence we can outscore the other team and we win alot more games

I thought we were no chance and we performed better than expectations. The question is how to fix our attack ? Can the coaching staff somehow get the current players to perform ?

Of course we were a chance but never had a shot. After half time we should of come out and started to attack the edges. But nothing.

Good post but I think you are letting the coaching staff off a little bit. They have to get us playing some attacking footy as well.

I think we need some gun halves but we also need players like Bula, To'a, Tupou to develop into consistent quality first graders.

If we don't play some more enterprising footy over the next few weeks then I do think the criticism needs to fall on them again, but I think you're in a tough place if you want to try and make it a gun fight rather than fist fight against Souths when they've got guys like Mitchell and Walker who are both capable of turning nothing into something at any moment.

No excuses not to try and put a show on against the Cowboys at Leichhardt next week.

Daine Laurie celebrating the win with the bunnies.

Classy.
Of course he can be mates with his indigenous buddies, but there is a time and a place for everything.

This guy has absolutely no awareness, he has no idea of timing or what is a good or a bad look.

Unless he turns things around in a big way there is no way in the world that we should even contemplate extending this guys contract.

Whilst i am not happy with the loss, looks like the coaching staff have worked on the players attitude and their defence. Both have improved dramatically. The attack is a work in progress, once Naden returns TT should be dropped and that should improve. Maybe if Stains returns they have try Laurie at 5/8 again in reserves . But having watched the magpies play today he is well off.
Like everyone said we werent expect to win, and the score line does not reflect how they played

No they can’t fix players who are not NRL standard & Wakeham is one such player people on this forum who say he is better than Laurie have no idea. I also blame Sheens for our losses for not picking Laurie over Wakeham at 5/8th & for releasing Hastings to the Knights.

Funny I thought that was a good game of footy. There was not much in it and yet they are the form team of the comp. Hard to be dirty about the result and actually don't think it was a true reflection of difference between the two teams.
I said something similar to our son, that we didn't really look like the team that was coming last, but by the same token Souffs didn't look like the competition favourites either.

But I said that the media critics will be saying that it was a bad game, Souffs had a bad day and then say absolutely nothing about us containing them pretty much for more than 70 minutes of the game.

With 15 minutes to go we were still in the match against the outstanding team in the comp. We're not an embarrassment. Our raw go forward is truly exceptional at times.

But It's really bewildering. You can just tell that the team is trying really hard, and the emotional investment is there, but once we are in attacking situations and in possession the team looks like it has no idea how it's going to score points. Not Brooks. The team.

There is nothing sneaky, or tricky or dangerous about how we play. No steps, no dummies, no mischief, no offloads, no footy. No one is sniffing around our back rowers when they are looking dangerous. We mostly run straight (rather well atm) and try hard not to make any mistakes. Not enough of our outside backs are looking up and thinking "Give me the ball, I'm going to win you this game". Maybe its just down to ability.

It feels like no one within our own team is expecting anything dangerous to happen when we attack. We can't just reach the end of our sets and give it to Brooks against a prepared defence and ask "Have you turned into Andrew Johns yet?". No halfback on this planet would have been decisive for us against the Bunnies tonight. I mean, did any of Souths tries come from what their Halfback did on the 5th tackle? I don't think so.

I don't think its down to who gets picked. Swapping players in or out won't solve this. It's more fundamental than that. We have to want to try and play footy on the front foot. It can't be done because the coach told us to try it.

Anyways, its the best team in the comp and we showed real ticker for most of the match. Just play a bit more footy, a bit more swagger, and lets get past this formulaic stuff. 2 or three little sneaky, or clever moments in this match, or a bit more backing up in support when needed and then those moments will come.

I don't rate Hastings after seeing him play this season but you are right our squad went backwards when we released him for nothing. I don't buy the line Bateman won't play with Hastings or that we swapped Hastings for Klemmer.

I'm not sold on Laurie either. You might be right though in that giving Laurie a game in the halves might improve us. Laurie to me needs to prove himself in reserve grade.

I watched until half time (I had a brew going and had a break during the boil) and the attack inside the 20 is totally non-existent. The next few weeks will determine if the spoon rears it's ugly head again and I'm not confident. No attack = no points = no win it is as simple as that.

We have a good pack but when Klemm and Steph go off we lose punch up the middle
Joffa is weak makes no meters and gets put on his backside at best where he started
Twal is good and Bateman looks our most likely he's getting better each week
Also concerned that we use a bench spot on Simpkin who plays very few minutes
Api can't do 80 mins ? I seem to remember Farah going the full 80
Also how fit is Steph ? Surprised how few mins he does
Probably better Starting with Twal and Steph off bench

It was a great defensive effort. I was very happy with how they played in the first half, minus the lack of attack, but that’s a given.. We just need to create more opportunities in the 20m zone. I think everything else is coming together fairly well.

This issue is that we should be happy bc we weren’t faves

The issue is that we have had the same problems all year

Can’t score when I’m attacking zones

It hasn’t gotten better unless it’s super grind of a game

We created one or two chances today

But I don’t think it would’ve mattered who we played

We can’t score

I don’t know why they don’t play Laurie off the bench as a 14 … if API was on for the whole game when we had good possession in attacking zones maybe we score then too

At least Laurie is a threat

He’s our poor man’s Cody walker

Wakeham and brooks are too similar
