Rumour: Tigers sign Tim Mannah for rest of 2019

@airbus Don't edit my comments @Spartan117 It's about money. The Eels won't pay the difference between his current salary and the max the Tigers have left in the cap. Unless their position changes and they pay some freight, the deal is not happening.

@gallagher Anyone know when this became a thing btw? Link to any info about it?

Find it such a strange rule.

So has he signed or not?

This looks like a white flag move to me, and if that's the case surely we have some juniors coming through that can get some experience??

Surely this is a Gee up now.... this has been going on all week and yet nothing still... Its like the players / player managers just use us to lift price up or assist in them getting there desired outcome. If this ones falls over on a player that cannot even get back into 1st grade we are going to look stupid.

@helmesy

Maybe Tim has to take a hit to his hip pocket and forgo some or all of the difference in the contract money given that his prime motive is to play more NRL games to secure a deal in the English Super League. From memory didn't Woods take a reduced contract payment when he signed with the Sharks as the Bulldogs & Sharks couldn't come to an agreed contract payout figure.

Why is it that all of a sudden it's said that players need to have played X amount of games to qualify for Super League? Where has this come from? Has the place been inundated with bog average footballers that couldn't make the nrl here?

@2005magic Is it even a rule or is it more of a 'vibe' thing? i.e. someone playing NRL regularly is more attractive to a Super League club than someone who can't get a run in first grade?

Paul Kent said it on NRL 360 - $100k for an NRL ready prop with plenty of experience vs promoting a young guy into the top 30 that won't get game time because of inexperience. Astute signing in my opinion

@Tiger_Steve just my opinion - but how’s it changed since the inception of the business that’s actually known as NRL. Never seen much loyalty to be fair, Slater/Lawrence - even on the last example, Petero signed at Riff. How would u change it? C. Smith is happy to take his testimonial and get out of here - what is stopping it from simply destroying us?

No he didn't, he finished at the Broncos.

Is definitely a huge problem. How can a one club man or the development club that has been trying day in, day out to get this over the line be held to ransom by outdated and often disrespected rules of a contract - which, anywhere else is totally binding.

@Cultured_Bogan Point still stands I suppose but further to that which one club player has ever come out afterwards and made a concerted effort to point to that role in their development as a person, both player and member of society, it’s just ludicrous. See article for an example of the hypocrisy and journalists already pot-shotting us for not setting R.F up correctly...
