Rumour Barba & Maitua

Never understood the "well as if wouldn't you take Barba/Inglis/Thurston/Scott etc" argument.

Of course, in a perfect world I'd fill the side with marquee players and live happily ever after.

Problem is every signing you make has real world effects on the club. Barba would be terrific sure, but do we need to spend a big part of our cap on a new fullback? Don't we have other areas to worry about first? And what about our future? Who will we lose? What positions are weakened?

Can't imagine the club is making a serious play for him. Although I'm all for Potter and co keeping an eye out for quality.

fwiw, i thought meaney was excellent. i have always thought he is a great fullback, but confess to being super excited by tedesco in the 2 minutes he played in round 1 last year. if that is what teddy is like, then im all for sticking with him in the 1 jersey when able to.
having said that, i like the idea of meaney being our back up plan. keep moltzen away from there, as although not his fault, and although i think he has done alright there, he is not our best option. 3rd in line yes, but i cant see anywhere for him in our strongest lineup.

Signing Barba would be awesome, but this is wests tigers recruitment we are talking about here you all know we will end up with Reni not Barba

I got news today from a good source that we are seriously chasing barba and have a good chance at him, they are making room for izzy. This source was right about lote and ellis so i trust it..

If we get barba I think it's a great move, we look like a basket case on and off the field at the moment to the rugby league competiton and really we are a team with potential at the moment not a good consistent team… A marquee signing like this would put this club back on track

Would prefer Izzy over Barba

I'm betting we won't sign either

You are easily one of the most hypocritical posters on this forum Ck. You'll defend your golden boy against every single negative comment posted, yet won't give a young kid with a great future ahead of him any credit whatsoever even if your life depended on it.

Its funny, you couldn't cop Lui either. And what one thing do Lui and Tedesco have in common? they both in the past have been in a positional duel with your golden boy. Its no surprise you talk/talked them down at every opportunity

just wait until next year if we are unfortunate enough to still have moltzen here.
oohh he needs time,he is coming back from a serious injury.
funny the same allowance hasn't been made for teddy.

now reni is an interesting one.

4 try assists,4 100 plus yard games,3 line breaks,3 line break assists,18 tackle busts.
i've got a feeling he isn't as bad as alot make out.
now he does give away an awful lot of penalties.being on a bad team can put you in some dodgy situations that force you to give up penalties or he simply lacks discipline.

when i looked at those stats i thought is that better than all the players that have played backrow for the tigers combined.
1 try assist,4 100 yard games,3 line breaks,0 line break assists,36 tackle busts.
for these combined stats i included the full bench as well which includes props.i didn't include woods stats when he was on the bench for the first 2 games.

shows how crap our backrow is when a player that people want nothing to do with can show more impact than all of them combined.

looking at that,i think it is worth putting on the game tape and seeing what the reality is of his performance this year.

It's not hard to see why we are near the bottom. People refusing Barba, is this a joke? But then again this forum is notorious for these things.

No one wanted Carney
No one wanted Dugan
No one wanted Michael Gordon
No one wanted Gagai
No one wanted Willie Mason

Jeez, for all the crap our recruitment gets, some fans here aren't much better. I'm sick of being the good guys. Get some great talent out there.

Spot on. People refusing Barba makes a mockery of these forums. It's times like these that I hope other teams fans don't see what we think because they would laugh their heads off. And for who? Tedesco. I like him and yes he has great potential but he would have to be the next Billy Slater for me to even entertain rejecting Barba for him.
I don't mind a punt but flat out refusing Barba?! And out of choice?

I love all the banter boys but I have to say that this takes the cake as just about the dumbest thing I have ever read on here.

This is exactly the way to look at the situation.

I'm not big on signing new players. Blair has killed us. Ellis turned our team around. The thing is if you get a big dollar signing wrong it has a massive impact.

I think we need one quality backrower and maybe some depth. Spending big dollars on any other position to me isn't the right way to improve our team.

If we sign Barba I am hoping he will play 5/8 and Brooks 1/2\. This will leave the backline how it is supposed to be, Teddy FB, Koro and Nofo wings.

100% correct… Gotta love the rumours ... Gets people excited like no tomorrow..
Already filled 4 pages of this thread and its far from ever happening..

We have a gun fullback in Teddy coming through and we hear rumours about signing Barba.. i say that talk is rubbish..
Last year i would have fallen for that

You want to move one of the gun fullbacks in the comp to 5/8 and pair him with someone with no 1st grade experience? That is ridiculous.

Teddy is a good player, but I've seen nothing to indicate he will ever be as good as Barba. In the incredibly unlikely event we got Barba, he'd be playing fullback. We'd also need to buy some half decent forwards too, because having Barba behind a weak forward back is a waste.

Everyone should remember how crap Barba used to be at fullback. He couldn't take a bomb, had terrible positioning. He had a breakout year last year and is only just finding that form now this season. I'm not doubting his talent, he's bloody good, but that form would have warranted a massive increase in his pay packet.

Now Tedesco is nowhere near as good as Barba right now but many good judges have rated him very highly and even compared him to a young Slater. I think this is a perfect example of when a club should stick solid with their youth. Remember too, Teddy hasn't even played with a full strength team yet. So I don't think we've seen even close to his best this year and the kid is already lightyears ahead of Moltzen and we've been putting up with him for years.

I agree with this post "tigertye". If we don't give these young blokes a chance, they will go somewhere else and achieve great things for another club. We have to stick with these guys and give them time to develop for us

I don't know what you are all talking about, I think we have done pretty well this season, considering all the disruptions we have had to our playing roster  Lets hang in there I believe these players are improving each week

Do you EVER read comments before you go off on your half baked rants?
I'm sorry if , in my opinion , I think Barba is at present a far superior player.
I've , on more than one occassion , said I hope Tedesco gets his mojo going and shows us all what the talk is about.
He does show lots of potential.
He has shown great courage and is wonderful at looking to support other players.
He has also dropped a few sitters and missed a lot of tackles that have led to tries.
If you really think Tedesco has lived up to all the hype surrounding him then you're deluded.
As for your other ridiculous effort to bring Moltzen into the debate again…. wake up.
Lui's defence was not up to first grade standard (and still isn't) .
This thread is about the possibility of Barba being here - and ,although I seriously don't think it will happen , we would be crazy not to take him.

Interesting, but I would think a half back would be more important.

In saying that, Barba is very good, however the issues that are going on at the Dogs….......wouldn't he just be bringing them to us?

And a big no to Reni, that would certainly be a waste of money

Yes Teddy is still raw, he has plenty of time to get it together, its not like we'd get rid of him. On the other Barba would be a good signing because it will put bums on seats. I have a funny feeling, if it happens, Barba arrives Benji exits.
