Sam Mclntyre

Can only recall seeing him play twice in the lower grades, as a second rower and at centre in 2018, being a lot lighter player that could tackle and not showing anything to get overly enthused about. Like others though, seeing a much thicker version if him on his top grade debut, it was a different story, immediately thinking that this fella looks the goods and the ensuing weeks have certainly confirmed that he belongs there.

He had a largish frame for a kid when we first got him down from Newcastle. He was a centre there and immediately we started playing him in the back row. Eventually his worked his way into the middle but his noticeably added bulk to his frame. Can also see a Nathan Brown, Finucane prospect in this kid and being 188 and 108 kg chances are he has the potential to be much more damaging.

I don’t think he’ll ever be a ‘star’ he isn’t that type of player however he is very reliable player who always work his butt off when he’s on the field. Perfect bench forward

You are wrong Josh - he is going to be a lot more than a bench forward.

I think he is going to be (without going overboard and maybe not as good) another Finucane type lock.

Hits hard and often, knows where he is on the field and what is going on, and being a former centre has a good passing game.

Just needs to work on hit ups and keeping the legs pumping, not bad at the moment but he is only 22, will improve immensely.

The sky is the limit for him

Scary he’s only getting 30 odd minutes a game aswell

This is the thing with Madge,he knows how much Sam has improved with limited minutes, because there is no CC this year Madge is developing him slowly so he gets everything right when he is on the field..

The demand in the market place is going up at a sharp rate for Young Sam. Just hope the deal we table is accepted. Every club are on the lookout for a budget to mid range signing who has real potential.

It'd need to be a significant offer from elsewhere for him to move. He's happy at the club and Maguire has rewarded his hard work. Similar to Aloiai's decision to remain with the team.

I have to give credit to Madge for the improvement in some of our young players...
Harry had no real NRL experience coming out of a very strong system, under Madge he is thriving..
Sam was only ever considered a CC player ...how good is he going to be if he continues with us under Madge...
Im only mentioning these 2 young guns for this discussion because Madge copped a fair bit about losing the dressing room, being a hard taskmaster and most of the players couldnt handle his coaching regime..
Its obvious to me that a lot of the squad are bennefitting greatly from Madge and the last 2 games have seen a marked improvement in the teams resilience ...

It's absolute nonsense that stuff reported. A significantly large amount of the group appreciate the tough stuff, and well, it's become quite obvious who doesn't. The training seemed to serve them well last night and for a club with 'culture issues' they performed quite well when they were 20 down.

its great

the forum ruled him out as a plodder before he even debuted

give him a extension

I know a plodder when I see one he is no plodder ..

I was sold the moment he walked off at halftime in the Parra game, his face covered in blood. What a visual.

Not all. He could always find space with the ball and his tackling technique outstanding. If his junior coach is available can we arrange for him to teach some of our other forwards how to tackle?

One thing I noticed about his hit ups is he has good footwork. He tries to find the space between the defenders instead of mindlessly bashing into an opponent's chest.

I have said this before, I think the closest comparison is actually Trent "twinkle toes" Merrin, I think McIntyre is a little stronger defensively and a little less dynamic offensively than Trent was, but he has very good feet close to the line and ball playing ability which allows him to find his front and get a quick ptb.
He will be in the league for 10+ years if he can stay healthy.

It was his dad that taught Sam how to tackle and his grandfather taught his dad the technique!
What I like most about his defence is he always competes and won’t stop till he gets them on there back.
He also has plenty of running meters in him just doesn’t get enough ball, any body notice how many decoy and supports he does?

You seem to have a strong connection to him. Yes he does run alot of decoys and support runs - He will be a great player in the future.

Instant impact when he came on.
He will be huge for us.
A big, athletic and aggressive foward is something we have lacked for years.
How good is it to see a kid get a shot at first grade and absolutely smash it 🔥
