We are building everything. We need to keep our focus on the Daine Lauries and Harry Grants.
Well one of them is already gone so I don't really rate that strategy
So because you fail at a point in your strategy (can’t sign Harry) you throw the toys out of the cot?
The point I was trying to make is..why go after a $1m established player when we are better suited to a $500k up and comer?
Because the Storm are literally the only club that have ever been able to pull that strategy off. We can't
If we get a 2nd set of books we can compete too. Worth a shot.

Sure thing. Over 1 year? Hell no. Only a handful of players get that, esp with reduced cap post-COVID.
As pointed out we already have a good long-term FB option, what do you do with Papenhuyzen, play him 5/8th?
Also Paps isn't off contract until 2023? Long ways off.
He's one of the best players in the NRL in what universe would he take 550k a year? He's worth every cent of 1.1m. We pay Mbye 900k ffs
Mate salary cap 2021 is $9.9M and you want to spend 11% of that on Ryan Paps who plays in a position we've got covered?
I'm not suggesting he'd ever come for $550K, what I am suggesting is $1.1M would be a farce. What Mbye does or does not earn has nothing to do with it, you don't compare future salaries with the current outgoings of one of your mediocre footballers.
Look at how many players are on 1m+ in the NRL and tell me that 1.1 isn't market value for one of the best players in the entire NRL

Sleeve, when was the last time we signed a player for over $1m? Especially one who has left us because their career was going nowhere? How did we go trying to get fox? These players still carry the psychological scars from their first experience at WT. ? If we offered $1.1m to Paps, he would take less to play at a club where the D line is tighter than a fish’s rs. Our guy is doing 12 tackles per game, Paps is lucky to do one at Storm. His role would be different at WT, and almost guaranteed not to get another Churchill.
I can see the strategy adopted since Madge’s arrival working, but taking time. The club has identified the missing skill sets and is hiring accordingly. Our priority should be team building, not looking for the next Jesus Christ. I see players like BJ and Tamou give up on the team. The old heads are getting paid regardless of their level of discretionary effort. I say keep giving opportunities to players with limited opportunity but who have the skills we’re looking for. We want the Ferrari that doesn’t get driven on Sundays. The challenge for Madge is keeping the Laurie’s up while recruiting more Lauries.

I see where your at 20/40, but outside of Laurie, we would be lucky for anyone in our backline being offered a position in any other side. We seriously lack strike in the backs, and there is little quality on the market. I thought the same as you, but now think that stratagey would take to long. One or two buys like Paps would lift the side. BUT NOT PLAYERS AT CAREERS END.

On or off the field we need a circuit breaker signing. A drawcard.

Throw everything we have at him if he's able to negotiate??
